1973 Volkswagen Super Beetle on 2040-cars
Chicago, Illinois, United States
Up for sale is a 1973 VW Super Beetle. I bought the car last summer with the intention of it being my daily driver, unfortunately since I am 17, the insurance for the car is about $175 per month. Simply put, I don't have the money for gas, insurance, and just general maintenance, to keep the car on the road.
The car was restored in the early 2000's according to the PO, and when he bought it, he always stored it in the garage, and only drove during the summer. He also noted that the car developed a hesitation when accelerated. I found the car on craigslist, and we met in Springfield. I drove the car home to Chicago (200+ Miles) with no problems or break downs. The car even saved my life when I was forced to slam on the brakes after a truck pulled out in front of us while we were doing 45 mph. I drove the 7 miles to school every day, but noticed that fumes were coming in the cabin from the heater vents. So I took it the mechanic and decided to get a full service on the car. I had high quality Dansk heat exchangers and cables to the heater controls, a new vacuum advance distributor, fuel filter, and fuel pump installed in the car, I changed the oil, as well. The wipers were also turning slowly, so I had the mechanic completely clean and refit the wiper motor. Because of the salty roads in Chicago, I only drove the bug one time, when there was snow on the ground, so it hibernated from December to March. When I drove the car for the first time in the spring, I noticed that the car hesitated and backfired after being driven for a few miles, so it most likely needs a timing adjustment. The Car's body is in great shape, and shines up nicely. Only a few small spots where the paint is bubbling, and the floor pans are 95% solid. There is a small area on the driver's side pan where the metal is starting to crack, as you cans see in the photos. Seats are in awesome shape and are quite comfy. The Headliner is in OK shape, but is pealing above the rear window. The car steers straight, and isn't battered too bad by the wind on the freeway. All the electrics and lights work, including the aftermarket cassette radio. The turn signal lever however, does not cancel after the wheel is turned, and has to be turned off manually, and the odometer is stuck at 42099. The bug also comes with an extra set of tail lights and assemblies that are brand new. All in all, this car is a nice little find, and with a tune up, would be a perfect daily driver or Sunday cruiser. Email me at patsbug66@gmail.com to receive videos of the car driving, and many more pictures. Also any questions will be answered at that adress Thanks for looking! |

VW looking to MAN up, ditch Mercedes van deal
Wed, 16 Jan 2013Unlike the US, the commercial truck market throughout the rest of the world is chocked full of competitors from many different automakers. Since 2006, Volkswagen has had a fullsize van called the Crafter that was a result of a partnership with Daimler AG and based on the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter. This partnership is supposed to last through 2016, but Reuters is reporting that VW might be looking to end its relationship with Daimler and create its own van in cooperation with German truck and bus maker MAN.
The article says that VW AG has more than a 75-percent stake in MAN, which would essentially be keeping the new commercial vehicle in-house. Even if VW bolts, Daimler still has a deal worked out in the commercial truck industry between its subsidiary Mitsubishi Fuso and Renault-Nissan to supply the other with different trucks.
VW previews huge screens, gesture control with Golf R Touch Concept at CES
Tue, Jan 6 2015Volkswagen is showing off the future of infotainment and connected driving at CES 2015 with a fleet of concepts that highlight its latest technology. According to its displays, the coming years might mean gesture-based vehicle controls and electric cars that drive themselves to find their own charging locations. VW's biggest debut at CES is its next-gen infotainment system, dubbed MIB II. The setup supports a wide array of smartphone integration standards, including MirrorLink, Apple CarPlay and Google Android Auto, to make sure that practically every smartphone user can pair the device's interface with the vehicle. Beyond just keeping occupants entertained, MIB II offers a system called Regular Routes that detects traffic along the driver's regular commute to work and suggests alternatives. The Parking Guide also helps find parking spots that are likely open. If MIB II represents the near future of VW infotainment, then the technology on the Golf R Touch Concept is the next step from there. It takes the brand's hot hatch and adds support for gesture controls inside, plus a trio of massive infotainment screens. This R features a 12.8-inch central infotainment screen, an 8-inch screen below it for things like the climate control and switching media and a customizable 12.3-inch display that digitizes the instrument panel. A camera in front of the central display waits for the driver's hands to make specific movements that activate various vehicle functions. Despite all of the potentially distracting screens, VW says the system offers control without requiring a look away from the road. VW hopes the technology reduces driver distraction and creates a closer relationship with the car. Another of the German automaker's big tech showcases is an e-Golf that demonstrates the potential future of both electric and semi-autonomous driving. This version can be charged inductively, rather than through a traditional power cord, and the exterior lights show when the vehicle is fully recharged. It's also equipped with the e-Station Guide that helps drivers find a charging location and tells them about the payment options there. This e-Golf's other major innovation is VW's Trained Parking system. A camera at the front scans the route to a parking space, and if the driver returns later, then the process can be done semi-automatically.
VW Jetta TDI Value Edition drops price of diesel ownership to $21,295*
Wed, 08 Jan 2014Getting a new diesel-powered car just got a bit easier. Volkswagen has announced a new Jetta TDI Value Edition for 2014 that trims over $2,000 off the starting price of a Jetta TDI, making the most affordable diesel-powered car in America even more so. Prices start at $21,295 (*plus $820 for destination) for a Value Edition with a six-speed manual transmission, while a six-speed dual-clutch automatic adds $1,100 to the price. For that money, owners will get 140 horsepower, 236 pound-feet of torque and 42 miles per gallon on the freeway.
Despite the lower price and being down on content versus the previous base Jetta TDI, the Value Edition does come quite well equipped, with standard heated cloth seats, a six-speaker stereo with a Media Device Interface, satellite radio, and one-touch, up-down power windows on all four doors. Customers will be giving up some notable stuff though, including tilt/telescopic steering, Bluetooth streaming audio, power seats and a multi-function steering wheel.
Still, if you're aching to get your hands on a new TDI, this is now the most affordable way to do it. We suspect having the lower MSRP will help the German manufacturer make even further diesel-powered inroads here in the States, a land where they cleared their decks of over 100,000 TDI models in 2013.
