Surfing Safari....From the moment I got this bus I thought of it as the ultimate surf bus. It can be anything you want though, from being the coolest soccer van on the block, to cruising thru the mountains, to just showing it off at your local park. This is just a fantastic all around 7 passenger bus.  With its beautiful two tone Reef Blue-Pastel White paint and clean original interior it just begs to hit the road.  These vans were so ahead of their time, way before there was any thing called a mini-van. These buses are so versatile, with plenty of room to haul your gear, your friends and your family.

The motor just purrs, and runs like a dream.  It was motor was rebuilt recently, is very clean, and sounds great with plenty of power. The trans axle shifts smooth and doesn't grind or pop out of any gears.  The front disc brakes were just replaced with new rotors and the rears shoes are like new as well so it stops straight and smooth. The front end is tight with recently replaced ball joints and doesn't clunk or wander. The front and rear shocks were replaced recently too.  All the electrical works as it should.  For its age everything feels tight, you really don't feel like you are driving a 35 year old vehicle.  It's hard to find the right words to describe this incredible bus.

Here are some of the highlights:

Exterior

  • Straight Body
  • Rust Free
  • Repainted Reef Blue and Pastel White two tone
  • Clean Floor Panels treated with Por 15 rust preventative
  • One key works ignition and all the doors
  • New Windshield, Wipers and seal
  • New sliding door seal

Interior

  • Original Seats in Excellent Condition
  • Clean Original Dash
  • CD Player with AM/FM Radio with two 6X9 Box speakers
  • Original floor mats looks good
  • Headliner in good condition, does have a couple small tears which have been patched
  • New custom stained birch door panels give it that Tiki feel

Engine

  • 2.0 Liter Fuel Air Cooled Engine with Weber progressive carburetor
  • Engine was rebuilt recently but I did not receive any paperwork
  • 120 to 125 Pounds of Compression
  • Just Tuned-Up New plugs, points, and condenser
  • Fresh Oil with New Filter

Miscellaneous

  • Newer Battery
  • New Tail lights and marker lights all the way around
  • New Hankook Tires on Factory Alloy Wheels
  • Custom Alloy Bumpers
  • Cool Repro Wooden Roof rack

This unique bus will provide plenty of fun in the sun and sweet cruising. 1979 was the last year of the Bay window buses before they changed to the Vanagon style. Which makes it somewhat rare and desirable in my opinion...Sorry the surf board is just a prop and not included in the sale :)

If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask.  If you are local and serious feel free to set-up a viewing.  You can also learn more about me by clicking on the "me" link next to my feedback score and going to the link for my website.  I am open to reasonable offers on my Buy It Now if you're interested in working out a deal.  But I  will only do so through E-Bay and in person or over the phone.  Call me @ 720-270-5637 with any questions.  As a licensed Colorado Dealer I do have to sell the van as miles exempt due to its age.  Good luck bidding and have fun.  Peace and Old VW's

Fully Charged rolls into season 3 with VW XL1 and electric Land Rover

Sat, Jan 18 2014

It's been some time since last we visited with British actor and electric car proponent Robert Llewellyn and his web-based video series, Fully Charged. The show, now sponsored by Ecotricity, has started rolling out its third season and now has available two episodes featuring a pair of truly unique – and diametrically opposed – vehicles. The first installment starts with some interesting numbers involving the host's Nissan Leaf and its energy consumption over the past 36,000 miles, but soon moves on to the ultra-aero, ultra-expensive Volkswagen XL1. Now, if you've already seen the footage from our own XL1 first drive review, there's not a lot new here except, perhaps, more enthusiasm and a better listen of the two-cylinder diesel kicking in. Still, it's a great reminder of a truly unique vehicle and we enjoyed the segment. The second episode features an electrified Land Rover Defender 110. This is a vehicle you'd more likely see on an African safari than at the local mall. It's not a home-built conversion either, but rather, something the company has put together "for the boffins to create the ideas and see if they work." Boasting a 50-mile range, it's certainly something we like to take on an off-road adventure. Llewellyn is given the chance to do just that, and though the course is somewhat milder than what we might attempt, it does feature a stretch of river and some rough, rutted tracks. You can watch both episodes by scrolling below let us know which vehicle you'd prefer in the comments. This writer is going with the four-wheel-drive. This content is hosted by a third party. Winterkorn vacates chairs on Audi, Truck & Bus boards

Thu, Nov 12 2015

The last remaining vestiges of Martin Winterkorn's power within the Volkswagen Group are slowly melting away. The former chairman of the group's management board resigned as CEO nearly two months ago in the wake of the diesel emissions scandal. He held onto other roles within the group, but one by one he's been vacating those as well. Last month Winterkorn resigned from his role at Porsche SE – Volkswagen's largest shareholder. Now the latest development comes from Bloomberg, which reports that Winterkorn has stepped down from his role as chairman of the supervisory board at Audi. Prior to his promotion to run the entire group, Winterkorn served as chief executive of the Audi division, and prior to his resignation served continued to serve as its board chairman. No date was given for his resignation from that capacity, nor any successor named at this point. Repeated requests for clarification from Audi have gone unanswered. In correspondence with Autoblog, however, spokespeople for VW's commercial vehicle operations confirmed that Winterkorn has also stepped down as the chairman of the board at Truck & Bus GmbH. The newly established division encompasses truck manufacturers Man and Scania. Winterkorn also served as chairman of Scania's board, but requests for confirmation of his departure from that role also went unanswered. The Swedish truck manufacturer, however, named Henrik Henriksson as its a new chief executive only a few days ago.
