I did not think I would be doing this and I know I am going to regret my decision in selling my Vw considering I will never ever find an unmolested all original German again, but I have made up my mind and must sell a few of my classics.

With that being said, a little about myself...

I have a passion for 1965 model year cars since I was a kid and I buy them, register them, insure them, restore them, drive them, enjoy them and put them on the road again. I see a lot of cars and have many friends that keep their eye out for me but it is getting more and more difficult to find original owner classics. I know my cars well and I will only buy an original unmolested classic from its first owner that drove it home from the dealer when it was new. This bug was an exception and I am the third owner, here's why..

The car was purchased new in 1965 in San Francisco Ca. by a lady that was in love with it. When she could no longer drive it do to health issues she covered it up in front of her home where it sat for some years. One day she decided to sell it and went outside, uncovered it put a "For Sale" sign on the window and covered it back up. (laugh out loud, may she rest in peace). The neighbor across the street saw this and called up a buddy of mine that lives out here in Los Angeles who was very interested in it for a long time so he purchased the car and brought it back here with the intension to restore it.

The car was repainted at some time prior to him so he began sanding the front right fender (never told me why) ordered the wrong seat covers (color and all. there for a Karman Ghia). He also pushed the car into the wall of his garage (see left fender/bumper in the picture) Then the car sat in his garage and driveway for 18+ years (with the exceptions of the Warner Brothers studios renting and towing it away or two commercial shoots) before he decided he had no time to restore it and sold it to me a few years back when I had a shop where I restored and stored my vehicles.

So I rebuilt the engine, replaced master brake cylinder, wheel cylinders, brake shoes and springs, installed a new 6volt battery, four new tires and I also bought parking brake cables that I never bothered to install, registered it and started driving this Bug the way it is rather than restoring it.

This Vw Bug is...

All original down to the jack and two sets of keys, all German (except seat covers and spare tire) no rust other than the battery pan (see pic). The outside of the car was repainted many years ago same color (but I'm guessing a cheap paint job do to the fender beads being painted). The speaker to the radio is worn out but I,m pretty sure the radio works. The front bumper is slightly bent (see pic) front windshield has chip (see pic). Dealer option bumper guards (see pic)

All original 1965 Volkswagen Beetle 6 volt that will start with a quarter click of the key. Super reliable, you can fly in from anywhere in the nation and drive it home.

If you are looking to restore a Bug here is the rare find, or if you have the means of storing it here is the investment. These cars will go up in value as they age.

Recharge Wrap-up: Jaguar Land Rover talks EVs, Batteries should be modular

Wed, Sep 3 2014

A new study out of Germany suggests adopting a modular approach to battery offerings in plug-in hybrid and extended range electric vehicles. Automakers could offer the same car with different battery sizes (and different costs, accordingly) to drivers depending on their driving ranges. This would optimize the total cost of ownership for various drivers better than the current approach. Developing a modular battery design and offering appropriate batteries for different customers "is the key for electric powertrains to meet customer expectations and become cost competitive against conventional technologies," according to the report from the Institute of Vehicle Concepts, German Aerospace Center. Learn more at Green Car Congress. Jaguar and Land Rover are looking to offer more electric driving from their vehicles. Wolfgang Ziebart, head of product development for Jaguar Land Rover, said in an interview that its hybrid system is being tweaked for more electric power and "downsized" combustion. He also said the likely target market for EVs would be second and third vehicles, rather than primary vehicles for urban driving. Within that market, Europeans look for something smaller, while American drivers lean toward larger luxury vehicles for their second car. Ziebart uses the Tesla Model S as an example of American tastes, and compares its size to that of the Jaguar XJ. Read more at Automotive News Europe. Thailand will likely approve a Volkswagen factory as early as next week. A German newspaper suggests that Thailand's Board of Investment is set to greenlight the plant, which is planned for a site near the Port of Bangkok. Thailand is a relatively large and growing auto manufacturing country, which seeks to be a major producer of eco-friendly vehicles. The country's "Eco2" program would provide incentives to Volkswagen if it builds clean cars and meets certain production targets. Read more at Reuters. Formula E has chosen Sky Deutschland for broadcasting rights in the German market. The deal includes television rights, as well as online broadcasting. Sky Deutschland has 3.8 million subscribers in Germany and Austria. Showing the races on Germany's largest pay television provider should help generate interest for the series, particularly the Berlin ePrix - the inaugural season's penultimate race - scheduled for May 30, 2015. Volkswagen CrossBlue Coupe is a green fun-machine we want to drive

Fri, 19 Apr 2013

Think back to January's Detroit Auto Show. Those of you that are fans of the Volkswagen brand, impressed with green technology or simply fall into the "diesel geek" category, will almost certainly remember VW's CrossBlue concept with its diesel/electric hybrid powertrain, seating for seven, and somewhat awkward crossover styling. It was an impressive piece of future tech, to be sure, though it left something to be desired in the, well, desirability department.
Here in Shanghai, VW has brought along a CrossBlue Coupe concept that would seem to include most of the goodness of the original, but flavored with more sport and style this time around.
The CrossBlue Coupe makes use of the same electric drive components as the larger three-row concept: two electric motors (front and rear) powered by a 9.8-kWh lithium-ion battery. However, where the original concept made use of a TDI four-cylinder, the Coupe substitutes a 295-horsepower, direct-injection, gasoline-burning V6.

Fully Charged rolls into season 3 with VW XL1 and electric Land Rover

Sat, Jan 18 2014

It's been some time since last we visited with British actor and electric car proponent Robert Llewellyn and his web-based video series, Fully Charged. The show, now sponsored by Ecotricity, has started rolling out its third season and now has available two episodes featuring a pair of truly unique – and diametrically opposed – vehicles. The first installment starts with some interesting numbers involving the host's Nissan Leaf and its energy consumption over the past 36,000 miles, but soon moves on to the ultra-aero, ultra-expensive Volkswagen XL1. Now, if you've already seen the footage from our own XL1 first drive review, there's not a lot new here except, perhaps, more enthusiasm and a better listen of the two-cylinder diesel kicking in. Still, it's a great reminder of a truly unique vehicle and we enjoyed the segment. The second episode features an electrified Land Rover Defender 110. This is a vehicle you'd more likely see on an African safari than at the local mall. It's not a home-built conversion either, but rather, something the company has put together "for the boffins to create the ideas and see if they work." Boasting a 50-mile range, it's certainly something we like to take on an off-road adventure. Llewellyn is given the chance to do just that, and though the course is somewhat milder than what we might attempt, it does feature a stretch of river and some rough, rutted tracks. You can watch both episodes by scrolling below let us know which vehicle you'd prefer in the comments. This writer is going with the four-wheel-drive. This content is hosted by a third party.
