They call me Mellow Yellow quite rightly ya!!! Talk about catching your eye, this bus is about as bright and beautiful as you can get. Completely repainted in and out, with its custom interior, bright yellow pop-top, and attention to detail, people just stop and stare. The 1967 bus is the last year of the split windshields, and first year of the 12 Volt electrical system, which makes them highly desirable. This particular bus was originally called an EZ Camper, which is why it has the larger drivers side window. The original cabinets had been removed when I
got the bus, so I replaced them with the higher quality German Westfalia cabinets and Z-Bed. I love the walk through front seats, and open, but cozy feeling inside the camper.  With comfortable seating for five, and sleeping for two, this is one the most versatile and coolest vehicles ever made.
Mechanically this bus is as good as it gets!!! It just runs and drives like a
dream. With a rebuilt 1600 dual port motor with less
than 2500 miles on it. (unfortunately I did not receive any paperwork with
the motor) The transaxle was rebuilt as well, shifts smooth and doesn't grind or pop-out of any
gears. The Front-end is tight and doesn't wander or clunk. New brakes all the
way around stops straight, with great pedal. All rolling on brand new tires
with new hub caps.
The body was exceptionally straight, rust free, and required very little bodywork before being painted. There are a few minor flaws with the bodywork, which are hardly noticeable, but I thought I should mention them. I purposely did not paint the under carriage so you can see how clean and rust free it is, including the battery tray. You have to love the way hip Westy camper interior!!!
Completely insulated with foil back insulation, new paneling, curtains,
and Bamboo floor. Retro fitted with original Westfalia cabinets, closet, table, bench,
bed and jump seat. The van just feels warm, and sounds tight going down the road.
Not to mention that it is such a classic and most importantly, looks so nice
inside and out.

to the chase and list some of highlights:

VW using other manufacturing locations as leverage in battle with TN [w/video]

Sat, 26 Apr 2014

We've reached a new step in the ongoing drama at Volkswagen's factory in Chattanooga, TN. The United Auto Workers recently dropped its opposition to the union vote and agreed that it wouldn't hold another ballot for at least a year. Now, the new question becomes where VW is going to build its forthcoming midsize SUV.
Earlier, it had been considered all but certain that the SUV, likely a production version of the CrossBlue concept (pictured above), would be built in Tennessee. However, it seems the Chattanooga factory might have competition to produce it. In emails obtained by The Detroit News, VW's lawyer wrote to the Tennessee economic development department in January saying, "While we understand there are some 'non-deal' issues that are causing a delay in the TN solution, VW has been successful in reaching agreement on terms at the alternative locations."
As previously reported, the state of Tennessee allegedly offered VW about $300 million in incentives to build the vehicle there and create an estimated 1,350 jobs, but it later rescinded the deal. Newly leaked documents from NewsChannel 5 (WTVF-TV) in Nashville allegedly show just how close that offer was to being completed. It appears that VW actually sent the government the first draft of a memorandum of understanding agreeing to the incentives, but the state removed the offer in late January.

Car companies may need to start curbing model proliferation

Mon, 17 Nov 2014

Looking at the current automotive landscape, especially from German makers, you quickly get the impression that less definitely isn't more. BMW alone offers its 3 Series platform in practically every segment possible, including the regular sedan and 4 Series Gran Coupe, which would seem to be direct competitors. Porsche might be the winner, though, with 20 different variants of the 911 listed for sale on its US website. However, some of this model madness might be reaching an end as companies begin cutting back spending or shifting money to other priorities.
According to Yahoo Finance, the offerings from the German automakers are up 25 percent over the past three years to over 200 models in Europe. The peak is expected to come around 2018 at 230 separate vehicles, according to consulting company PwC.
Amazingly, BMW, which is among the poster children for this model explosion, might be changing its tune. "I'm sure there will be points in the future where we look at certain cars and say, 'Maybe we need to think differently now,'" said head of sales Ian Robertson in an interview, according to Yahoo Finance. The statement certainly sounds shocking coming from a company rumored to have 23 front-wheel-drive vehicles all using a single platform on the way.

VW decides against active-cooling system for e-Golf lithium battery

Tue, Apr 1 2014

When the 2015 VW e-Golf was introduced at the LA Auto Show last year, VW said it would come with a water-cooled battery. During the Detroit Auto Show, when the car was trotted out again, VW released a new press release that stripped out the "water-cooled" language, but this change went unnoticed. During a recent VW event in Germany, a friend from Green Car Reports realized that the battery on display did not seem to have any water-cooling mechanisms. That set us off on a bit of a sleuthing and we have now learned that VW is not going to include any active cooling in the upcoming e-Golf. In fact, the company is entirely confident that this car - because of what it's designed to do - doesn't need it. "The need for a cooling system wasn't there" - VW's Darryll Harrison VW has been working on an electrified Golf for ages now, and so changes to the plan are to be expected. But battery cooling is vitally important not just to keep the car operating properly but because when things get too hot, there can be serious public relations problems. Nissan began testing a new battery chemistry for the Leaf in 2013 after an uproar from warm-weather EV drivers in Arizona who were experiencing worse-than-expected battery performance. The Leaf has always used an air-cooled battery, which is another way to say that there is no active cooling system (more details here). Tesla CEO Elon Musk once said this approach is "primitive." So, why is VW following the same path? We asked Darryll Harrison, VW US's manager of brand public relations west, for more information, and he told AutoblogGreen that VW engineers discovered through a lot of testing of the Golf Mk6 EV prototypes, that battery performance was not impacted by temperatures when using the right battery chemistry. That chemistry, it turns out, is lithium nickel manganese cobalt oxide (NMC) in cells from Panasonic. These cells had "the lowest self-warming tendency and the lowest memory effect of all cells tested," Harrison said. He added that VW engineers tested the NMC cells in places like Death Valley and Arizona and found they didn't warm very quickly either through operation, charging (including during fast charging) or through high ambient temps. "The need for a cooling system wasn't there," Harrison said.
