1980 Volkswagen Westfalia, full camper package. Solid van, spent most of it's life in California, then moved to Wisconsin before I brought it to Ohio. This is the first year for the Vanagon, since it replaced the Bus.

I have too many Westies at this point to tackle this project. The van has no rot or major rust anywhere. The camper is 100% complete. It even has the rear mosquito net in new condition! I was going to part this out for the rest of my Westies, but it's way too solid and it would be a waste to do so.

The entire camper package is there, and it's in great shape. This camper features sleeping for 4, stove, sink, liquid propane refrigerator, lots of storage, electrical outlets, swivel front seats, etc. The camper top has NO holes in it! The top bunk is nearly mint. Everything works as it should. The camper top even has a newer seal around it. The interior could use a thorough cleaning. The driver seat is well worn.

The motor will need a new head, piston, and jug. Everything else on it is fine. The engine is partially dismantled, and you can see where the damage is. Everything needed for the motor is included, other than the required new parts. Also, I have a turn-key 2.0 fuel injected motor that is rebuilt, with new heads. It is available for $1,500 if you would like it. It has everything mounted, including the computer. Just lift it in and bolt it up.

The exterior looks as if it sat and baked in the California sun. There is surface rust throughout the exterior, but to rot or holes anywhere. The underneath is pretty much spotless.

See the link to 49 photos below. I do have a "buy it now" price in mind, just ask. Please consider that this thing is easily worth at least a few grand just in parts, so I think my "buy it now" figure is reasonable. Come and get it!!

VW Jetta GLI, Peugeot 505 are MotorWeek's 1986 Euro sport sedan alternatives

Tue, Dec 23 2014

Video reviews have become a mainstay of automotive journalism, but long before every publication turned on its video cameras and started uploading to YouTube, there was one program that was blazing the trail. That, of course, was MotorWeek, the television car program produced by Maryland Public Television and hosted by the inimitable John Davis. The program first aired back in 1981, and after more than three decades in the business, it's got a considerable archive of old episodes to unearth. In this latest gem recovered from the MotorWeek back catalog, the program pitted two European sports sedans against each other: a Volkswagen Jetta GLI and a Peugeot 505 Turbo. That's right: back in the 1980s, Peugeot was still competing in the US marketplace. The forced-induction 505 may not have been enough to keep the French automaker in American showrooms, but it was enough to stand up against the VW. Which one won MotorWeek's favor? You'll just have to watch the six-minute clip to find out. News Source: MotorWeek via YouTube Volkswagen Peugeot Economy Cars Performance Videos Sedan vw jetta gli

VW reveals Outback-rivaling Golf Alltrack ahead of Paris

Wed, 24 Sep 2014

The Volkswagen Passat Alltrack is getting a baby brother at this year's 2014 Paris Motor Show in the form of a new Golf Alltrack. Like its larger sibling, the little wagon is supposed to offer light-duty off-road driving ability combined with a more rugged look to show it off.
To give the Golf Alltrack that soft-road ability, VW is outfitting the wagon with its latest 4Motion all-wheel drive system from Haldex. The setup can decouple power from the rear-axle when not needed to save fuel. To further improve traction, the Alltrack gets VW's electronic differential lock, and the car can individually brake its inside wheel during hard cornering for better handling.
Volkswagen also wants the Alltrack to be able to visually show that it can handle getting away from the pavement, even though it starts life as a standard Golf wagon. That means jacking up the suspension an extra 0.75 inches and adding black moldings all the way around the car. There are also redesigned bumpers for the front and rear and silver underbody protection, plus new accents like anodized roof rails and silver mirror caps. The interior is essentially unchanged from the wagon, except for altered trim and Alltrack badges.

Anti-UAW VW workers move to form own union

Sat, 30 Aug 2014

The struggle over unionization at the Volkswagen factory in Chattanooga, TN, continues to get more complicated. There's now a second union fighting to organize at the plant; although this one is staunchly against the actions of the United Auto Workers. At the same time, the UAW is still signing up voluntary members to its recently created Local 42 at the facility and is reportedly near having a majority of the hourly employees on its side.
The new, anti-UAW union campaign is being spearheaded by employee Mike Burton, according to Reuters, and he calls his group the American Council of Employees. He claims to already have 108 signatures in support of his organization. Burton believes that the UAW is harmful to businesses, and his goal is to force another vote to determine a preferred union among workers.
The UAW was initially defeated (712 to 626) when it attempted a union vote at the Tennessee plant in February. However, UAW secretary-treasurer Gary Casteel told Reuters that Local 42 has already signed up over 700 members. If it can reach a majority of the roughly 1,500 employees, the group hopes VW might consider recognizing it as the factory's union.
