Superb weather stripping, glass, chrome, clean engine bay, trunk, undercarriage, and a dashboard that looks almost factory fresh (even the clock still works!). All this makes for a gorgeous classic VW Bug Cabriolet that is a true time machine to walk around and to sit in. A restored car can never compare to one that has the original feel and finish. But a few well-considered, modern touches make it BETTER to DRIVE than in ’79! Newer features that enhance performance, appearance, safety and driving fun include: · Pioneer CD Stereo · Enlarged and Rebuilt BIG-BORE MOTOR: 1835cc with 2-barrel Weber carb. The 1979 Cabriolets, hand-finished by Karmann with an extra measure of quality, are the most sought after vintage of all…This car (built in October 1979) is representative of “the last of the last”. A true piece of automotive history. I am listing this car (along with some others) for my good friend. Impending hip and back surgery prevent him from enjoying his lovely Bug fully, and financial considerations are forcing him to let it go. It is a stunningly maintained example of a timeless classic, ready to drive anywhere, preserve for the future, or drive just to car shows. Cruises comfortably at 65 mph. The only flaw I could find is a small tear in the convertible top that has been carefully heat-welded shut to seal it up. It’s hard to see unless you look for it (I highlighted it for you in photo #38 of the 100 available on the link below). The top is otherwise perfect, and goes up & down easily, seals very well, and looks neat tucked under its tonneau when folded. This car is nearly as clean underneath as it is on top. More attention has been lavished upon this car over the years than might be considered sane by many people, but no one can argue with the results. To ensure there would be no worries for a new buyer, this car just returned from a visit with a certified mechanic specializing in air-cooled VWs for a final service and thorough "going-over" (almost $700). He pronounced it, “The best I have seen!” IT NEEDS NOTHING EXCEPT a DRIVER! NO DISAPPOINTMENT HERE! 100 pictures, showing close details, engine and chassis, available at: Please look closely at all the pics, and you will notice details like the plastic plugs where rust-proofing was applied to inner panels; the excellent paint finish and chrome on the entire car; the clean clear speedo and clock; the condition of components like tires, brake lines, and brake master cylinder; the amazing original finish on even the gas cap; and the shiny clean crevices behind the bumpers and around all the rubber grommets and trim – It’s amazing! And these are the small things that will always make this VeeDub stand head and shoulders above another. Once again: Not the cheapest, but the best!

Recharge Wrap-Up: Tesla, CarCharging and the EPA
Sat, Aug 23 2014Credit Suisse analysts are bullish on Tesla. The group gives the electric car company's stock an "outperform" rating with a target price of $325. For its continued success, Credit Suisse cites the vehicles' superior technology, in turn offering more torque, roominess and reliability. Says analyst Dan Galves said of Tesla's competition with ICEs, "If Tesla can get to cost-parity with Internal Combustion vehicles and still offer $1,400 to $2,500 per year fuel savings to the consumer, it won't be a fair fight." Read more at Yahoo Finance or at Business Insider. In other Tesla news, Tesla Model S owners will be able to unlock and start their car using an iPhone. The Tesla app is adding this functionality soon, perhaps with the update to iOS 8. It's not yet clear how this function will work, but it's one more innovative convenience feature that Model S owners can enjoy. That means drivers will have less to carry in their pockets or purses when they go for a drive. Read more at 9 to 5 Mac. CarCharging Group has remotely lowered the amperage on some of its residential users' Blink charging stations to 24 amps. This will slow down the charging time for affected customers with 6.6-kilowatt charging by about 15 percent. The company cited safety reasons for the move, with concerns about overheating. The amperage reduction is temporary, until CarCharging is able to provide replacement parts for the chargers. Some are concerned about the delayed action, as well as the fact that the reduction was handled without owner permission. Read more at Plugin Cars. Ford is halting test drives and sales of certain C-Max hybrid and Focus models due to a safety concern. Cars made during a single week this month at a Michigan factory may not have enough ball bearings in the steering gear assembly, which could lead to loss of control. None of the affected cars have been sold, Ford says, and about 50 units are currently at dealerships. Just over 600 will need to be recalled. Dealerships have been notified of the problem. Read more at Reuters and the The Detroit News. A new EPA report shows that urban air in the US is becoming less toxic since the Clean Air Act Amendments of 1990. The report shows a 66-percent reduction in benzene, almost 60 percent reduction in mercury from man-made sources, 84 percent less lead and more.
UAW tactics called into question at VW's TN plant
Thu, 26 Sep 2013The United Auto Workers is in hot water with some of the very workers it is trying to unionize at Volkswagen's Chattanooga assembly plant. According to The Tennessean, eight Volkswagen factory workers have filed complaints against the UAW with the National Labor Relations Board, claiming the union "misled or coerced" them into formally asking for union representation.
The UAW has instituted a major push at the Chattanooga plant to represent the 2,500 hourly laborers that build the VW Passat by using what's called a card-check process. The tactic is opposed by the National Right to Work Legal Defense foundation, the group representing the workers. The card-check process demands that a company recognize a union that obtains the signatures of more than half its workforce, according to The Tennessean. This tactic is in contrast to the more traditional route, which sees employees vote on union representation.
The workers filing the complaint claim that the UAW told them the cards merely called for a secret ballot, rather than an outright demand for union representation. Workers also allege that the UAW has made it overly difficult to reclaim their signed cards, some of which were signed so long ago that they have been rendered invalid. Although the cards can force a company's hand, federal law still allows the company to ask for a secret ballot before yielding to unionized workers.
VW readying CC Shooting Brake?
Mon, 11 Feb 2013This was bound to happen. Volkswagen's relentless drive for big volume has the brand mining seemingly every niche it can find for additional sales worldwide. And with its CLS Shooting Brake, fellow countryman Mercedes-Benz has already shown that a wagon based off of a "four-door coupe" can look dead sexy and command extra dollars. So it follows that the Volkswagen CC (whose existence is all but directly attributable to the success of the original CLS sedan) will also get a load-lugging variant. That's according to the UK's Autocar, which notes that the five-door will come in the CC's next generation.
According to the report, the next CC will be available in front and all-wheel drive variants with the usual assortment of gas and diesel four-cylinders found in the Wolfsburg empire, with the possibility of a gas plug-in hybrid model, too. The rakish estate will ride atop VW's MQB architecture, a shorter variant of which is also found underneath the new Golf. The scalable chassis is set to spread like kudzu throughout the company's lineup, but the CC probably won't happen until after the launch of the next European-market Passat in 2015.
Will we get it in North America? Hard to say. Volkswagen sells the standard CC saloon here, but not in particularly large numbers, and when the company moved to a North American-specific Passat, it dumped the wagon variant. The traditional VW estate apparently continues to pick up sales momentum abroad, however, making the CC Shooting Brake a seemingly natural fit for buyers who still want the utility of a two-box form but can afford to sacrifice a bit of cargo room in the name of style.
