THESE NEW BEETLES ARE ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC CARS. THE BEST SMALL CAR I'VE EVER DRIVEN. THEY FEEL LIKE A MID-SIZE CAR INSIDE; THEY'RE FUEL EFFICIENT WITHOUT BEING GUTLESS; THEY'RE SOLID; AND VOLKSWAGENS ARE THE MOST REASONABLY PRICED GERMAN CARS! I LIKE THEM SO MUCH THAT I BOUGHT 2 OF THEM. I ALSO OWN MINI COOPERS AND A FIAT 500. THE NEW 2012 STYLE BEETLE IS THE OVERALL BEST IN MY OPINION.
DESCRIPTION: 2012 VOLKSWAGEN BEETLE 2.5L AUTOMATIC. I PURCHASED THIS CAR NEW AT LEWISVILLE VOLKSWAGEN IN THE DALLAS AREA, MAY 3, 2012 AS A BRAND NEW CAR.
YES, CAR IS BLUETOOTH EQUIPPED
I IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWED MY LONG-STANDING TRADITION OF IMPROVING ON THE FACTORY BUILD.
SPECIFICALLY:
1) I TOOK THE BLACK FINISHED "HERITAGE" WHEELS (WHICH BY THE WAY ARE NOW NO LONGER AVAILABLE ON LATE '13s AND '14s) AND SENT THEM OUT TO BE TRIPLE CHROME PLATED. WHEN THEY GOT BACK I LIKED THE LOOK OF THE BASIC HERITAGE WHEEL, SO I FOUND A SUITABLE CENTER CAP FROM ANOTHER TYPE OF VW WHEEL, AND SHOW THE CAR THIS WAY. I DO HAVE THE LARGE CENTER CAPS AND TRIM RINGS. BUT, MY RATIONALE IS WHY PUT PLASTIC CHROME PLATED STUFF OVER CHROMED ALUMINUM WHEELS, PARTICULARLY WHEN THEY LOOK LIKE THIS!
2) INSTALLED RETRO WIDE-WHITEWALL RADIAL TIRES. THEY ARE THE "REAL" THING, NOT SOME BUFFED OR GRAFTED ON WHITEWALL. THEY'RE FROM AMERICAN CLASSICS OF COKER TIRE.
3) TOOK THE FLAT BLACK PLASTIC CENTER FRONT GRILLE, AND SIDE CORNERING LIGHT ASSEMBLIES (THE SIDE GRILLES) AND HAD THEM CHROME PLATED. NOT CHROME SPRAY PAINT, THESE ARE THE REAL THING. CHROME PLATED BY THE ONE COMPANY IN THE USA THAT'LL DO IT. MEGABUCKS!
4) FACTORY CHROME MIRROR CAPS WEREN'T AVAILABLE, NEITHER WERE CHROME DOOR HANDLES. THESE WERE ALSO CHROME PLATED. THEY'RE NOT STICK ON TOPPERS. THEY'RE THE REAL, VW THING. ONLY BETTER, 'CAUSE THEY'RE CHROME PLATED.
5) CHROME VW FACTORY EXHAUST FINISHERS;
6) CHROME "AIR SCOOPS" (AS A NOD TO THE ORIGINAL VW BEETLES)
7) CHROME VOLKSWAGEN SCRIPT AND CHROME BEETLE SCRIPT. EACH ONE OF THESE EMBLEMS IS $60
8) CAR ALSO HAS FACTORY MONSTER MATS, CARGO BLOCKS, CARGO COMPARTMENT MAT, FIRST AID KIT.
9) I HAD TO ADD THE FACTORY CENTER ARMREST BETWEEN THE SEATS; NON-TURBOS DIDN'T COME WITH IT; THAT COST $600.00!
10) CAR HAS "VIN ETCH" WHERE PARTS ARE ETCHED WITH THE VIN (ANTI-THEFT)
WHAT IT COST:
SELLING PRICE OF CAR: $22149.00
CHROME PLATING OF WHEELS: $1500.00
WIDE WHITEWALL TIRES: $1500.00
CHROME PLATING OF FRONT END PARTS AND MIRRORS/DOOR HANDLES: $2000.00
CHROME EMBLEMS: $260.00 CENTER ARMREST $600.00
THIS CAR COST $28,009.00 TO BUILD LIKE THIS.
I'LL SELL IT FOR $19,900.00
THAT'S $8,109.00 LESS THAN IT COST ME; AND JUST SIMPLY BECAUSE IT'S A 2012. THE CONDITION IS EVERY BIT AS "NEW" AS A 2014 ON YOUR DEALER'S FLOOR RIGHT NOW.
SO NO, I WON'T SELL IT FOR WHOLESALE BOOK. IT'S NOT A WHOLESALE PIECE; IT'S NOT A COMMON USED BEETLE. BLUEBOOK AVERAGES DON'T APPLY TO CUSTOMIZED CARS. THE PERSON WHO'LL BUY THIS CAR WILL UNDERSTAND THAT.
TERMS & CONDITIONS: YOU SHOULD READ IT SO THERE ARE NO MISUNDERSTANDINGS!
1) PRICE IS FOR THE CAR, AND DOES NOT INCLUDE ANY APPLICABLE TAXES, TITLE TRANSFER FEES, REGISTRATION OR LICENSE FEES.
2) VEHICLE IS SOLD STRICTLY "AS-IS" AND "WHERE-IS". I AM A PRIVATE PERSON SELLING HIS OWN PERSONAL VEHICLE. THIS VEHICLE STILL HAS A VALID FACTORY VOLKSWAGEN WARRANTY; THE REMAINDER OF 3 YR/ 36,000 MILES. DELIVERY DATE WAS 05/03/12; CURRENT MILES ARE 4,300. YOU CAN DO THE MATH. VW EXTENDED WARRANTIES ARE EASY TO BUY AND A GREAT THING; IF YOU WANT TO EXTEND THE WARRANTY AT A GOOD COST I CAN PUT YOU IN CHARGE WITH A NICE GUY AT THE VW DEALERSHIP I BOUGHT THE CAR FROM.
3) I WARRANT THE CAR HAS HAD ABSOLUTELY NO DAMAGE DURING MY OWNERSHIP OF IT. (REMEMBER IT WAS BOUGHT BRAND NEW). NO ACCIDENTS, HAIL, FLOOD, FIRE, ETC. THE CARFAX WILL TESTIFY TO THAT. BESIDES THAT STATEMENT, I MAKE NO GUARANTEE TO THE BUYER; THE FACTORY I STILL ON THE HOOK FOR THAT!
4) VEHICLE MUST BE PAID FOR WITHIN 7 DAYS (TOTAL DAYS, NOT BUSINESS DAYS) OF YOUR DECISION TO BUY-IT-NOW.
5) PAYMENT MUST BE BY BANK WIRE TRANSFER OR BANK CASHIER'S CHECK ON KNOWN BANK.
6) VW CREDIT HOLDS TITLE TO THE VEHICLE. SO HERE'S HOW IT WORKS; YOU'LL PAY FOR THE CAR; WHEN YOUR MONEY CLEARS MY BANK YOU TAKE THE CAR; WE'LL HAVE A NOTARIZED AGREEMENT WHICH STATES THAT YOU'LL GET THE TITLE AS SOON AS I HAVE RECEIVED IT FROM VW CREDIT. ALL LEGAL AND UPFRONT. ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT THAT CALL ME. NEED A REFERENCE THAT I'M A PERSON OF INTEGRITY? NO PROBLEM. GLAD TO SUPPLY IT.
7) VEHICLE IS LOCATED AT HORSESHOE BAY, TEXAS. JUST ONE HOUR WEST OF AUSTIN IN BEAUTIFUL HIGHLAND LAKES AREA OF THE HILL COUNTRY. HORSESHOE BAY IS A WORLD-CLASS OUTDOOR RECREATION RESORT COMMUNITY. GREAT GOLF, TENNIS, BOATING. WE HAVE A MARRIOTT RESORT IN THIS SMALL TOWN OF 5000.
IF YOU WANT ME TO PERSONALLY DELIVER THE CAR, THAT'S NOT ENTIRELY OUT OF THE QUESTION; IT DEPENDS ON WHERE YOU LIVE AND WHAT I'D HAVE TO CHARGE YOU. VEHICLE WOULD OF COURSE HAVE TO BE PAID FOR FIRST, AND YOU WOULD HAVE TO INSURE IT ON YOUR POLICY. WE CAN TALK ABOUT DELIVERY IF NEED BE.
ONE FINAL NOTE: THERE ALWAYS SEEM TO BE SOME PEOPLE OUT THERE WHO FEEL IT'S THEIR BIRTHRIGHT TO COMMENT (UNSOLICITED) ON WHY THEY FEEL A SELLER'S PRICE IS TOO HIGH. TO THOSE FOLKS I SAY THIS; KEEP YOUR OPINIONS TO YOURSELF; I'VE BEEN IN THE CAR BUSINESS FOR 4 DECADES NOW AND........"I'VE HEARD IT ALL BEFORE". BOTTOM LINE IS, IT'S MY CAR, AND THE PRICE LISTED IS WHAT IT IS. IF YOU WANT TO PLAY WHOLESALER, GO GET YOUR DEALER'S LICENSE AND GO TO A WHOLESALE AUTO AUCTION. THIS IS A CAR THAT WILL BE SOLD ON A RETAIL BASIS.

VW recalls 220,000 Atlases, Atlas Cross Sports for airbag defect [Updated]
Thu, Mar 31 2022[Update: Audi of America has confirmed that no U.S. models are among the recall population for plug-in hybrid fire issue.] Volkswagen has issued yet another recall for its Atlas SUV, this time for side airbags that may not deploy correctly in an accident due to a problematic connection in one of the vehicle's wiring harnesses. The campaign covers 222,892 Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport models built for the 2019-2023 model years. The issue stems from a connection with the wiring harness that runs from the A-pillar into the door. VW says that harnesses produced by one of its suppliers were not built with additional measures to prevent movement at the connection point. Small movements can cause abrasion of the metal contacts which could lead to a whole host of electronic misadventures, including the potential for airbag deployment to be delayed in a crash. "Micro-movement of the wire harness (terminal A-Pillar to front door) can result in damage to the wire terminal surface. Damage to the surface can [result] in fretting corrosion which may cause sporadic interruption in the electrical connection to the components of the front door," VW said in its defect notice. "The airbag warning light may illuminate if a malfunction is detected. Other symptoms of a sporadic interruption of the affected electrical connection can be: inadvertent rolling down windows, inadvertent park brake engagement at low speeds (below approx. 3km/h or 1.8mph), warning regarding faulty door sensor," VW said. Not every model built within the range defined above is subject to the recall; terminals from other suppliers were manufactured with the necessary safeguards in place. If you own a 2019-2023 Atlas or Atlas Cross Sport, keep your eyes peeled for a notification from VW regarding the campaign, likely some time in early-mid May. PHEV problems Across the Atlantic, the VW Group mothership confirmed that it will recall more than 100,000 plug-in hybrid models worldwide to address a fire risk. The recall was launched in response to 16 reported incidents of fires stemming from insufficient insulation of the PHEV battery pack that allows the engine cover to make contact if it is not completely secure. If that happens, the heat from the battery can ignite the engine cover. The recall will cover PHEVs build by VW, Audi, Seat and Skoda, Reuters reports, including the VW Passat, Golf, Tiguan and Arteon — plug-in variants of which are not sold in the United States.
When Android Automotive goes in the dash, Google wins — and automakers lose data
Tue, May 22 2018You've gotta hand it to Google for the way the Silicon Valley tech giant has made indelible inroads into the car on multiple fronts. The most obvious is with its pioneering self-driving car technology that's caused car companies to get their act together on autonomous vehicles — and also collaborate with Google. Google has more directly extended its influence and data-mining capabilities into the car with its Android Auto smartphone-projection platform that most major automakers have adopted along with Apple's CarPlay. And now it's preparing to dig even deeper into dashboards by deploying its open-source operating system, Android Automotive, beginning with Audi and Volvo. Volvo recently announced that its next-generation Sensus infotainment system will run Android Automotive as an OS and include Google's Play Store for cloud-based content, Maps for navigation and Google Assistant for voice recognition, which can even command a car's climate control. By embedding Google in the dash, Volvo says owners will get an improved connected experience. "Bringing Google services into Volvo cars will accelerate innovation in connectivity and boost our development in applications and connected services," Volvo senior vice president of R&D Henrik Green said in a statement. "Soon, Volvo drivers will have direct access to thousands of in-car apps that make daily life easier and the connected in-car experience more enjoyable." Having Android Automotive onboard could benefit drivers — and provide a big win for Google, since it opens a deep and lucrative new data-mining vein for the company. But it's a wave of a white flag for car companies when it comes to delivering their own cloud-based content and services. It also represents a massive data giveaway and, for Audi, a reversal of earlier reservations about letting Google get too much access to car data. Not long after Android Auto and Apple CarPlay were introduced in 2014 and most automakers eagerly embraced the technologies, several German automakers second-guessed their decision when they realized what was at stake: data. At a conference in Berlin in 2015, Audi CEO Rupert Stadler said car owners "want to be in control of their data, and not subject to monitoring." A few months earlier, Stadler stated that "the data that we collect is our data and not Google's.
Did Lexus make a BMW? Or did BMW make a Lexus? This and other 2017 surprises
Fri, Dec 29 2017It's that time of year again. The calendar is about to reach its end, Star Trek Cats 2018 is about to take its place, and I'm reflecting about all the cars that graced my driveway this year or summoned me to exotic places. You know, like Stuttgart or Phoenix. In 2017, I drove at least 57, and as I perused the list of them, I started to notice a common refrain: "This car surprised me." Most were pleasant surprises, but there were a few head scratchers and facepalms for good measure. In both cases, it was generally the result of car companies seemingly trying to break out of an existing mold. Nowhere was that more apparent than the pair of Lexuses slathered in Infrared paint: The LS 500 that left me this week and the LC 500 that was my favorite car of 2017. Though Lexus has been trying to shake its crusty, gold-packaged reputation for some time now, its efforts always seemed like an old man choosing Hollister to redo his wardrobe after realizing it hasn't been updated since 1987. I fell in love with the LC, genuinely floored by its near-perfect take on the GT. It's characterful in sound, appearance and tactility. It was at home in the city, in the mountain and on the open road. It was both comfortable and thrilling, and after driving the mechanically related LS 500, I can report that the LC's talents aren't an outlier. The LS 500's turbo V6 may make different noises than the LC's naturally aspirated V8, but it nevertheless invigorates the cabin when the car is placed in Sport+ mode. The steering is truly communicative, body motions are kept in miraculous check, and I absolutely forgot I was in an enormous luxury limo ... and a Lexus one at that. It was everything that the BMW 530e was not. I drove that on the exact same roads and was utterly bored the entire time. Generally doughy, lifeless steering, more distant than Planet 9. And no, the plug-in hybrid powertrain had nothing to do with that. At least it shouldn't. The Porsche Panamera S e-Hybrid I also drove this year proves that, as do the Hyundai Ioniqs, which are surprisingly adept and fun little cars regardless of what powers their wheels (Hyundai + hybrid = fun really blew me away). I would drive that Lexus LS F Sport over the BMW 5 Series any day of the week, which seems like a shocking thing to say in relation to either car. While Lexus is seemingly breaking out of its old crusty mold, BMW seems to be climbing into one.
