This is a rare 1961 Beetle convertible. It is still a 6 volt car and it has a new: Engine, Brakes, Tires, steering dampner and Interior. I also have the ORIGINAL engine and original steering wheel that goes with the car along with a like new engine lid and all new Tie Rods. The car runs really, really good. I have had many beetles and none have run as well as this car, it could be a daily driver.
The paint is fine, probably a 7 footer. The speedo works fine which is handy because this car never did have a gas gauge, I just fill it up every 100 miles. The roof has a small hole in it and needs to be replaced. The running boards are worn and could be replaced. Neither are expensive but the top can be a time consuming installation.
No real rust to speak of. The pans have been replaced over the years. The only rust is about a golf ball size hole under the spare tire which is common and the driver side rear heater channel has a hole in it.
Here is a video of the car:

These are very rare this old and would not take a lot to be a show winner. It just needs some cosmetic things but I just like driving it and do most every sunny day. If you watch the auction shows you know these early beetle convertibles are going thru the roof so it should make you a great investment you can have fun with.

Volkswagen Group names Paefgen head of classics program
Tue, 04 Oct 2011You may remember the name Franz-Josef Paefgen. Until recently, the German engineer and executive was head of both Bentley and Bugatti. Before that he was chief executive of Audi, after working for several years at Ford. He technically "retired" earlier this year, but like the cars he helped create, an executive like Paefgen could never really retire. So it should come as little surprise that the Volkswagen Group has named Dr. Paefgen head of its Classic program.
In his new capacity, Paefgen will oversee the historic automobile activities of the entire VW Group, including those of Volkswagen, Seat, Skoda, Audi, Lamborghini, and of course Bentley and Bugatti. It strikes us as a suitable semi-retirement for the man responsible in no small part for the Bugatti Veyron and Bentley Mulsanne, to name just two, and who was decorated in 2006 by the ACO as the "Spirit of Le Mans" for his contribution to endurance racing. Read the official announcement after the break.
Volkswagen throws a Polo-palooza with four new or upgraded models
Wed, 05 Mar 2014Volkswagen unveiled a parade of new and upgraded Polo models at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show, including the Polo TSI BlueMotion, Polo TDI BlueMotion, Polo BlueGT and CrossPolo (pictured above). While they will likely never make an appearance this side of the pond, it is fun to see what European subcompact drivers will be driving later this year.
The new BlueMotion models represent the most efficient petrol and diesel options in their class, according to VW. The BlueMotion TDI offers just 73 horsepower from its diesel engine but gives the equivalent of 76 miles per gallon (US) in the EU test. The BlueMotion TSI brings a little more power with its 88-hp petrol engine and has a combined rating of 57 mpg (US) in the EU cycle.
The Polo BlueGT provides a balance of performance and economy, and for the 2014 model, it gains a 9-horsepower boost to its 1.4-liter turbocharged to give drivers 147 hp at the press of the accelerator. This year's car also has an optional Sport Select suspension with electronically controlled dampers to improve handling a bit. It's still fitted with active cylinder management to use as little gas as possible when cruising.
