1976 Vw Westfalia Bus Pop Top Camper! Westy Type 2 on 2040-cars
United States
Up for sale is a 1976 Pop Top VW Camper Bus. This Camper is a Southern California surf Bus transplanted to Northern Michigan about 7 years ago (you even get the surf beach guide book I got with it). Always garaged since it was here and has never seen the snow! Gets lots of thumbs ups and attention wherever you go. The body is great shape but the paint is a newer respray. But if you get closer you will see tiny flaws and know that we have used this bus...Happily! Having said that- It looks SUPER! The interior is complete and in very nice age for its age, in fact- I wouldn't be surprised if the previous owner restored it awhile back. Its VERY nice and drives and stops tight and straight. I've owned and drove 3 Bugs (65,71,74) , 2 buses (76,78) and a 73 Thing and this 1976 westy drives the best After a new engine was made for it and ran for a short time a back gas line blew, luckily at a busy stop sign with an off duty fireman, a cop and gas station all near by and all with fire extinguishers the fire was out in less then 3 min. but scorched the paint on the vent shown in photos and there is some crazing under it. (that did not even photograph but i tried last photo) I took the bus to my local vintage shop and they did that work ran new wires and replace a lot of the other new items like the generator. That was years ago not a problem since, driven all over Northern Lower Michigan in the last two summers. over $22,000 invested in parts, labor and extra goodies Not a show bus yet (almost) but a very great bus ready to play and have fun I hate to see her go after all the fun, but my kids enjoy time on the lake more then time the woods. The bus features: A 2.0L Fuel Injected Motor- the strongest VW engine available for Buses! (Runs great with TONS of power) just replaced in 2011 with not a "crap" crate engine but a hand made engine by a 40 year vw guru at a cost of over $7500 using only the best parts Nos or low mile originals
below is a youtube video of the engine running http://youtu.be/hOESQthBwqc |

VW launches special edition Touareg X
Tue, 03 Dec 2013Volkswagen is no stranger to special editions, but its Touareg SUV has remained largely unspecial in terms of exclusive trims or unique packages. That's changed with the announcement of the Touareg X, a 1,000-unit run based on the V6 TDI Lux trim - mid-range diesel model, between the navigation-equipped TDI Sport and the TDI R-Line.
The already special Touareg gets 19-inch "Moab" wheels, LED taillights (to go along with its LED DRLs) and "Touareg X" badging, while all 1,000 units will be painted Moonlight Blue Pearl. Tweaks in the cabin are equally light, with a black-on-black-on-black color scheme dominating - black Vienna leather, a black headliner and piano black trim. Aluminum bits make an appearance in the form of the door sills and pedals, although that's about it.
Other than those few aesthetic tweaks, the Touareg X is equipped largely like the Touareg Lux on which it's based. That means navigation, a panoramic sunroof, power seats, LED running lights, dual-zone air conditioning and heated power seats, among other tech pieces. Pricing starts at $56,170, making for a slight bump of $1,195 over the standard Touareg Lux.
Volkswagen lays off 500 Chattanooga workers
Fri, 19 Apr 2013The redesigned Volkswagen Passat has been a decent seller since its debut in 2011, but sales have apparently dropped off enough that the automaker is trimming some of the employees from its Chattanooga, TN assembly plant. According to Automotive News, Volkswagen will be cutting shifts and laying off 500 contracted workers in response to slowing sales.
Currently, the plant has three teams running 10-hour shifts Monday through Saturday, but starting May 13, this will be reduced down to two teams running 10-hour shifts Monday through Thursday. This will be done to reduce dealer inventory (the article says that VW dealers, on average, have a 97-day supply of Passats) and production capacity (currently running at an annual pace of 170,000 units, which is more than the 150,000 annual units the plant was planned to produce).
This, of course, isn't saying that the Passat has been a failure since VW added 200 full-time employees to the plant in February 2012 to keep up with increased demand. The AN article says that automakers frequently overstaff plants during the launch of a new product - or in this case, a new product and a new plant - but eventually reduce the workers as things run smoother and more efficiently.
CEO says Volkswagen's buying spree is over
Mon, 03 Sep 2012
After adding Italian motorcycle icon Ducati to its stable and spending $5.6 billion on the rest of Porsche, Volkswagen CEO Martin Winterkorn says he's done shopping for a while.
"We have enough to do at the moment in taking our twelve brands to where we want to be," Winterkorn tells German newspaper Handelsblatt.
