This Bug Is Vintage To The Bone on 2040-cars
Stockton, California, United States
Thanks for checking out my ad! I'm the second owner of this mostly original, stock, vintage, California,1964 Bug. You can use it as a daily driver or drive her just on the weekends and to the car shows as I have been doing. She's not perfect but she's pretty darn close! Be prepared to get compliments and questions from those that see her. The original floor pan is solid and has zero rust. She starts every time and drives smoothly and with plenty of power. I installed a newly rebuilt 1600 dual port engine and I've put less than 4000 miles on it. It also has a new .009 distributor with electronic ignition, plus all new, carburetor, oil pump, oil cooler, dog house tins, and fuel pump. It's been converted to a 12 volt system with new starter, head light buckets and bulbs and a new 12 volt battery. She's got new tires, and the tranny, shocks and brakes are in excellent condition. My mechanic told me once that the heater isn't hooked up but since I never drive her when it's cold or raining I never bothered to do it. To maintain that vintage style I left the 8-track player in the dash but it's not hooked up(it's a 6 volt). I put in a new 4-1/2" two-way speaker in the dash, an amp and plug for an Ipod ( Ipod is NOT INCLUDED ) to listen to while cruising. The interior is in overall excellent, clean condition (I'm a non-smoker). There are no tears or rips in the original seats or door panels. The original headliner does show some patina but is in tact. Carpets are original and still in great shape but just slightly on the thin side. The floor mats are new. I have put new VW rubber pads on the clutch and brake pedals. The exterior paint does have some minor wear and chips but these aren't noticable (see photo) and only add to the patina. The luggage rack is included with the car as well as the mud flaps and the cheese grater on the exhaust pipes. The window scraper on the driver's door does need to be replaced (see photo) but all other rubber is in good condition. The winning bidder will also get a brand new pair of all steel 2-1/2" dropped spindles that I got from California Imports (a $100.00 value) and never got around to installing, also some new interior door handles and window cranks, and even a custom fit car-cover!!! I hope you contact me if you have any questions and they will be gladly answered. The winning bidder is responsible for pick-up and or transportation after payment by cashier's check or money order is received and verified. Good luck and happy bidding! On Apr-24-14 at 14:47:51 PDT, seller added the following information: I listed the engine as dual port but it is actually the more reliable single port engine. All the mechanics and electrical were done by Jim's VW Repair in Lodi, CA. I;m sorry for any confusion I may have caused. |

VW Up Buggy may be headed to showrooms
Tue, 02 Jul 2013Volkswagen showed six conceptual takes on its Up at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show, one of those being the Up Buggy. Although few will probably remember it, VW has not forgotten it, applying for a patent for the Meyers Manx revival roadster way back in March 2012 and being approved in June of this year, according to a report in Autocar. That will give the automaker a 14-year lock on the design while it decides whether to move forward with a reboot of its past.
A patent doesn't mean the Up Buggy will ever move beyond the sheet-of-paper stage, but Autocar says VW is studying the market to see if a production version is feasible. We can't see North America ever getting it, but even so, we wouldn't complain if they made it - especially if they put an exposed engine in back that was set off by 18-inch-long twin tailpipes jutting straight up into the air. However, for a company that aims to be the world's number-one automaker by 2018, a niche vehicle for its mass-market brand would be a surprising use of resources.
VW using other manufacturing locations as leverage in battle with TN [w/video]
Sat, 26 Apr 2014We've reached a new step in the ongoing drama at Volkswagen's factory in Chattanooga, TN. The United Auto Workers recently dropped its opposition to the union vote and agreed that it wouldn't hold another ballot for at least a year. Now, the new question becomes where VW is going to build its forthcoming midsize SUV.
Earlier, it had been considered all but certain that the SUV, likely a production version of the CrossBlue concept (pictured above), would be built in Tennessee. However, it seems the Chattanooga factory might have competition to produce it. In emails obtained by The Detroit News, VW's lawyer wrote to the Tennessee economic development department in January saying, "While we understand there are some 'non-deal' issues that are causing a delay in the TN solution, VW has been successful in reaching agreement on terms at the alternative locations."
As previously reported, the state of Tennessee allegedly offered VW about $300 million in incentives to build the vehicle there and create an estimated 1,350 jobs, but it later rescinded the deal. Newly leaked documents from NewsChannel 5 (WTVF-TV) in Nashville allegedly show just how close that offer was to being completed. It appears that VW actually sent the government the first draft of a memorandum of understanding agreeing to the incentives, but the state removed the offer in late January.
Volkswagen's De Silva says next Scirocco will be 'completely different'
Tue, 02 Apr 2013From our perspective, the reborn Volkswagen Scirocco is a handsome (if squat) little thing. Yet design-wise, it's always struck us as uncomfortably close to the Golf three-door hatchback with which it shares its basic underpinnings. That aesthetic kinship may be part of the reason why Volkswagen has steadfastly refused to import the Scirocco to North America, seeing as how the Golf doesn't regularly set the company's sales charts alight, and it's less expensive.
But that visual similarity might be about to change, says Walter De Silva, who recently told Australia's Car Advice that, "It must be completely different... we don't want to repeat the bodystyle of the Scirocco, we want to change that." Further, the Volkswagen Group's design boss says that the next-generation car isn't terribly far along in development yet - "at the moment, it's only a studio [project]... it's not defined." It's probably just as well, as the new seventh-generation Golf arguably borrows some of its design from the current Scirocco anyway.
So we should expect a much bolder, more differentiated design, right? Well, yes, no and maybe. Back in September, De Silva himself was quoted as saying that the era of flamboyant styling has passed, and that future VW designs will be simpler to better reflect the times and preserve resale value. So... how different could it be?
