1971 - Vw Type-ii, Westfalia Campmobile - Daily Driver, Made In Germany! L@@k! on 2040-cars
Santa Cruz, California, United States
1971 Westfalia Campmobile - Type II - Bay Window Bus.
I have had this van since the mid-1990's and have a pile of receipts as
well as a clean title and current registration. I was told I was the
"third or fourth" owner since original purchase, but have no way to
verify this. This bus has taken me all over the Western United States
and has endured all sorts of driving conditions, including dirt roads,
mountain passes, and remote campgrounds. Yes, the bus went to those
concerts too. Please no jokes about the stickers - I was in college,
what do you expect!
The engine is your standard 1600cc Dual Port and is not from original release. The transmission was overhauled in the late 1990's by Volks' Cafe in Santa Cruz (now Van Cafe). The current engine was overhauled a few years ago and has less than 10,000 miles on it. Most of the camper stuff is there, though the tent and tent poles are missing. There are two front seat kid cots, one mosquito net, one stool, upper cot, and the ice box/sink, and the original curtains. The bus is tired and needs attention it has been driven about three times a month since August 2013. Earlier this year the following new parts were installed: clutch, starter, coil, voltage regulator, battery, generator, and a few other tune-up related things were done at the same time, such as fuel filter, plug wires, etc. The van has been regularly maintained and is in decent shape. The problems: missing rear bumper, missing camping tent/poles, dents/damage at front driver corner, back left corner, and side behind sliding door. There is rust along bottom of front window, along water trap, and at damaged areas. There is some rust on foot pan, mostly on drivers side. The canvas is torn/missing, the canvas on upper cot is brittle, and there is minor damage to camping interior and upholstery. The front seats need to be redone/replaced. Driver side door lock jams. No brights. Needs a new steering box but drives/steers as-is with minimal problems. Other minor issues exist and van is SOLD AS-IS. Manufactured by Westfalia Werke K-G, West Germany. |

VW pondering low-cost sub-brand for China?
Wed, 30 Jan 2013More detail is being sketched into the Volkswagen Group's plan to launch a low-cost brand for emerging markets. Late last year a German report quoted a VW rep saying that the brand has been interested in building a no-frills car, the kind that would challenge Dacia and Datsun, for a while. With both Proton and Suzuki effectively out of the partnership picture, a report in Reuters suggests VW could go straight to China, developing a car with its joint venture partners and building and selling it there.
Officially, company CEO Martin Winterkorn said the issue of a model for emerging markets would be decided this year but VW isn't any closer to confirming any kind of plan for a car in its portfolio underneath the Up!, remarking to Reuters about the China possibility, "That's an issue we're currently looking at."
2014 Volkswagen Golf GTD is our favorite oil-burning GTI
Tue, 05 Mar 2013
The 2014 Volkswagen Golf GTD has officially bowed at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show. Engineers managed to squeeze an additional 14 horsepower and 22 pound-feet of torque out of the familiar 2.0-liter turbodiesel four-cylinder engine, nudging total output to 184 hp and 280 lb-ft for 2014. The figures are good enough to earn the GTD the honor of being the most powerful diesel Golf in Volkswagen history. A start/stop system helps improve efficiency over the previous generation with the new model consuming 56 miles per gallon on the EU cycle. That's up from the 2013 model's 46 mpg. A six-speed manual transmission is standard equipment, though a six-speed dual-clutch gearbox is also available.
The GTD also offers buyers a few aesthetic tweaks to help separate the hatch from its less potent siblings. Those include a more aggressive front fascia, special badges and 17-inch alloy wheels. Expect to find the GTD in one of three exterior colors, including Tornado Red, Black and Pure White. Check out the quick press release below for more details.
Volkswagen says goodbye to Eos, Routan in 2015 updates
Wed, Jul 23 2014Usually automakers announce changes to their lineup individually on a vehicle-by-vehicle basis, but sometimes it all comes at once – especially when the changes are ones we either expected or might not otherwise notice. That's the path Volkswagen has gone with changes to its US lineup for 2015. The biggest change is what we already knew: that the new Golf arrives for the 2015 model year, bringing with it the new GTI, Golf R, e-Golf and Golf SportWagen (to replace the previous Jetta wagon). But there are some new details as well. For starters, Volkswagen has finally confirmed that both the Eos and the Routan – both long rumored to be on their way out – will be exiting this year. The Eos hardtop convertible, pictured above, will linger for one last year, its Sport trim replaced by a new Final Edition with 18-inch wheels, two-tone leather interior and enhanced equipment. Meanwhile the Routan, which hasn't actually been built in over a year, is finally dead, as VW confirms it has dropped the Chrysler-built minivan from its lineup for 2015 altogether. The German automaker has also confirmed that the Touareg is getting a facelift early in the new year, which we expect will closely follow the revisions revealed a few months ago ahead of the Beijing Motor Show. Finally VW has announced an upgrade to its 2.0-liter TDI. Fitted to the Golf, Jetta, Passat and Beetle, the updated diesel gets 10 more horsepower with output now up to 150 hp and 236 pound-feet of torque. Scope out the full list of announcements in the press release below. MODEL YEAR 2015: NEW GOLF FAMILY, REDESIGNED JETTA, AND NEW TDI® CLEAN DIESEL ENGINE HEAD THE CHANGES Jul 22, 2014 In a busy year, Volkswagen will also add a new Golf SportWagen, an all-new Golf R, a redesigned Touareg SUV, and the company's first U.S.-market EV, the e-Golf - All-new Golf is bigger, lighter, and more fuel-efficient than the previous model, seats five, and has a larger trunk than any midsize sedan - New Golf GTI has 210-horsepower engine, with improved fuel efficiency and performance - e-Golf is Volkswagen's first full Battery Electric Vehicle for sale in the U.S.
