1980 Vw Aircooled German Ambulance on 2040-cars
Austin, Texas, United States
This is a German import from Koblenz that has been in
the USA for a while now. It has European/German specifications. The
previous owner was Chip Lamb It's a 2 liter air-cooled twin Solex pdsit
32-34 motor with a 4 speed and electronic ignition (factory). The
conversion to ambulance was done at the factory. It's NOT aftermarket.
It's all original. It has Dual hi-lo siren horns, Blue Hella
beacon and fog lights. The interior is near perfect and includes lot's
of ambulance only goodies including 2 stretchers, stair chair,
florescent light, gas heater, operational ceiling fan and many other
little goodies. It has a mechanical step that pops out with the sliding
door just like the old ones. I also have all the paperwork from Germany
including manuals and some from the USA including the import paperwork.
I did a compression test on her and found that a cylinders are exactly 93lbs. of compression. I've never had a car come in on the same number for all the cylinders. The vehicle has has one re-spray in Germany. It's nice and shiny but you can see where it's seen a little Red Cross winter action. It's runs good and I have had a lot of fun taking the family around Austin in it. There is no or minimal oil usage and it does not smoke at all. The tires are very good and it feels solid. I have personally rebuilt all the brakes with new rubber hoses, shoes, and calipers and a couple hard lines. I don't drive things with old brakes. I also installed professionally rebuilt carbs. The came back from Ace Fuel systems looking brand new. I have also replaced the factory type mechanical fuel pump and the fuel lines/filter. I have also replaced the expensive rubber hot air seal in the engine compartment. It has 7310. miles or 11763 kilometers. I put about 1000 on her just goofing around. The think runs smooth and pulls nicely. Drive it home. Drive it anywhere. BTW, I have replaced the blue beacon on top with a NOS Hella yellow one. It's street legal now anywhere. The blue lens is included. I've also taken the heavy field type stainless operating table off and a skid plate off the bottom. They are also included. By the way, THIS THING IS FUN!!! here is a video! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yNGDWlLTfRY Some folks have also asked for some detailed photos. Here is the link: http://flic.kr/s/aHsjFwozhP |

Next VW GTI to get 10-speed dual-clutch gearbox
Wed, Nov 26 2014Following on Volkswagen's official announcement that it was working on a ten-speed, dual-clutch transmission, Auto Express has it on "good authority" that the new transmission will end up in the next GTI, GTD and Golf R. The brand's current seven-speed will be retained for lesser eight-generation Golfs. While the new gearbox won't be limited to just the higher-end Golf range, the new hatchback, expected in 2017, will be the first to get it, Auto Express reports. The new DSG is the same size as the Volkswagen Group's seven-speed dual-clutch, and will easily fit into VAG's MQB platform, so we should expect it to filter into the rest of the Group's vehicles, much like the seven-speed 'box has. The ten-speed is likely to see applications beyond even the small cars of the MQB platform. The gearbox can handle 405 pound-feet of torque, according to AE, making its application in larger offerings such as the gas-powered MLB cars and crossovers a likelihood. Beyond the new gearbox, Volkswagen is also toying with mild-hybrid tech for the standard Golf and better batteries for the e-Golf. As we said, expect the new Golf to arrive in European markets in 2017, with the current Euro-market Golf getting updated next year. As for the US, we wouldn't be surprised if VW followed the trail blazed by the Mark 7, with a North American arrival for the eight-gem Golf slated for a year or so after sales in Europe begin.
Weekly Recap: Diesel scandal continues to fuel VW's woes
Sat, Oct 3 2015Volkswagen's woes continued this week when it was delisted from the Dow Jones Sustainability Index and stripped of awards. Senators are also lining up to advocate for criminal and civil action against the automaker, and its consumer reputation is in tatters. Put simply, it's been another rough period for VW. Despite this, the company eked out a sales gain of less than one percent in September, though that was well behind the overall market's performance. Sister brand Audi, which sells a diesel A3, was less affected, posting a 16-percent gain in September. Revelations that Volkswagen rigged millions of diesel-powered cars around the world didn't surface until September 18, so the full sales impact of the ongoing scandal won't likely be felt until October. Meanwhile, VW's image continues to take a beating, and an AutoPacific survey found only one in 14 vehicle owners have a positive opinion of the company. Before the scandal broke, three-quarters of respondents had a positive view of VW. The survey also found 64 percent don't trust Volkswagen, though the same number believe other companies are or may also be using cheating devices to pass emissions tests. "The reputation of diesels has been severely damaged, at least for the short term," Ed Kim, AutoPacific's vice president of industry analysis, said in a statement. Despite the lingering malaise, experts believe VW will recover, just as Toyota and General Motors eventually emerged from their own high-profile controversies. "Consumers have proven through numerous recalls that they are resilient and quickly return to their buying habits," Kim said. OTHER NEWS & NOTES Mazda to reveal sports car concept in Tokyo Mazda will bring a curvy sports car concept to the Tokyo Motor Show in October. The automaker is being especially coy with the details, only releasing the dark teaser shot that you see to the right and a cryptic statement that suggests the concept "condense[s] Mazda's entire history of sports-car development into a single model." Immediately, speculation abounded this is an RX-7 and RX-8 successor, though Mazda didn't specify what engine the concept will have. Reportedly, the company is still working on rotary engines. Mazda will have a Cosmo Sport 110S on its stand in Tokyo, which pioneered rotary technology in 1967. Read into that what you will. Volkswagen Group previews its wares on eve of Geneva show
Mon, 05 Mar 2012The Volkswagen Group is comprised of 11 brands producing 240 vehicles across 49 factories throughout the world. So the best way to show off the range of the VW family is to cram a few thousand journalists and VIPs into a massive makeshift stand to outline the Group's goals, what's in the pipeline and what you'll be able to buy later this year.
To that end, VW pulled out all the stops on the eve of the 2012 Geneva Motor Show, bringing along 10 vehicles from across the range. We'll be delving into the details of each over the next two days of show coverage, but before that happens, you can read all about what we saw tonight from the cheap seats after the break.
