                                                  PAPA JOE'S VW VANAGON CAMPMOBILE

Papa Joe is 85. He still rides his bicycle 5 miles each workday morning to the automotive upholstery shop he has run for 60 years. It would be wasteful to drive the VW Bus. He is frugal, reserved and never wasteful, which explains why he has always owned a VW Bus or Vanagon.

He is the second owner of the 1976 VW Campmobile, having purchased it in 1991. He remembers rebuilding the 2.0 liter engine at some point of his ownership and changing the fuel injection system to carburation.

Though the odometer reads 73,000 miles, he truthfully cannot recall whether that is the correct mileage, or whether the speedometer has run through 173,000 miles. But, he knows that the engine is younger and shows no signs or weariness.

He does not wash or clean the Bus needlessly or excessively, and did not polish or clean it prior to taking the photographs in this listing.  Obvously, any dirt showing on the walls, wheels, ceiling or canvas tent can be cleaned off.
Papa Joe is not interested in hiding any defects or imperfections which might exist.

Of course, the upholstery is original and immaculate. Papa Joe keeps the front seats covered with seat covers at all times, and rarely has anyone sat in the rear seats.

He personally upholstered and installed a new canvas tent for the top of the Bus, as well as the wheel cover attached to the front of the Bus.

Papa Joe feels the time has come for a new owner take over the care of his beloved VW Bus.

This VW Campmobile is the Deluxe Model, which means it has virtually every option available, including the following:

1. ROTATING DINETTE TABLE WITH EXTENSION LEAF

YouTube's Super Bowl commercial buzz list dominated by automakers [w/videos]

Thu, 31 Jan 2013

After Sunday's big game, YouTube will be the place to watch every commercial that you missed when you left your seat for an emergency guac refill or, as we say in Cleveland, took the Browns to the Super Bowl. That makes YouTube the nation's water cooler on Monday, and it's got some preliminary stats to share in the lead up to kickoff.
As you know, Super Bowl advertisers, particularly automakers, like to endlessly tease their big budget commercials in the weeks before the game, many times revealing them outright days in advance. Because of this, YouTube can tell us which commercials have been viewed the most so far, and their top five list is all automakers.
Kaley Cuoco appears to have been a good investment for Toyota, as her ad for the RAV4 has garnered the most YouTube views - six million and counting - among Super Bowl commercials so far. Second place goes to Mercedes-Benz, though not its actual Super Bowl commercial, but rather the teaser for it. You know, the one with Kate Upton and the car washing, which is up to 5.6 million views. Third place is Audi's Prom commercial (3.3M views), fourth goes to Volkswagen's slightly controversial Get In, Get Happy ad (3.3M views), and the fifth and final spot is bookended by the teaser video for Kaley Cuoco's commercial (3.2M views). You can watch all five in order below.

VW agrees to halt next-gen rally car development to help others stay in WRC

Sat, 22 Jun 2013

Volkswagen has petitioned the FIA to hold on to the current specifications for cars in the World Rally Championship, according to Autosport.com. The move is evidently an effort to keep as many competitors in the sport as possible, despite the fact that using the current spec racers may actually hurt Volkswagen's chances at winning. The three factory teams currently competing in the WRC are at the end of a three-year homologation cycle at the end of 2013, and new cars are expected to bow next year. But developing new racers could cost as much as $4.7 million.
That price tag would put M-Sport (which fields Ford racers) out of the WRC game for 2014 and would put Citroën participation in question as well. VW has already begun work on the next iteration of its Polo R WRC, and the hatch has nabbed four wins in six rounds this season. Now it appears that car won't bow until at least 2015. The FIA has officially agreed to freeze homologation of new WRC cars until the end of next season.

Volkswagen shows off performance-ish Passat concept

Mon, 14 Jan 2013

As part of its 2013 Detroit Auto Show debut package, Volkswagen has rolled out a sportier version of the Passat sedan, though it's strictly conceptual for now. A small dose of go-fast visuals have been added to the handsome Volkswagen, including 19-inch wheels, carbon-capped mirrors, an advanced front lighting system, LED taillamps and dual exhaust. Some carbon bits and upgraded leather are found inside the cabin, as well.
But the real performance chops come in the form of a 1.8-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that sends 250 horsepower to the Passat's front wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission. That's a good boost in power over the 170 hp of the base 2.5-liter inline-five, but not quite as potent as the 3.6-liter VR6. A lowered sport suspension and revised electronic steering are also on hand, making things slightly more involving out on the road... we assume.
It's not quite the performance concept we were hoping for, but a more enthusiastic Passat isn't necessarily a bad thing. Scroll down for the press release.
