1969 Volkswagen Bug - with NO RUST (Low Reserve)

I have decided it's time for me to finally let go of my 1969 VW.  I have had the car for 2 summers now.  Other than taking it to a couple of shows & cruise nights each summer, it just seems to be sitting in the garage collecting dust.  It's time for me to get something a little more family friendly.  This car was built by a friend of mine that manages a body shop in town, so no expense was spared.  The work was completed about 3 years ago.  The Bug was a pan-off restoration.

As you can see, there has been a few modifications done to the car.  It has been de-chromed.  This car has a classic VW glass pack exhaust on it - to give it a little rumble.   The bumpers have been removed with the holes filled.  The car has a set of one-piece fiberglass running boards that look pretty trick.  Looking at the pics, you can see the front-end has been lowered, which gives it a little rougher than stock ride.  I liked the look though, so I never complained.  It also has a set of earlier model front fenders with headlight buckets.  Also, the turn signals have been removed from the top of fenders, and the holes filled for a sleeker look (turn signals are now amber bulbs inside front headlight buckets).  It has a custom two-color paint job on it that I have gotten a lot of compliments on.  The rear windows are tinted.  Finally, the front brakes have been upgraded to disc brakes.

Things I have recently done to the car:
This summer, I replaced the rear rubber trans-axle mounts. I also installed a new battery and a new fuel pump.  There is a newer Empi shifter (about 2 years old) in the car.

The motor is a 1600 single port (previous owner thought it might have been a 1641 kit, but I have not been able to verify that yet).  I have driven that car the past few summers and put a few thousand miles on it.  It has always started right up, driven fine, and stopped perfectly every time .  Also, the heater outlets have been blocked off as this is just a summer time car.

Things you should know the car:
The gas gauge does not work.  It was not working when I bought it, and I never got around to looking at it.  I just always made sure to fill up when I left the house.  Also, there is not a horn button in the steering wheel, so at this point it does not have a functional horn.  There is no seat belts mounted in the car.  I've driven it that way for 2 years and just never put lap belts in it.  It does drip a small bit of oil - as most old Volkswagens do.  I have the backseat of the car in my garage but its not currently in it.

I really hate to see this car go.  I've had a great time with it, and it puts a smile on my face every time I drive it.

I have described the vehicle to the best of my knowledge. Please keep in mind that this is 44 year old car.  It's a great car to tinker with and there's tons of resources out there.  One of the best things about old VW is the parts of really cheap.  If you would like any additional pics or have any questions, please let me know.

If you live in the area, please contact me if you want to come take a peak at it. The vehicle is sold as is, where is - in Fargo, ND.  Buyer is responsible for all transportation costs.  $500 is due within 48 hours of auction end.  Paypal is accepted.  The remainder can be paid via cashiers check, money order, or cash at time of pick-up.  We are willing to store the car up to 30 days - free of charge.

Bentley Bentayga bodies to be built in Bratislava

Sun, Apr 12 2015

Volkswagen's plant in Bratislava, Slovakia, has come a long way. After getting its start in 1971 by subcontracting the production of Skoda-branded vehicles, the plant was purchased by VW in 1991, where it was quickly put to further good use as it began producing Volkswagen Passat models for export. More recently, Bratislava has become a bastion for SUVs, assembling the Audi Q7 and Porsche Cayenne, in addition to the VW Touareg. Color us unsurprised, then, to learn that the Bentley Bentayga, which will be built atop the same large SUV platform as its cousins from Audi, Porsche and VW, will also be used for at least part of the production of Bentley's first SUV. Surely, though, one of the hallmarks of the Bentley brand is that its cars are handmade in England. Won't the Bentley-buying populace feel slighted by production in Slovakia? Not to worry. As is the case with the Porsche Cayenne, all that will be produced in Slovakia is the Bentayga's body. According to a report from Automotive News, bodies for the Bentayga will be shipped from Bratislava to Crewe, England, where they will be finished into fully operational vehicles. In order to accommodate the additional work, VW will reportedly invest 500 million euros into the plant in Slovakia and hire hundreds of workers.

Yes, a family of 5 can live in a 1981 VW Westfalia van

Fri, Feb 14 2014

Automakers and marketers trying to reach environmentally conscious consumers who desire the simple life basically have two strategies: promote electric vehicles that can be charged through green energy or sell a 30-year-old Volkswagen van on Craigslist. Nicolas Boullosa and Kirsten Dirksen opted for Plan B and turned a 1981 Volkswagen Westfalia camper into a "micro-living" experiment. The co-founders of the simple living website faircompanies packed up their van and three young children for a road trip through the Pacific Northwest. They even turned the adventure into a documentary called Summer of (Family) Love, which you can view below. It's two hours long, so maybe add this to your weekend viewing list. They limited themselves to one backpack per person into a camper that they purchased off Craigslist and named "Westy." They stuck to their original intention of cooking all their own meals off a propane stove, creating a new little home every night in a different location, mostly spaces outside RV parks. They met up with other enthusiasts of the "tiny house" community who live like nomads. They were able to interview a few of then and, "With each stop we picked up some new piece of wisdom about life's essentials," Dirksen wrote in the faircompanies blog. VW investigating Golf water leak discovered by car magazine

Sat, 07 Sep 2013

Volkswagen is in a spat with German magazine Auto Bild over claims that its new, seventh-generation Golf may already need a recall. The German weekly reports that new Golfs can leak water into front-passenger footwells due to a faulty drainage tube in their air conditioning systems.
And while the fix itself doesn't sound too terrible, because Volkswagen bases so many cars off the same platform as the Golf, Auto Bild is claiming that 300,000 models could be affected, including the Audi A3 and Seat Leon. That's a very bold claim. For its part, VW is vehemently denying that number, according to Reuters, saying it's aware of the problem and claiming only 46 Golfs need fixing. In addition, it denies that any Audi or Seat models are affected by the issue.
Either way, regardless of how pervasive this leak issue is, North American buyers should rest easy knowing that the problems ought to get fixed by the time the Mk VII Golf finaly reaches our dealerships.
