Over-all Condition
For sale is my dad's dependable TDI Beetle. It was my daily driver, but I bought my own car. The bug is awesome! The first owner was a lady. Dad is the second owner and keeps it in great condition. He is an owner/operator trucker and loves his diesels. When we got the bug, Dad mainly used it on the highway on his commute. I've also driven the car quite a bit, and I'm a girl. Dad just put new snow tires on the car around 2,000 miles ago. Miles aren't exact, as it's still being driven here and there, but after all this time it still runs with its ORIGINAL CLUTCH, STRUTS, AND SHOCKS. That's proof that the overall condition of this car is fantastic!

Good Specifics
  • Leather interior is nearly perfect.
  • Exterior is in great condition
  • Engine runs smoothly
  • Transmission works perfectly.
  • Averages 43 mpg. Doesn't seem to matter how you drive it.
  • Top of the engine replaced at about 140,000 miles (due to water pump quitting, allowing the timing belt to jump)
  • Timing belt kit replaced at 218,648 miles
  • Serpentine belt replaced at 218,648 miles
  • Vacuum line replaced at 218,648 miles
  • Glow plug wire harness replaced at 218,648 miles
  • 2 wire connectors replaced at 218,648 miles
  • Power supply relay replaced at 218,648 miles
  • New snow tires put on around 2,000 miles ago
  • Hitch is installed (Use for small hauls)
  • Smoke free
  • Odor free
  • Pa inspection good through 8-14
  • Registration good through 9-14
  • Original clutch
  • Original shocks
  • Original struts

Bad Specifics
  • Normal wear and tear
  • Leather - tiny cut on the driver seat, and some wear on the driver's seat (pictured) and around the gearshift (pictured).
  • Exterior - tiny dent on the bottom left side rocker panel I think and a missing inner fender. Some minor chips and scratches. Check out the pictures. It's not bad. I'm just being thorough. One pictured paint chip about the size of a small piece of gravel (pictured)
  • Gear linkage could use lubrication or something. Sometimes it's hard to shift into first gear.
  • Shocks and struts work fine, but you may want to replace them for a smoother ride.
  • It hasn't been a problem lately, but in the interest of full disclosure sometimes a small lever (I forget what it's called, but I'll show you.) in the engine sticks and prevents the car from starting. If you wiggle the lever the car starts right up. If you keep it oiled you should have no problem
  • Hitch is starting to rust (pictured) but can easily be removed.
  • AC lost its charge. We have the part to fix it, but Dad wasn't able to do the work.
  • Headliner is beginning to sag around the console, but not badly. (pictured)
  • Again, I am NOT a mechanic. I tried to represent the car thoroughly, but please come see it to judge for yourself. (Due to weather, I didn't get all the bug specks, etc off the car before taking pictures. As I said, it is still driven. Please keep that in mind when looking at the pictures.) Thanks, and happy bidding!

Last VW bus ever made arrives at final destination

Fri, 31 Jan 2014

A Brazilian politician tried to save it, unsuccessfully, so the final Last Edition Volkswagen Type 2 Kombi was produced on December 20, 2013 and now resides in a vintage museum at Volkswagen's Commercial Vehicles HQ in Hanover, Germany.
The Volkswagen Microbus was built for 56 years, starting in September 1957. Brazil was the last country still assembling it, but new safety regulations in the country requiring airbags and ABS on all cars spelled the end. When that politician introduced a bill that would pardon only the 'Bus from a death sentence, it couldn't garner the required number of votes for passage. The South American country takes the Kombi production title, though, with 1.5 million of the 3.5 million total made in the home of Copacabana beach and the girl from Ipanema.
The VW Bus is dead. Now perhaps we can turn our attentions to the still-not-totally-settled matter of the Bulli...

Small 3-row crossover SUVs specifications compared on paper

Thu, May 10 2018

There's no shortage of three-row vehicles on the market for carrying seven or more people and their stuff wherever they all need to go. Just about every car company has at least one large crossover or traditional SUV with three rows of seats, and there are still plenty of minivans to pick from. But most of these vehicles are large, pricey, and frequently thirsty. Fortunately, there are still a handful of smaller crossovers that deliver 7-passenger capability in a smaller, cheaper package. We've gathered four of the small three-row set here to compare them based on space, power, fuel economy, pricing, and more. They include the very old Dodge Journey, the slightly less old Mitsubishi Outlander and Kia Sorento, and the relatively new Volkswagen Tiguan. You can see the raw numbers in the chart below, followed by a more detailed breakdown and some notes on how we like each of these vehicles. For in-depth opinions on the vehicles, be sure to check out our full reviews, and if you want to compare these with other vehicles, try out our comparison tools. Engines, transmissions and performance Interestingly, three of the four crossovers here utilize similar engines for their four-cylinder offerings. The Dodge, Kia and Mitsubishi all feature naturally aspirated 2.4-liter four-cylinder engines. Only the Volkswagen Tiguan chooses turbocharging and a smaller 2.0-liter displacement. But because of its turbocharger, the Tiguan's four-cylinder is easily the most potent, making a healthy 221 pound-feet of torque, which is more than 40 more than the Sorento, the crossover with the next most torque. The VW is also second-most powerful, just one horse behind the Sorento. The Outlander is the least powerful in the four-cylinder class. The Journey is only barely better, but it will probably feel as slow or worse thanks to its ancient 4-speed automatic. The four-cylinder Sorento and Outlander each have 6-speed automatic transmissions, and the VW has an 8-speed. The Sorento with a V6 has an 8-speed, too. View 17 Photos Moving up to the V6 class, the Outlander is once again at the bottom. It actually makes less torque than the turbo VW Tiguan. The Journey and Sorento are almost perfectly matched. The Journey makes a bit more torque; the Sorento makes a bit more power. The Journey also gets upgraded to a 6-speed automatic. Another powertrain consideration to bare in mind is whether all-wheel-drive is necessary.

2015 Volkswagen Touran is the Euro MPV exemplified [w/video]

Wed, Mar 4 2015

Among the vehicles Volkswagen doesn't sell in the United States, we retain a soft spot for the tiny Touran MPV. Five doors, a reasonably sized trunk, clean sheet metal and an attractive cabin is an appealing combo, after all, regardless of the form factor. For the 2015 Geneva Motor Show, VW updated the popular compact van for European audiences. Like the Golf-inspired styling of the second-generation model, the popular hatchback's looks are clearly evident in the third-generation Touran. The Golf's small upper character line is more dramatic on the van, although the general taillight and headlight shapes are remarkably similar. The grille, meanwhile, is more Passat than anything else, with a conservative three-bar design. The R-Line model gets more dramatic front and rear bumpers, with black accents on the former and a pair of chromed exhaust tips jutting out underneath the latter. The cabin is typical of Volkswagen, with handsome materials throughout. Piano black is the dominant accent material, found on the dash and steering wheel, while the leather-wrapped steering wheel and hide seats both look like nice enough. Check out our full gallery of images of the new, third-generation Touran from the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. Volkswagen presents the new Touran - Germany's best-selling MPV completely redeveloped - More room; smart new design - New engines up to 19 per cent more economical Volkswagen presents the new Touran. The completely redesigned MPV was showcased before an audience of international media representatives at the Autostadt in Wolfsburg, not far from the production site where the popular family car is made. The interior of the new model has undergone a significant increase in size and is highly configurable. Refinements have been made all around the vehicle, which boasts a range of six new economical engines and an extensive line-up of assistance and infotainment systems. The public premiere of the new Touran will take place in the coming week at the Geneva motor show. Prof. Dr. Martin Winterkorn, Chairman of the Board of Management of Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft, explained: "As one of the most successful family cars in the world with 1.9 million units sold, the Touran is indisputably Germany's top MPV.
