1972 Volkswagon Camper Bus on 2040-cars
Huntsville, Alabama, United States
1972 VW Campmobile! This bus was owned by a lady in Marshalltown Iowa and was owned until 1996. I have her notebook detailing every fillip and trip from 1972-1995!!!. It was wholesaled when she traded it and ended up in Florida where the second owner purchased it. I bought it from them in 2007 and it was not running. The pics show all the receipts for parts and labor I have had done. All work was done professionally not by me. The Bus is awesome to drive and here is a list of what has been done in the past 5 years and I have put less than 2000 miles on the bus since:
-Engine rebuilt by Wayne Pachico, the local VW expert. Wayne actually held the world VW Bug drag record for a short while! The engine has been completely rebuilt but I didn't have the parts painted so it still looks old. Engine is solid and sound runs perfect! See pic for details -New brakes, drums, pads, lines, calipers, hoses, cylinders, shoes -New paint outside and door jambs. -New Hankook tires -New windshield -all rubber seals on bus are new including windows, doors, handles, engine compartment, sliding door. Every seal is new, $920 kit -New upholstery on interior. Seats, Bed, floor mats, carpet -New OEM tent and matching cot. I found this from a guy that's uncle was an O eM tent maker for. VW and he had it since the late 70's! -New JVC stereo system, very nice CD, Sirius XM ready and plug in your IPhone! -New Front. Emblem -New side mirrors -New sun visors -New tail lights, headlights, signal lights -New chrome hubcaps I'm sure I missed some things but you get the general idea that everything on the bus is new! It is a great ride, I drive it enough to keep it fresh and had a blast getting it back on the road but it needs to go. Please feel free to email me with any questions as I have tried to describe the bus as accurately as I can it is 42 years old but drives like a new one ! The bus is at 35741 zip code for shipping quotes. I would feel very comfortable driving the bus anywhere. Last fall I drove it every day for 6 weeks while my truck was being repaired and never had the first issue. Very dependable! Good luck and happy camping! On Jun-03-14 at 13:10:08 PDT, seller added the following information: The sink and extra seats pictured come with the bus. I also have the original hubcaps and the original stereo. The underside is in good condition. The only rust is where the battery sits which is pretty normal. I just didn't get to it. It's a cheap fix but doesn't have to be done. Thx just trying to give full disclosure. Happy Camping! |

VW Jetta GLI, Peugeot 505 are MotorWeek's 1986 Euro sport sedan alternatives
Tue, Dec 23 2014Video reviews have become a mainstay of automotive journalism, but long before every publication turned on its video cameras and started uploading to YouTube, there was one program that was blazing the trail. That, of course, was MotorWeek, the television car program produced by Maryland Public Television and hosted by the inimitable John Davis. The program first aired back in 1981, and after more than three decades in the business, it's got a considerable archive of old episodes to unearth. In this latest gem recovered from the MotorWeek back catalog, the program pitted two European sports sedans against each other: a Volkswagen Jetta GLI and a Peugeot 505 Turbo. That's right: back in the 1980s, Peugeot was still competing in the US marketplace. The forced-induction 505 may not have been enough to keep the French automaker in American showrooms, but it was enough to stand up against the VW. Which one won MotorWeek's favor? You'll just have to watch the six-minute clip to find out. News Source: MotorWeek via YouTube Volkswagen Peugeot Economy Cars Performance Videos Sedan vw jetta gli
2014 Volkswagen XL1 [w/video]
Mon, 11 Mar 2013World's Most Efficient Car Impresses, Not Without Compromises
Among our many duties at the recent Geneva Motor Show, we were offered a pretty exclusive drive in the new Volkswagen XL1 hyper-efficient plug-in diesel hybrid. There is so much that is interesting about a car like this reaching production from a major automaker that it's tough to know where to begin.
First off, you should know that - at least for this generation - there is absolutely no chance in Albuquerque that this "1-liter vehicle" (i.e. a vehicle that can burn just one liter of fuel to travel 100 kilometers, or 62.1 miles) will ever make it into the hands of North American customers. We, too, were having trouble imagining an XL1 in typical American traffic, surrounded by comparatively massive pickups and SUVs. The driving experience had us recalling a couple of weeks in 1999 when we drove the then-revolutionary Honda Insight hybrid on US roads. We keenly remember the feeling of being very small and vulnerable, even as we felt proudly green in our 61-mpg Tochigi pod. Thing is, the Volkswagen is smaller still, and nearly as light despite its more complex drivetrain and safety features.
Volkswagen Golf R 400 Concept is a 201-mph hot hatch
Sun, 20 Apr 2014This, friends, is what happens when you shoehorn 395 horsepower into a Golf. You get a three-door hatch that will happily scurry to 62 miles per hour in 3.9 seconds and on to a top speed of 201 mph. Oh yes, we like you, Golf R 400 Concept.
As we explained in our original post, the R 400 is the long-awaited successor to bonkers Golf creations like the GTI W12 from 2007 and, more recently, the Design Vision GTI. It's powered by the same 2.0-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder found in a number of Volkswagen (and Audi, SEAT and Skoda) products, although it's been heavily massaged to pump out 332 pound-feet of torque along side its amplified horsepower.
Naturally, it's been lowered and now rides on 19-inch wheels. Outside of those changes, though, mums the word on suspension and chassis enhancements. While this is a bummer, the striking looks of the Golf R 400 more than make up for it.
