Willing to ship worldwide, and I can deliver to Port of Norfolk VA.

Up for sale is our beautiful 1979 VW Westfalia Deluxe Camper!  It is in excellent shape with no known issues.  As you can see from the photos, it has been very well cared for, and we have done lots of work on this great bus.  We have had the bus since 2008, and taken her on many road trips and camping trips across Virginia, North Carolina, and West Virginia.  In the past three weeks she has gone on camping in Powhatan Co, and Lake Anna, both trips 100% trouble free.  The bus is located at my house in Newport News, VA 23608.

The body was painted just before we purchased it, and is holding up great.  At the same time they replaced the pop-top tent. There are no dents or dings, but just a scratch on the passenger door (see photo) and a tiny rust spot on the driver door (see photo). According to the previous owner, there was a dent that was fixed on the passenger side rear corner, but it does not show.

We have done a TON to improve the comfort and looks of the bus.  Here is a list of some of the features and improvements this bus has:

-very strong running engine (42k on odometer, but probably 142 or 242)

-recent tune up with new plugs and wires

-recent timing job

-recent valve adjustment

-recent brake job- Stops fast and strait

-new Kenwood (KDC-258U) CD player with aux input and USP port

- new 6.5 Kenwood Excelon door speakers

- new 3-way Pioneer speakers in rear cabin

-new front door panels

-new front kick panels

-new VA state inspection (4/15)

-deluxe refrigerator – Works great

-new deep cycle battery for the fridge and camping gear

-recently new starting battery

-new front cabin rubber mat

-New walkthrough mat

-New Westfalia fabric front seat covers

-Rear bench/mattress and upper mattress recently steam cleaned

-childs cot for front cabin area (not pictured because it was in my garage)

-complete original curtain set

-original front privacy curtain

-rear hatch mosquito screen

-cabinets recently laminated. Looks perfect!

-New fire extinguisher

-Good tires with tons of tread

-New carpet installed in rear cabin and around seats

-Rare front table

-Cool table mount for outside of bus.  Allows the large table to be set up outside when camping

-Full propane tank

-Full size spare tire with tons of tread

Although this is an amazing bus, here are a few things that should be addressed at some point:

-Driver door just started not opening when interior handle is pulled.  This is due to the speaker and door panel install.  It is a very easy fix, but you have to take to panel off.

-Scratch and rust mark previously mentioned, plus minor paint blemishes here and there.

-sink leaks when using city water.  It works perfectly on the tanked water.

-One interior light doesn't work. It’s likely the bulb.

-Front windshield seal needs replacing.  I have ordered a new one, and it is included in the sale.

-key is worn out a bit and locking some doors from the outside can be tricky

All in all this a great bus ready for your summer road trip.  I am available most of the time to show the bus if enough notice is given.  Please give me a call or shoot me a text message to set up an appointment to see her.  You will not be disappointed!

Thank you,

Average transaction prices climb to a record $36,270 in January

Sat, Feb 3 2018

The automotive sector made a hash of the numbers last month, a mess of pluses and minuses clogging the transaction-price charts according to Kelley Blue Book. The overall industry rose one percent, even though buyers bought fewer cars and light vehicles in January 2018 vs 2017 using the selling-day adjusted rate. Due to January transaction prices rising to $36,270, a record for January, the value of new vehicles sold climbed more than $1 billion compared to January 2017. KBB's transaction prices don't include customer incentives, which changes the complexion slightly; average incentive spending rose to just over ten percent. The average transaction price in December 2017 was $36,756, so January dropped a bit - nothing unexpected, with the month annually blamed for "January doldrums." More revealing is the fact that the average transaction price in January 2017 was $34,910. This year's plumped-up figure came courtesy of the continued shift to crossovers, SUVs, and light trucks, which shouldn't surprise anyone who's read an automotive blog in the past 20 years. That category comprised nearly 70 percent of new vehicle sales for the month. Some manufacturers profited more than others, though. Fiat Chrysler managed 12.8 percent fewer sales in January compared year-on-year, but the company's vehicles sold for $1,300 more. The Ford brand suffered a 6.3-percent dip in sales, but brand transaction prices increased $2,000, while a Lincoln sold for $8,700 more on average. General Motors sold more cars and sold them for more money; overall GM transaction prices rose four percent, or $1,270, while a GMC traded hands for seven-percent more than in January 2017 and a Cadillac got $2,300 more on average. Of KBB's listed automakers, the Volkswagen Group got the most of out its customers, transaction prices rising at the German automaker by 5.6 percent to $42,243 in January 2018 compared to a year earlier. American Honda followed with a 4.3-percent increase to $28,991, GM in third at 4.1 percent to $40,313. Find your next car at Autoblog using our new and used car listings or the Car Finder tool. Broken out by segment, minivans rocked the table, transaction prices leaping by 7.9 percent to $35,380 compared to January a year earlier. Luxury cars boasted the next-highest rise, at 3.6 percent to $58,533.

Volkswagen's 261-mpg hand-built XL1 headed for Geneva

Thu, 21 Feb 2013

After years of rumors, development and testing, the Volkswagen XL1 is finally about to become a reality. The project that began life as a daring 1-Liter concept car in 2002, will finally get its production-ready curtain call at the Geneva Motor Show in just a few weeks.
As soon as it hits the streets, the two-seat XL1 will instantly become the most fuel-efficient and most aerodynamic production car in the world. The car uses a plug-in hybrid system to achieve mind-blowing consumption of just 0.9 liters of diesel fuel consumed every 100 kilometers (and average of roughly 261 miles per gallon). Plus, the XL1 can go up to 50 kilometers on its battery power alone. Coefficient of drag is a miniscule 0.189, thanks to a tiny frontal area and an obviously slippery shape.
XL1 power comes from a two-cylinder diesel motor connected to a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, while the 20 kW electric motor is fed by a lithium-ion battery. Both combine to give the XL1 performance figures that are, while not stirring, not shabby considering its extreme frugality: 0-62 miles per hour comes up in 12.7 seconds and top speed is nearly 146 mph.

2013 Volkswagen Golf R Cabriolet

Thu, 07 Mar 2013

The Golf VI's Last Hurrah Is Pure Niche
This was in the heart of the ultra-chic Côte d'Azur during winter. The car to be tested was the not-for-North America 2013 Volkswagen Golf R Cabriolet. Prevailing weather conditions here this time of year are bizarrely pleasant, as though a dome of Swarovski crystal has been placed over the entire region to protect it from any real winter spoiling things. And the zippy Golf R Cabriolet is a sports car designed precisely for this area's preciously narrow winding streets, as well as for the lofty budgets of its property owners.
So then why was it snowing like we were in northern Michigan? The weather front hit from the north like a swift kick to the Jordaches. The roof was open on this Candy White Golf R Cabrio and I, as is my wont, was determined through thick or thin to keep it retracted. It had been raining and sometimes sleeting like the End of Days, but I kept the lid cracked because the 261-horsepower cabrio - the most powerful convertible ever built by Volkswagen - was snipping along nicely as the bad weather blew over my head and wetted only the rear headrests.
