I am the second owner of the Westfalia. I've travelled with it mainly in Ontario, Quebec, and the Atlantic provinces. This Westfalia was made to enjoy life away from the city. If you choose to escape the city for a weekend or for a few moths, this is the vehicle for you. The camper has 287,000 kilometres on it. I've had to replace the transmission last year and replaced the catalytic converter. The Westfalia now drives beautifully. I also put my touches in the Westfalia like a new USB radio, hitch and curtain decorating. The camper is manual transmission and drives very smoothly. I also have 4 winter tires for the camper as well. Even though I have never driven it in the winter, the previous owner did a couple of times. The refrigerator, cooktop and sink are all operational within the camper. It also includes the popup tent (suitable for 2 people) and the side awning for those lazy afternoons or rainy picnics. Also has a popup table next to the fridge and cooktop. Both driver and passenger chairs swivel 180 degrees. It is definitely a home away from home. Don't let this camper pass you by. Volkswagen formally introduces super-efficient XL1
Mon, 04 Mar 2013Lightweight and low drag are hallmarks of great sportscar design. But when paired with a super-efficient, hybrid powertrain, you have the Volkswagen's XL1 that has been formally introduced in Geneva today.
When the 1,700-lb, carbon-fiber-bodied two-seater hits the road, its claimed 261 miles per gallon will make it the world's most-fuel-efficient production car. Though "production car" might be a stretch since VW said in a February press release that the XL1 would be built using "handcrafting-like production methods." We translate that to mean you won't be seeing many of these cars on the road. Though no one at VW has mentioned pricing yet, early rumors suggested a six-figure price tag.
That's supercar budget for a vehicle that has a 47-horsepower, two-cylinder diesel engine and a 27hp electric motor. With numbers like that, owners can expect 0-62 mph times of 12.7 seconds and top speed near 100 mph.
Car and Driver shows off awesome 1960s ads
Fri, Sep 11 2015Someone must have recently rediscovered the keys to the archives at Car and Driver, and the access has been put to good use. Following last month's fantastic look at automotive ads from the '50s, there's now a new gallery running from March 1960 through December 1969. This collection provides a great overview of a decade full of iconic cars. If you're a fan of Carroll Shelby, particularly his Mustangs, then there's a lot to love among this group. One ad from July 1965 aimed to sell the GT350, but with an ocean of text and a tiny picture, it probably could've used a once-over by Don Draper's team. By December '65, the copywriters ironed out the problems with a spot proclaiming boldly "Shelby GT350 is 'Son of Cobra.'" The company offered some great accessories, too. For those into European motoring, there's a humorous attempt to sell the Alfa Romeo Giulia as both a racecar and family hauler. Toyota also boasts about the winning record for the 2000GT. Among the best text comes from BMW for lines like: "What's BMW got? The most advanced high-performance engine in any production car, for a cruising speed of 100 mph." Of course, Volkswagen's famous "Lemon" ad for the Beetle also gets its due here. Separately, each of these ads is fascinating, but taken together they tell the story of a great decade of motoring.
