CALIFORNIA CAR - RESTORED - NO RUST - RUNS GREAT - READY TO DRIVE
This beauty of a Bug was a pan-off rebuild and restore in 1990 by a San Francisco Bay Area beetle maniac. I acquired it in 1998 and had it as my daily driver until 2001, when I moved back to the midwest. Since then it has spent winters in the garage and summers driving country roads on the weekend. It has never touched salt and has no rust, including common troublespots like underbody, wheel wells and heat exchangers. It has 49,000 miles since the rebuild.
The car is built as stock including six-volt electronics. Some like to convert to 12v but I chose to keep it stock. It does have a 1600cc engine from 1968 instead of the stock 1300 but that's the only real change. I have a clean title to sign over to the buyer.
I recently cleaned and tuned the carburetor and it starts right up with the key, holds a great idle and runs like a champ. It goes up to 80 mph on the freeway and with a bit more tuning could hit high 80s.
In the last couple years the car has also had:
-Five new tires! Good clean rubber, hardly worn and in great shape
-New ignition system including coil, plugs, cap, points, rotor and cables
-New fuel system components including engine-compartment lines, filters and fuel pump
-New brakes including four new drums, all new pads and new or rebuilt wheel cylinders
-New battery this spring, with included 6V Battery Tender for winter storage
-Rebuilt carburetor
The car does have some minor body damage including some rubbed-off paint, a minor dent and a squished-in front end. Also the handbrake cable is currently broken and needs to be replaced. One photo shows a black front wheel - the spare happens to be on there, the white wheel is included, see images at link. That's it.

FCA to pay buyers $1,700 to swap out of scandal-mired VWs
Tue, Oct 6 2015FCA is trying to gain some sales from arch-rival VW in the competitive European market by offering potential buyers in Italy up to $1,700 to swap into an FCA group car. While the promotion isn't specifically targeted at TDI owners affected by the emissions scandal, it is clearly intended to turn dissatisfaction with VW's defeat device cheat into additional sales, Bloomberg reports. The 500-1,500 euro incentive (roughly $560-1,700, depending on vehicle) stacks on top of any other rebates or deals applicable, and applies if a buyer brings in any of Volkswagen Group's cars – including Audi, Skoda, and SEAT, among (many) others. As Bloomberg notes, it's normal for automakers to offer "conquest" deals – giving a buyer cash for trading in a competitor's vehicle. Those deals aren't usually limited to one company's products, however; FCA's program looks specifically to take advantage of VW's legal and public relations nightmare. FCA isn't the only automaker trying this trick in Italy. Automotive News Europe also reported that Ford is offering approximately $840 in incentives across its entire range to owners of VW vehicles seeking to trade in for a Ford. No word of yet as to whether these incentives will spread beyond Italy or to other automakers.Related Video:
VW fix would have cost $335 per vehicle
Wed, Sep 30 2015Since the Volkswagen diesel kerfuffle began, Bosch, the world's largest auto supplier, has been hooked up to a bullhorn trying to make sure everyone knows its side of the story. Bosch supplied VW with the engine management testing software, including delivery and metering modules, that VW then used to skirt emissions laws in the US. Bosch told VW in 2007 that it was illegal to use the software in cars it planned to sell yet VW did it anyway, according to reports coming out in German newspapers Bild am Sonntag and Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. That first warning came two years after VW started developing the small-displacement diesel, around the time that the two men pushing its development, then-brand chief Wolfgang Bernhard and engineer Rudolf Krebs, were telling their superiors that the engine needed AdBlue urea injection to pass US emissions. VW cost controllers wouldn't approve the AdBlue solution because it would add 300 euros ($335 US) to the cost of the vehicle. Bernhard and Krebs left the same year that Bosch advised VW about the software, two years before the engine went into production. That's when things get cloudy. A report in Automotive News says that when Martin Winterkorn took over in 2007 as head of the VW Group and brand, he asked Ulrich Hackenberg and Wolfgang Hatz to keep working on the engine, and "[the] engine then ended up in VW Group diesels" with that problematic software still intact. No one has yet pointed any fingers at this latter chain of command, but like a game of Clue, right now they're the professors in the library holding the candlesticks. Warnings didn't only come from the supplier: Frankfurter says VW's initial investigation has found that an engineer issued the same caution to the company in 2011. Neither Bosch nor VW would comment on the reports.
