1960 Volkswagen V.w European Model Beetle - Bug on 2040-cars

Year:1960 Mileage:76676
Location:

Costa Mesa, California, United States

Up for auction is this very solid and original European model 1960 V.W beetle. This model year was the last year for the semaphores (Turn signals that pop out of the pillar) in 1961 all Beetles switched modern style turn signals These cars were commonly bought by U.S forces in Germany, driven around during their mission and shipped back to the states. This being the case the cars were usually meticulously cared for as the soldiers went through the effort to bring them back.
Looking over this car carefully it becomes clear that it is a low mileage car and spent most of its life in desert climate. The Beetle is very dry, showing no signs of an accident or any rust repair.   This is one of the cleanest pans I have personally seen to date, the battery tray which is usually rusted out is no exception to the rest of the pan and is very solid and has never been welded on.  Fender wells are clean, all of the fender bolts remain intact and in good condition which is also uncommon as there are usually a few broken or rusted out bolts.  The car throughout is in very nice original condition, being over 50 years old it does show some wear but the car is complete and is very presentable.

European features include the Semaphores, Kilometer Speedometer, and the euro spec bumpers.

Accessories include: Bambus under dash parcel tray, Cigar ashtray, and 3 in 1 Motometer  gauge cluster (still 6 volt)

Motor is a rebuilt 1600cc dual port with less than 1500 miles on it and is still under the 1 year 10k mile warranty.  Single dellorto 36 carburetor for a little extra pep. Motor does not, I park it in the same place daily and there is not a drop of oil..

Transmission is a freeway flyer and shifts through all of the gears perfectly and allows the car to drive comfortably at freeway speeds.

Wheels are stock 15" rear tires are in good shape but the front will need to be replaced before too long.

Electrical has been updated to 12v: Semaphores work great, head lights, brights, tail lights, brake lights, all work.

Interior was redone in an original blue color scheme with a white piping. The seats are in great condition as are the door panels and floor mats.  The headliner has a few rips but still looks decent.

Paint is an older paint job showing its age with scratches blemishes and some small dents and dings.. This is a very true car showing no signs of body work or excessive use of bondo.

This car would make an excellent daily driver for someone looking to get good gas mileage and drive something with a little character or would make a great first car and father son project..  Being a Semaphore car this sets it apart from 99% of other Beetles you will see on the road and are a great conversation peace. This car gets lots of looks and thumbs up and is a pleasure to drive.   Drive this car as is and slowly add accessories or your personal touches or take it out as a Sunday cruiser, either way this is a unique opportunity to own a car with some great history.

Potential buyers are welcome to come view the car by making an appointment, I am available to show the car most days and can drive reasonable distances to meet you.  I answer my emails often and encourage bidders to set up a time to see the car in person. If you are an overseas buyer or long distance buyer I have reputable shops and mechanics that are willing to inspect the car.  I am selling at NO RESERVE! Please bid with confidence and ask lots of questions.

Happy to ship world wide and I have several reputable shippers that I regularly use.

MORE PICTURES AVAILALE UPON REQUEST. I can send VIA text, or Email.

60 EURO plates have not been registered to the vehicle since 1991 and are not current. The car does have current registration and plates until jun 2014.

Recharge Wrap-up: Mercedes gets F1 efficiency, EV charging in Vermont, VW e-Golf to use Bosch

Mon, Jul 14 2014

Efficiency equals performance, especially in the case of Formula 1 racing. The Mercedes AMC Petronas team points to several key efficiency technologies it uses to get the most out of its cars. And if their utter dominance so far this season is testament to this relationship, perhaps we should pay attention. Mercedes highlights hybrid tech, turbocharging, aerodynamics, lightweight construction, tribology (both in making internal components and lubricants more slippery) and simulation as crucial to getting around the track faster than anyone else. These just happen to be some of the same things that make the cars we drive on public roads more fuel-efficient. Learn more in the press release below. It's a good read. Brammo, maker of sweet electric motorcycles, is teaming up with TEAM Industries to make drivetrains for electric vehicles. TEAM, which specializes in drivetrain technology, will also become an investor in Brammo as part of the partnership. "The electric vehicle market is a growth market," says TEAM CEO and President David Ricke, "and TEAM and Brammo will be providing a wide range of solutions for OEM manufacturers." Read more over at EV World. Vermont celebrated the installation of a new EV charging station as part of a Green Energy Corridor between Boston and Montreal. When finished, drivers will be able to make the whole trip in an EV with access to charging along the way. For $5, customers can charge their vehicle in about 30 minutes at the Red Hen Baking Company in Middlesex. There are currently only about 700 EVs on the road in Vermont. The state has a goal to get 90 percent of its energy from renewable sources by 2050, and getting more EVs on the road is crucial to that mission. Vermont hopes that expanding the charging infrastructure will convince more people to go electric. Read more at Vermont Public Radio's website. For it's new e-Golf, Volkswagen will use Bosch chargers for home installation and ChargePoint stations at its dealerships. Bosch will have various 240-volt options for the home, and will also provide installation. e-Golf customers will also get a free ChargePoint membership, and will have access to the company's network of charging stations worldwide. The 2015 e-Golf goes on sale in the US later this year. Read more in the press release below. Ford Mustang Mach-E fails Sweden's moose test

Wed, Sep 29 2021

The infamous moose test has claimed another casualty. This time it's the Ford Mustang Mach-E AWD Long Range, which was tested in an electric four-way alongside the Tesla Model Y, Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Skoda Enyaq iV (an electric utility vehicle closely related to the Volkswagen ID.4 that is sold in the United States). According to the Swedish testers at Teknikens Varld, Ford's electric car not only failed to hit the speed necessary for a passing grade, it didn't perform well at slower speeds, either. To pass the outlet's moose test, a car has to complete a rapid left-right-straight S-shaped pattern marked by cones at a speed of at least 72 km/h (44.7 miles per hour). The test is designed to mimic the type of avoidance maneuver a driver would have to take in order to avoid hitting something that wandered into the road, which in Sweden may be a moose but could just as easily be a deer or some other member of the animal kingdom elsewhere in the world, or possibly a child or car backing into the motorway. Not only is the maneuver very aggressive, it's also performed with weights belted into each seat and more weight added to the cargo area to hit the vehicle's maximum allowable carrying capacity. The Mustang Mach-E only managed to complete the moose test at 68 km/h (42.3 mph), well below the passing-grade threshold. Even at much lower speeds, Teknikens Varld says the Mach-E (which boasts the highest carrying capacity and was therefore loaded with more weight than the rest of the vehicles tested in this quartet) is "too soft in the chassis" and suffers from "too slow steering." Proving that it is indeed possible to pass the test, the Hyundai and Skoda completed the maneuver at the 44.7-mph figure required for a passing grade and the Tesla did it at 46.6 mph, albeit with less weight in the cargo area. It's not clear whether other versions of the Mustang Mach-E would pass the test. It's also unknown if Ford will make any changes to its chassis tuning or electronic stability control software, as some other automakers have done after a poor performance from Teknikens Varld, to improve its performance in the moose test. Jaguar Land Rover seeks to block U.S. imports of Porsche, Audi, Lamborghini, VW SUVs

Fri, Nov 20 2020

You wouldn’t know it was about Jags and Lambos, to judge by its rather dry name: In the Matter of Certain Vehicle Control Systems. But thatÂ’s the complaint Jaguar Land Rover Automotive Plc filed on Thursday to block U.S. imports of Porsche, Lamborghini, Audi and Volkswagen sport utility vehicles it says are using its patented Terrain Response technology without permission. Jaguar Land Rover, a British carmaker owned by IndiaÂ’s Tata Motors Ltd., said in its filing with the U.S. International Trade Commission that the technology helps negotiate a “broad range of surfaces” and is a key feature in JaguarÂ’s F-Pace and Land Rover Discovery vehicles. “JLR seeks to protect itself and its United States operations from companies that have injected infringing products into the U.S. market that incorporate, without any license from JLR, technology developed by JLR and protected by its patent,” JaguarÂ’s lawyer, Matthew Moore, said in the filing. Representatives of Volkswagen didnÂ’t immediately respond to emails seeking comment on the complaint. Jaguar wants to block imports of PorscheÂ’s Cayenne; LamborghiniÂ’s Urus; AudiÂ’s Q8, Q7, Q5, A6 Allroad and e-tron vehicles; and VWÂ’s Tiguan vehicles. It said there are plenty of other luxury midsize SUV and compact crossover vehicles to meet consumer demand if the SUVs are banned from the U.S. Still, the premium Porsche and Audi lines provide much of the profit VW is using to fund its investments in technology for electric vehicles, autonomous vehicles and further innovations. In addition to the four brands, Volkswagen Group owns other upscale nameplates, including Bentley and Bugatti. The International Trade Commission is an independent, quasi-judicial agency that investigates complaints of unfair trade practices, like patent infringement. It canÂ’t award damages but does have the power to block products from entering the U.S. Owners of patents and trade secrets like it because it can work faster than the federal district courts -- the typical investigation is completed in 15 to 18 months. But Jaguar also filed patent lawsuits against the companies in federal courts in Delaware and New Jersey, seeking cash compensation for the use of the technology. Those cases are likely to be put on hold once the trade commission launches its investigation. The case is In the Matter of Certain Vehicle Control Systems, 337-3508, U.S. International Trade Commission (Washington).
