Hi, I'm selling my precious California bug because like most of us I'm strapped for cash. I've had her for quite a while now as a daily driver, but I've taken good care of this gem. You can call me at my 239 number, but I live in Los Feliz!

I got her from an old man down the street, who at the time let her sit in the garage but had recently got her in working order. She was used as a daily driver, so there were a lot of problems that come with a sitting car that I didn't have to worry about. She's got a solid underbody with some small bubble or two of rust (one around the hood and one around the engine lid, easy fix). She started right up and had no issues.

Every oil change, part replacement, or scheduled maintenance after I bought her has been documented. All of that, along with the new title under my name and papers are clean. Anything done to the vehicle while in my possession is on paper for your records.

I got her a Sapphire X radio, that works (except for AM) but all preset station buttons work too! I got her as close as I could to original specs.

Bottom Line: She has minor rust underneath on the battery tray (which any VW owner knows it's to be expected, not an expensive fix), the heater box works and will keep the cabin as hot as an oven during the cold, defogger switch works as well as all electronics on the bug, she's a daily driver I've taken care of so she's good to go.

Her stats:
-1600cc single port
- New battery
- Installed "secret killswitch" to deter car jackers
- 40k miles on the speedo
- Rebuilt carb
- All electrical works (original wiring/colors)
- Oil change (50 miles ago)
- Four new tires w/alignment
- New brake shoes
- Original interior
- Working sunroof/crank
- Straight body, no accidents
- Runs smooth!
- Heat works great
- Fresh air vents/box work
- Reverse lights come on!
- Cigarette lighter installed into Glove Box to charge GPS/USB without all that clutter while driving!

READY TO DRIVE AWAY!

The only thing that she needs now is some tender love and care. With that all said, you can email me with any questions. I'm asking $8,500 but there is a reserve too, I'm not looking to TRADE and I only accept cash.

Thanks for checking out the ad! Happy hunting!

Volkswagen formally introduces super-efficient XL1

Mon, 04 Mar 2013

Lightweight and low drag are hallmarks of great sportscar design. But when paired with a super-efficient, hybrid powertrain, you have the Volkswagen's XL1 that has been formally introduced in Geneva today.
When the 1,700-lb, carbon-fiber-bodied two-seater hits the road, its claimed 261 miles per gallon will make it the world's most-fuel-efficient production car. Though "production car" might be a stretch since VW said in a February press release that the XL1 would be built using "handcrafting-like production methods." We translate that to mean you won't be seeing many of these cars on the road. Though no one at VW has mentioned pricing yet, early rumors suggested a six-figure price tag.
That's supercar budget for a vehicle that has a 47-horsepower, two-cylinder diesel engine and a 27hp electric motor. With numbers like that, owners can expect 0-62 mph times of 12.7 seconds and top speed near 100 mph.

Volkswagen's 261-mpg hand-built XL1 headed for Geneva

Thu, 21 Feb 2013

After years of rumors, development and testing, the Volkswagen XL1 is finally about to become a reality. The project that began life as a daring 1-Liter concept car in 2002, will finally get its production-ready curtain call at the Geneva Motor Show in just a few weeks.
As soon as it hits the streets, the two-seat XL1 will instantly become the most fuel-efficient and most aerodynamic production car in the world. The car uses a plug-in hybrid system to achieve mind-blowing consumption of just 0.9 liters of diesel fuel consumed every 100 kilometers (and average of roughly 261 miles per gallon). Plus, the XL1 can go up to 50 kilometers on its battery power alone. Coefficient of drag is a miniscule 0.189, thanks to a tiny frontal area and an obviously slippery shape.
XL1 power comes from a two-cylinder diesel motor connected to a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, while the 20 kW electric motor is fed by a lithium-ion battery. Both combine to give the XL1 performance figures that are, while not stirring, not shabby considering its extreme frugality: 0-62 miles per hour comes up in 12.7 seconds and top speed is nearly 146 mph.
