1971 Volkswagen Westfalia Bus on 2040-cars
Albany, Oregon, United States
1971 Volkswagen Westfalia Bus I purchased this bus in 1999 and it was my daily driver
2001-2003. Its been pretty much sitting in my garage since. The engine was professionally rebuilt locally about 25k
miles ago; now running at 1641 cc's. The rebuilding mechanic said the core was
good for another rebuild if desired. I had the generator replaced with an
alternator, added a deep oil sump increasing capacity to 4 quarts, electronic
ignition (no points to set) and dual carburetors. One unique point of interest is engine access through the
top. A previous owner cut the bus floor over the engine, creating a "trap
door" access. Its saves your back when working on the top of the engine
and also provides more light in the engine compartment. The engine was rebuilt at a local "two-guys"
garage, about 25k miles ago. Bored out to 1641CC, it also has new heads,
distributor and mild performance cams. The exhaust was replaced with a
"glass pack" type single exhaust, but still provides heat. Dual carburetors
were installed at the time of rebuild, previously it ran a single 2-barrel
carburetor. I also added a fan to the heater tube, so this bus will
actually get warm inside when its cold outside. RUST: A vehicle of this age does have some rust, though I
think overall, this bus is above average. The floor of the bus was treated for
rust, sprayed with rust preventative primer then rattle can painted a beige.
There are spots (~1/4 inch) of rust here and there on the body, but no visible
signs of serious rot. The stock upholstery/mattress has been recovered with fresh
vinyl. Replaced the standard front seats with "coach" seats from a
newer bus (arm rests!). Also renewed door panels with automotive carpeting. The
upper single sleeping bunk is in place but I've never used it. The vehicle comes with extras: 4 tires/wheels that were
gifted to me. The original sink and cabinet. Three owner's manuals. All take
off parts from engine rebuild, all stockpiled new parts. Numerous gaskets for
valve covers and oil changes. The bus currently has new hippie curtains and
also has the original set included, along with screens and front bunk. Vehicle is being sold "as is" with no warranties expressed or implied. A deposit of $500.00 is due within 24 hours of auction close via pay pal. Remaining balance is due within 7 days of auction close. Buyer is responsible for pick up or shipping. Vehicle will not be picked up or ship until all funds have cleared. no trades, no games.no fake checks,no B.S. I will try to answer ? each day. They don't make em' like this anymore. Enjoy camping and 20
mpg at the same time, just don't be in a hurry. |

Happy 60th to the VW Karmann Ghia
Tue, 20 Aug 2013Volkswagen's product portfolio may be as extensive these days as any other carmaker in the business. But if you still think of the original Beetle as synonymous with the brand, that's probably because a) you're old and b) the Beetle was the company's only product until the mid-50s.
Sixty years ago Wilhelm Karmann (founder of the eponymous coachbuilder) was in Paris for the auto salon and met up with Luigi Segre and his team from Carrozzeria Ghia who showed him what was essentially a "Beetle in a sports coat." A month later they showed it to Volkswagen chief Heinrich Nordhoff who, setting aside his conservative tastes, approved it for production. And so the Volkswagen Karmann Ghia was born, giving the German marque a second product line. It still used Beetle mechanicals and was built at the same Karmann factory in Onsabrück that was already assembling the Beetle Cabriolet.
It took another couple of years to put the design into production, but from 1955 to 1974, Volkswagen and Karmann built 362,601 coupes and 80,881 of the subsequent convertible that arrived in 1957. Today the Onsabrück factory is part of the VW Group, handling production of the Golf Cabriolet, XL1 and Porsche Boxster and Cayman, and with that original Karmann Ghia prototype as part of its factory collection.
Sunday Drive: Variety is the spice of life
Sun, Nov 12 2017If there's any one new vehicle the entire world is anxiously waiting for, it's the Jeep Wrangler. Yes, of course the iconic off-roader has a loyal following here in America, but you could plop a Wrangler pretty much anywhere on the globe and everybody will know what it is. Put simply, the redesigned 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL has big, muddy shoes to fill, and the readers of Autoblog are just as interested in the Wrangler's rebirth as anyone else. Moving along, we were fortunate enough last week to spend a bit of time in nearly every version of the venerable Volkswagen Golf all in one day. There isn't a Golf we don't like, but there's one, easily identifiable by its three-digit name, that stands above all the rest: GTI. We think it's the best Golf you can buy, even if there's an R-badged variant that slots above the GTI in VW hierarchy. Rounding out our recap are three vehicles that could hardly be more different. The 2019 GMC Sierra, which was seen wearing pretty light camouflage, is a truck. The Lamborghini Terzo Millennio – which isn't going to go on sale, ever, at any price – is a conceptual supercar. And the Honda CB1000R is a retro-themed naked standard motorcycle. Variety really is the spice of life. 2018 Jeep Wrangler spy shot mega gallery Driving nearly every VW Golf: Base, GTI, R, Alltrack — here's what we learned 2019 GMC Sierra spied sporting just a thin wrapping The Lamborghini Terzo Millennio is a brutally fantastic EV supercar concept Honda unveils 2 new motorcycles, including retro-flavored CB1000R Image Credit: Brian Williams GMC Honda Jeep Lamborghini Volkswagen Technology Truck Convertible Crossover Hatchback SUV Performance sunday drive vw golf gti lamborghini terzo millennio
French probe alleges 2 million PSA cars had engine cheats
Fri, Sep 8 2017PARIS — A French investigation into alleged emissions cheating by PSA Group found that suspect software had been used on almost 2 million vehicles sold by the maker of Peugeot and Citroen cars, Le Monde reported on Friday. Paris-based PSA denies any use of fraudulent engine software, a spokesman said in response to the newspaper report, which sent PSA shares sharply lower. The stock was down 4.4 percent at 17.78 euros as of 1019 GMT. So-called "defeat devices" restrict exhaust output of toxic nitrogen oxides (NOx) under regulatory test conditions while letting emissions far exceed legal limits in real-world driving. In February, PSA became the fourth carmaker to be referred to French prosecutors by the country's DGCCRF watchdog over suspected emissions test-cheating, after Volkswagen, Renault and Fiat Chrysler. PSA's engineering chief acknowledged at the time that emissions treatment in the group's diesels was deliberately reduced at higher temperatures to improve fuel efficiency and carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions in out-of-town driving, where NOx output is considered less critical. According to Le Monde, an internal PSA document obtained by DGCCRF investigators includes discussion of the need to "make the 'defeat device' aspect less obvious and visible." However PSA insists there is nothing fraudulent or illegal about its engine calibrations. "PSA denies any fraud and firmly reaffirms the pertinence of its technology decisions," the company said on Friday.
