Here is my 1973 VW Bus. I've owned the bus for about two and a half years. It was previously sitting in the California desert with no drivetrain for a number of years. I've spent the last year rebuilding the mechanics of the bus to make it a daily driver.Bus is still wearing its original paint and shows its 40 years with lots of dings and scratches and dents, but also lots of character and still holds a shine. The bus runs and drives excellent. I unfortunately have to sell it due to financial reasons. The following is a list of all the things I've done and either rebuilt or replaced with new. For more pictures including some from when I first got it and during the rebuilding click here----->
pictures
The Good:
As there was no engine or trans when I got it I've installed a rebuilt 2.0 liter engine from a 82 Vanagon (has more power than the stock 1.7 and plenty of torque). Engine has less than 500 miles on it.
Brand new dual carbs .
New alternator
New belt, hoses, plugs, wires, coil, points, cap, engine seal.
New clutch and pressure plate/throw out bearing
T-stat and flaps in good working order (alot of the times people eliminate them).
Electric fuel pump.
Fuel tank has been acid washed and internally coated with Eastwoods tank sealer, has new internal filter and outlet pipe.
New Porsche 924 CV joints (allows for greater angle without fouling).
All New brakes. Master, wheel cylinders, rebuilt calipers, turned rotors, brake hoses new, pads and shoes replaced.
New ball joints.
New steering dampener and drag link.
New shocks front and back.
New throttle and clutch cables
Throttle pedal assembly rebuilt with new pedal and down rod.
Brand new 16" wheels and new 215/65R16 General Grabber All Terrain Tires
New steering wheel and adaptor (aftermarket as the stock wheel was shot and I like the smaller wheel. I have no trouble steering even at a stand still. I'll include the stock wheel if desired but it is in poor shape)
Front kick panels and rear cargo area panels replaced.
New seat stand rubber mats.
All new lenses, rear light assemblies, marker lights, wipers, front badge, mirrors and antenna.
All window rubber replaced with new Cal-look (trim less) style.
Rusted battery tray cut out and new one welded in place. Plus new battery hold down (baja bug style holder)
I'm sure there is a ton of little things I've done and gone through please look at all the pictures to see.
The Bad,
The interior is tired, headliner needs to be replaced has rips all over the place, though I did install New visors.
Door panels are original but in poor shape.
There is some small rust holes in front of both seat stands. The rust has been treated and sealed but the holes remain (see photos).
Also some rust is forming under the windshield rubber. (I treated it when I replaced the rubber there were no holes but some pits)
The windshield is probably original and has scratches from the wipers and also has a bunch of tiny air bubbles in it from were its delaminating. I wanted to replace along with the headliner but funds didnt allow.
The heater is currently not working.
The paint is original and I love it as it has tons of character. I never intended on painting it but to drive it daily and add to its charm. If your looking for a show worthy bus than this is not for you unless you want to invest in paint and interior.
The trans is strong, shifts well pulls hard but is a little whiny in forth. Its a 002.
Somebody during its life installed dual CB antennas and the holes can be seen on either side of the engine compartment. Also it has a period correct 8 track radio but it doesn't seem to work
I'm sure i'm missing things so please ask questions, I will post the answers for all to see.
I'm selling this bus in AS-IS condition with no warranty given or implied. If you have questions please ask before bidding.
$500 NON-REFUNDABLE deposit due and end of auction to keep the time wasters away. The balance can be paid in either cash in person or by wired bank transfer or certified bank check (in USA only)
I am willing to help with transporting this to the port of Los Angeles or Long Beach if your an overseas buyer and have to ship it. All SHIPPING arrangements and expense are YOUR responsibility.

Witness this insane 736-hp VW Golf immolate its front tires
Mon, 11 Mar 2013There's torque steer and then there's what we'll from now on dub "The Boba," as in Boba Kettler. The German tuner has a way with the Volkswagen Golf, and the MkI example you see above has been touched with 736 horsepower - that's right, 96 more ponies than a new SRT Viper, all trying to get to ground through those two front wheels.
The 2.0-liter, 16-valve engine has an 8,800 rpm redline and is aided by a Garrett GTX3582R turbocharger shoving 50 psi through the internals. Other upgrades include a new ECU (natch) and a six-speed 'box among other treats. The rubber is Toyo R888s - street-legal competition tires. The result is enough smoke for three Chinese New Years when the lights go green. Indeed, the standing start isn't its forte, but it can apparently get from 62 miles per hour to 124 mph in five seconds.
Watch it go in the video below. And know that this isn't even Boba's best work; he's got a 900-hp MkII Golf that'll do 0-62 mph in 2.3 seconds.
Volkswagen Golf Wagon leaked ahead of official unveiling
Sat, 02 Mar 2013Wagons ho! These three images of the upcoming Volkswagen Golf Wagon have leaked online ahead of the car's official debut, which may very well be at the Geneva Motor Show. Looking over the photos doesn't really bring any surprises - after all, this is a VW Golf with a wagon rear end grafted on, or basically what we expect next Jetta SportWagen will be.
We can only share these three images at this time, but fret not, folks. There's little doubt that all the details and images will be flowing from Volkswagen in short order. In the meantime, click on the images above to view them in high resolution.
VW issues orders for police version of e-Golf
Thu, Sep 11 2014If the Toyota Prius could be used (in fiction, anyway) as a quiet way to do a drive-by shooting, then a pure electric vehicle should have some silent benefits for the police. It's happening in the real world thanks to the new police-spec VW e-Golf. On display at an international police equipment conference in Germany this week (the Internationalen Fachmesse fur Polizeiausrustung), the 5-0-ready EV has a special paint job as well as the required top lights and digital communications gear. VW says the special e-Golf also stands ready to serve the mission of emissions reduction. The powertrain is the same as what you'll find in the civilian e-Golf, which means an 85-kW electric motor that can zip up to 62 miles per hour in 10.4 seconds and a li-ion battery that provides something between 80 and 118 miles of range. We imagine using this little car for a high-speed car chase will shrink that down a bit. Volkswagen Konzern prasentiert Fahrzeuge mit Spezialausstattung auf Polizei-Fachmesse Internationale Premiere: Der e-Golf* als Polizei-Einsatzfahrzeug Der Volkswagen Konzern prasentiert eine breite Palette seiner Fahrzeugmodelle mit speziellen Polizei-Sonderausstattungen auf der 8. Internationalen Fachmesse fur Polizeiausrustung.
