1969 VW RAGTOP

WATCH VIDEO BELOW DESCRIPTION

You are bidding on my 1969 VW Bug Ragtop Classic Beetle. Its a real head turner!

If you know Ragtops then you know the last year they were made was 1964. This Bug had the ragtop grafted in when new and whoever did it did a great job.

I towed the car from Arizona to Florida behind our RV just about 2 years ago (still have towbar also included)

BODY: This car has a new canvas top recently installed (cost over $1000). This is an Arizona car all its life so the body has little to no rust. The only rust is on the bumper and the metal rings around the headlights (which I replaced a little over a year ago and they still rusted, cheap though like $20-$30. Paint is in decent shape but I would suggest painting if you want to show it, but a little buffing will make this car shine! No major dings only 2 small ones (front fender, something from the road and rear fender, maybe shopping cart).

ENGINE: Rebuilt 1776cc engine 2500 miles ago. Single Solex Carb. Car is quick but add dual carbs and it will be crazy fast! No leaks, recent oil change, New Battery

ELECTRICAL: All headlights, stops lights, signals, wipers, running lights, interior lights work good. Odometer stopped working. Gas gage works but sometimes shows less gas than is really in tank. probably sticky fuel sending unit (another really cheap fix)

INTERIOR: Interior is OK. Needs new carpet kit and back seat reupholstered. Its not that bad but inexpensive and will make the interior rock! Missing a few knobs (vent windows, wiper knob but still works)

DRIVETRAIN: Transmission shifts well, no noises

BRAKES: Brakes work well when asked and Emergency brake engages and disengages as normal

This is a cool little ragtop bug that's a real headturner. Don't miss out on this opportunity to own a rare VW everyone wants!

Don't miss your chance to own this wonderful classic. These little bugs are getting harder and harder to find and just going up in value!  Please ask any questions or request any specific photo before bidding.

Title is clear and ready to go. The bug is located in Daytona Beach, Florida. I would be happy to show it in person just ask. The bug needs to be fully payed for within 7 day of  auction end and needs to be picked up within 30 unless other arrangements are specifically made with me. Buyer is responsible for shipping arrangements.

Again this is your chance own a fun little car classic car! Happy Bidding!

An inside look at VW's new California R&D center

Thu, 18 Oct 2012

Less than two months ago, the Volkswagen Group opened a new facility in Oxnard, California (about an hour's drive west of Los Angeles). The $27 million investment, touted as Test Center California (TCC), serves as a research and development lab testing emissions for all brands under Volkswagen's umbrella, including its newest member, Porsche. While still not fully operational, we toured the new 64,000-square-foot building last week and had a first-hand opportunity to see just how much work is involved testing engines and meeting increasingly stringent government emissions standards.
Replacing a similar facility established in 1990 in Westlake Village (about 20-minutes east of the new location), our guide explained how Oxnard was chosen for its temperate climate, varied regional terrain for test drives and low altitude. (The area is only a few feet above sea level - a critical parameter when instrument testing emissions.) The new facility is capable of analyzing hundreds of vehicles, prototypes and customer-owned vehicles, annually.
Most interesting to us was the huge stainless steel climate chamber, with a massive four-wheel dynamometer that allows VW to test running vehicles in both scorching desert and freezing climates without ever leaving the building (an Audi Q7 was running in place during our visit). We were also mesmerized by the countless storage tanks and intricate plumbing of chemicals, stored in both liquid and gas states, needed to perform the variety of tests. Lastly, we took a look at Bugatti's service center on the west coast, located completely within the new center. While there were no supercars on site, the facility is equipped with plenty of spare forged wheels (mounted with expensive Michelin PAX tires) and a Veyron-specific repair jig that allows the vehicle to be completely disassembled, if needed. It is a shame that the facility, which set off all of our automotive geek alerts, is closed to the public.

Volkswagen drops "GTi" lawsuit against Suzuki

Tue, 02 Oct 2012

Way back in 2004, Volkswagen took umbrage with Suzuki being granted permission to use the nameplate "SWIFT GTi" for a performance variant of its small-car offering (2012 equivalent seen here). Now, eight years and surely some very steep legal bills later, VW has finally dropped its claim against Suzuki.
The General Court of the European Union stated, back in March of this year, that Suzuki's GTi registration could not be confused with VW's "Golf GTI." Volkswagen had appealed that ruling, though has now reportedly called off the dogs. In fact, Germany's Die Welt reports that the appeal has been dead for several weeks now.
This news comes amongst continued arbitration acrimony between the two automakers, all revolving around VW's forced divestiture of nearly 20-percent stake it purchased in Suzuki some two years ago.
