There is a lot to say about this bus. I found it with a caved in roof skin and braces, and it hadn't ran in 10+ years. An old buildings roof collapsed on the bus and it was holding the roof from crushing a karmann ghia and a convertible beetle. The only thing it damaged was the roof skin and some of the drip rail. So when replacing the skin I made it into a truck.
The truck now has air scoops mounted on the sides. Not shown in some pics
Yakima roof basket is not included, I no longer have it.

The rear hatch opens like factory still. (I used a donor bus for the correct corners inside the bed, and the latch.
2.0L fuel injected engine with 4 speed manual trans DAILY DRIVEN
Newer tires
Freshly powdercoated wheels. Custom side step and custom hitch powdercoated
Thule roof rack load bars
Factory gas heater (that I haven't got going again yet)
Factory Reef Blue paint and ROADRUNNER model
Pretty fresh motor according to the previous owner
Does not leak oil
Has newer seats out of something else in front. With added pedal extensions because my wife couldn't reach pedals well.
Seats 5 with the rear bench
Has 36" legroom in the back

The 2.0 liter has quite a bit of power with the EFI and stock size tires. Bus weighs less then a factory bus also, so Im sure that helps. Sometimes the bus idles low, and I have to keep it running at idle. Seems to do this only when its warm out, because in the mornings at lower temps it idles fine, sometime even idles high. This could be related to a temp sensor? Im not sure. I drive it everyday, so this doesn't deter its reliability.

42" bed with custom tailgate
Idles high and sometimes low, but it very reliable
Needs a drivers door panel (looks like the door was replaced at one time. but sometime ago
Some rust spots but nothing huge. surface rust Rock chips up front being tow barred at some point, all floors are solid, but show some surface rust. overall pretty dry compared to the rust buckets ive seen.

Overall very solid
Rear bench is factory in awesome shape (off white ) which folds forward. which makes it nice when opening the hatch.
Factory rubber mats front and back

I have a SEARS all state trailer that can come with the bus for the right price. The custom hitch has the mounts for the single wheel trailer along with a 2" receiver.

Please do not hesitate to ask questions. I will be happy to answer them, but I don't want to take hours of time to show how this was done so someone can just copy it!! :) I cannot be held responsible for the buyers assumptions. This truck is NOT a show truck and was a fun project that turned out pretty good. Im not a body guy so it could have been done differently. but this way certainly worked well.

Ex-Fiat exec: VW diesel scandal will hurt plug-in hybrids

Thu, Apr 7 2016

It doesn't sound right at first blush, but former Fiat executive and noted diesel-powertrain expert Rinaldo Rinolfi thinks that plug-in hybrid sales may be more impacted by the VW diesel-emissions scandal than diesel sales. Rinolfi, who worked for Fiat for 40 years, told Automotive News Europe, said that the Euro 6 emissions rules that went into effect in 2015 have already increased diesel-engine production costs enough to raise prices and ultimately flatten demand. By the end of the decade, diesel-vehicle sales will settle in at a 40-percent market share of new European vehicles, and that was going to happen with or without the scandal. "Every carmaker has found ways to achieve fuel consumption and emissions results that have progressively diverged from the real driving conditions." - Rinaldo Rinolfi Makers of plug-in hybrids have more to lose, though, because every PHEV maker has figured out a way to keep emissions figures artificially low, Rinolfi said. Under New European Driving Cycle (NEDC) standards, PHEVs can be tested part of the time with the electric motor in action, meaning emissions get driven down to 30 percent to 40 percent less than real-world figures. With the VW scandal pushing regulators to use real-world figures, those PHEV emissions numbers are expected to rise substantially. To a lesser extent, hybrid emissions figures are also tested as artificially low. "Over the years, even without defeat devices, every carmaker has found ways to achieve fuel consumption and emissions results that have progressively diverged from the real driving conditions the customer experiences," Rinolfi said in the Automotive News Europe interview. Rinolfi is a little sunnier about compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicles, estimating that CNG emissions are as much as 25 percent lower compared to conventional vehicles. As for battery-electrics, he's not so optimistic, estimating that there needs to be at least a tenfold improvement in energy efficiency for EVs to be truly competitive with conventional vehicles. "I've been waiting for a true breakthrough for the past 25 years, but I've not seen it yet," Rinolfi said about EVs in the Automotive News Europe interview. German judge 'inclined to dismiss' hedge fund lawsuit against Porsche

Fri, Feb 27 2015

Last year, around two dozen investors, including hedge funds, leveled a 1.4 billion euro ($1.95 billion at the time) lawsuit against Porsche in connection with the automaker's attempted takeover of Volkswagen in 2008. The Stuttgart Regional Court dismissed the case. Around 19 of those plaintiffs are heading back to court to appeal the ruling and still hope to get 1.2 billion euros ($1.4 billion). However, according to one German judge, the chances for success aren't any better this time around. "On balance it's our view that we consider the lawsuit, or the appeal, to be unpromising for several reasons," Gerhard Ruf, a judge in Stuttgart, said to Reuters. "We are inclined to dismiss the case." The court's ruling on the appeal will be announced on March 26. The investors' case hinges on Porsche's strategy surrounding the botched takeover. The sports car maker said that it wasn't trying to control VW, when in fact it was. These hedge funds had bet against Volkswagen stock, but the share price surged when Porsche's plan inevitably came to light. Investors have sued the sports car company multiple times since then in attempts to recoup billions of dollars. However, none of the lawsuits have been successful, whether attempted in the US or Germany. Former Porsche CEO Wendelin Wiedeking and and CFO Holger Haerter might still stand trial for the alleged stock manipulation, though. Volkswagen planning Up! hybrid model using XL1 powertrain

Sun, 24 Feb 2013

Even though we've finally gotten a look at the production version of the 261-mile per gallon Volkswagen XL1, this aero-shaped two-seater was never intended for high-volume sales. Fortunately, it sounds like the same isn't true for the car's diesel plug-in hybrid powertrain, which, according to a report from AutoCar, could make its way under the hood of another Volkswagen model: the Up! minicar (shown above).
A potential Up! Hybrid would likely be able to return some of the same impressive fuel economy numbers as the XL1, but it would be a more realistic car with more passenger space and greater production capacity. The hand-built XL1 will use a 47-horsepower, two-cylinder TDI engine paired to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, and the 27-hp electric motor and lithium-ion battery helps deliver an all-electric driving range of 31 miles.
One of the core pillars of the XL1's design is its lightweight construction with a 1752-pound curb weight, which makes the Up! a perfect recipient for using this powertrain since it weighs just 300 pounds more. The report says that the Up! Hybrid is still in the developmental phase, so a production version isn't expected for at least another 18 months.
