This bug runs incredibly well for being a 39 year old car. Weather permitting, I drive the car once a week from my house to my office without a problem.

The good: The engine runs really well, and is maintained by The Old Volks Home, Richmond, VQA. All headlights, running lights, dash lights, turn signals, radio, windshield wipers work. Has a new battery purchased last year. Fresh oil change three months ago. The paint job, new 8 years ago, looks great. It has a full size spare tire in the front trunk with almost new tread on it.

The bad: Needs a new vinyl top. The previous owners replaced this top twelve years ago and it is starting to show it's age. The convertible top frame is in good shape, just needs to be sanded, lubed, and re-aligned. It needs a drivers side mirror. It needs a new antenna. It does have some rust on the bottom, and sideboards. It needs new hinges for the driver side sun visor.

New VW Beetle Convertible ad needs no disguise

Convertibles make you do funny things. Ask someone if they'd drive a hardtop in near freezing temperatures with all the windows down and they might not even answer, thinking the question so ridiculous. Give that same person a convertible they love and you might just have to ask them to please put the top up even when snow is on the ground.
That guy has to take precautions to enjoy his proclivities, and as this new ad for the Volkswagen Beetle Convertible shows, not everyone understands. Have a watch below, and note that there's just one woman in the minute-long spot, and she's nowhere near the car. Seriously, why didn't VW run this commercial during the Super Bowl?

CEO says Volkswagen's buying spree is over

After adding Italian motorcycle icon Ducati to its stable and spending $5.6 billion on the rest of Porsche, Volkswagen CEO Martin Winterkorn says he's done shopping for a while.
"We have enough to do at the moment in taking our twelve brands to where we want to be," Winterkorn tells German newspaper Handelsblatt.

VW agrees to halt next-gen rally car development to help others stay in WRC

Volkswagen has petitioned the FIA to hold on to the current specifications for cars in the World Rally Championship, according to Autosport.com. The move is evidently an effort to keep as many competitors in the sport as possible, despite the fact that using the current spec racers may actually hurt Volkswagen's chances at winning. The three factory teams currently competing in the WRC are at the end of a three-year homologation cycle at the end of 2013, and new cars are expected to bow next year. But developing new racers could cost as much as $4.7 million.
That price tag would put M-Sport (which fields Ford racers) out of the WRC game for 2014 and would put Citroën participation in question as well. VW has already begun work on the next iteration of its Polo R WRC, and the hatch has nabbed four wins in six rounds this season. Now it appears that car won't bow until at least 2015. The FIA has officially agreed to freeze homologation of new WRC cars until the end of next season.
