See the seller's listing for full details and description of any imperfections.Seller Notes:"The vehicle is NOT in running condition. It was running two years ago and has been sitting since. I believe the problem may be with the fuel delivery system but I am NOT an expert, and do not know how much it would take to get it running again. The last time the battery was charged the engine would turn over fine, but would not start. There is a chance that the starter would also need to be replaced as it would not always engage. The vehicle has some major rust problems in the body that would also need to be addressed at some point.A back seat comes with the vehicle, but it is not attached at the moment. There are also some minor electrical problems with the rear turn signals. The "sun roof" is stock about 1" open, presumably rusted in place."

Own a groovy piece of automotive history!

The vehicle is NOT in running condition. It would need to be towed or put on a trailer.

This is definitely a project vehicle.

There is no expressed or implied warranty - the vehicle is sold "as is".

The actual mileage of this vehicle is unknown as the speedometer has been changed at least once.
The actual mile is probably quite high.

It was running two years ago and has been sitting since.

I believe the problem may be with the fuel delivery system but I am NOT an expert, and do not know how much it would take to get it running again

The last time the battery was charged the engine would turn over fine, but would not start.

There is a chance that the starter would also need to be replaced as it would not always engage.

The vehicle has some major rust problems in the body that would also need to be addressed at some point. I have attempted to get pictures of some of the problem areas. Most of the problems are on the rear half of the vehicle, the rear wheel wells, etc.

There is also some rust on the driver side floor.

A back seat comes with the vehicle,  but it is not attached at the moment.

There are some minor electrical problems with the rear turn signals.

The "sun roof" is stock about 1" open, presumably rusted in place.

On the bright side of things, the vehicle is mostly complete, though it would need some TLC inside and out to get it looking nice again.
When it was running it was a very fun vehicle to drive - there is nothing else like it - and it always got a lot of compliments even in its current condition.
It is a veteran of many road trips on Dead and Phish tours.

I love this bus, but do not have the time, resources, or expertise to return it to running condition.

I am hoping it can go to someone who will restore it to its former glory, or who can at least use it for parts so that others may live.

I have attempted to describe the bus the best I can, and I have listed all of the problems that I am aware of - but as I said I am not an expert.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or would like to see more pictures.

If you are local please contact me through ebay and I can arrange for you to have a look at it.

UAW Falls 87 Votes Short Of Major Victory In South

Sat, Feb 15 2014

Just 87 votes at the Volkswagen plant in Tennessee separated the United Auto Workers union from what would have been its first successful organization of workers at a foreign automaker in the South. Instead of celebrating a potential watershed moment for labor politics in the region, UAW supporters were left crestfallen by the 712-626 vote against union representation in the election that ended Friday night. The result stunned many labor experts who expected a UAW win because Volkswagen tacitly endorsed the union and even allowed organizers into the Chattanooga factory to make sales pitches. The loss is a major setback for the UAW's effort to make inroads in the growing South, where foreign automakers have 14 assembly plants, eight built in the past decade, said Kristin Dziczek, director of the labor and industry group at the Center for Automotive Research, an industry think tank in Michigan. "If this was going to work anywhere, this is where it was going to work," she said of the Volkswagen vote. Organizing a Southern plant is so crucial to the union that UAW President Bob King told workers in a speech that the union has no long-term future without it. The loss means the union remains largely quarantined with the Detroit Three in the Midwest and Northeast. Many viewed VW as the union's best chance to gain a crucial foothold in the South because other automakers have not been as welcoming as Volkswagen. Labor interests make up half of the supervisory board at VW in Germany, and they questioned why the Chattanooga plant is the company's only major factory worldwide without formal worker representation. VW wanted a German-style "works council" in Chattanooga to give employees a say over working conditions. The company says U.S. law won't allow it without an independent union. In Chattanooga, the union faced stern opposition from Republican politicians who warned that a UAW victory would chase away other automakers who might come to the region. Sen. Bob Corker of Tennessee was the most vocal opponent, saying that he was told that VW would soon announce plans to build a new SUV in Chattanooga if workers rejected the union. That was later denied by a VW executive, who said the union vote had no bearing on expansion decisions. Other state politicians threatened to cut off state incentives for the plant to expand if the union was approved.

Volkswagen Golf R Evo may debut at Beijing Motor Show

Thu, 23 Jan 2014

If a report in Auto Express is correct, a lighter, faster brother to the Volkswagen Golf R will be shown to the world at the Beijing Motor Show in April. Said to be called the Golf R Evo, the even harder hot hatch would be unveiled as one of those concepts that's practically a de facto presentation of the genuine thing. The Evo in its name will come from having a carbon fiber roof and CF in the bodywork, lighter wheels, thinner bucket seats up front and a roll cage instead of rear seats.
If there's a power increase, it's been described as "a small bump." However, as the report mentions, if the Jenny Craig regimen can drop 100 kilograms (220 pounds) from the the 3,247-pound weight of the European Golf R, then the Golf R Evo will do about the same damage on the scales as the Golf but have at least 50 more horsepower and 44 more pound-feet of torque.
Since we still don't have the current Golf, this isn't something that should keep you awake even if the 'concept' does become a production model. But it is good to know that the Golf R is really going to start pushing its boundaries.

Recharge Wrap-up: First VW e-Golf in US up for auction, meet Project Ain't Fuelin'

Tue, Oct 14 2014

Volkswagen is auctioning the first e-Golf in the US to raise money for Global Green USA. The auction is live now, and bidding goes until 3:30 pm Eastern on October 29. Global Green USA will use the proceeds to help find solutions to climate change, and the winner will get to enjoy emissions-free driving before the car e-Golf goes on sale in November. If you don't live in or near California, Connecticut, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont or Washington DC, you might want to sit this one out, as the car will only be available to pick up at dealers in those initial launch states. Go bid now, or learn more in the press release below. Berlin, Germany will use Solaris electric buses for a complete bus line in 2015. The downtown line will run 3.8 miles between Zoologischer Garten Station and Sudkreuz. The transport operator Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG) will use four of the Solaris e-buses for the test, each about 39 feet long. The buses use a 200-kilowatt inductive charging system at the ends of the line to recharge in just a few minutes. The government-funded test runs through 2016, but BVG pans to use the electric buses beyond that timeline. Read more at Green Car Congress. The American Petroleum Institute (API) is worried that the Obama administration will use ethanol requirements to influence a Senate race in Iowa. In the midst of a close race against Republican Joni Ernst, Representative Bruce Braley, the Democratic candidate, is urging Obama to reject a cut in the Renewable Fuel Standard. The November election approaches, meanwhile the EPA continues to delay issuing an ethanol requirement for the year, with or without its proposed 16-percent reduction. Rejecting the cut could help get farmers and ethanol producers on the side of Braley. "We are very concerned that the signals we are seeing from the administration is that the political calculations are outweighing sound fuels policy," says API's Bob Greco. Read more at Businessweek. Episode 3 of Valvoline's Under The Hood video series features Daniel Gray of MPGomatic, who is doing just that to a 1999 Honda Civic HX Coupe. He aims to get 50 mpg out of the old Civic by tuning it up, tinkering with the aerodynamics, switching to more efficient tires and other modifications.
