The vehicle is located in Clarksburg WV 26301 and I am on Eastern Standard Time.

1958 VW Bug Sedan, Blue, 1500 Single Port( As far as I can tell about the engine it is not the original and is probably some where in the neighborhood of a 1968-69) 4 Speed Manual Transmission and the car has been converted to a 12 volt system with everthing done correctly. The actual milage of the car is unknown as the odometer was broken when I purchased it in 06/11 but I have probably put a total of 2000 miles on the car since purchasing it. The VIN plate and the S/N on the backbone match and I have a clear title in hand and has been garage kept in a heated garage and not driven in the winter time or the rain if I can avoid the rain. Everything works as it should with the exception of the door jamb switches.
The interior light works you just have to turn it on manually with the switch. Things I have done to the car since buying it 06/2011. I replaced the armature in the wiper motor with a 12 volt one from Wolfsburg West as it was on a resistor with a 6 Volt before at the time of purchase from the P/O and rewired the switch so that they will park and work properly. I also replaced all the bushings and E clips as well and there are windshield squirters that work off a electric motor and a switch under the dash. Next I replaced the Speedometer with a restored one from Orange Empire Speedometer with a 1960 90 MPH correct clear needle one that he even recalibrated for the 145R15 Nankang tires so the speed and odometer is correct and had shift points added that are dead on. I replaced this (also still have the original) because the original Speedo was faded and worn and the odometer was malfunctioning and since there is no fuel guage in a 58 but only a reserve petcock this was desperately needed. Next I added drop king pin link pin CB spindles that I bought from widefive.net already set up and just bolted them on but I also kept the original spindles and did not send them back for core and they go with the car as well. I did not cut the front beam so as to keep the original ride geometry and also kept the original spindles and the 165R15 tires (which also go with the sale of the car) that I removed and replaced with 145R15 Nankang’s up front and P205/65R/15 B F Goodrich Premier Touring in the rear on slotted steel rims that were painted to match the car by the previous owner. The drop spindles give it a mild rake but there is still plenty of clearance up front and I have had no issues with dragging or hitting the front on anything. There is also a 165 spare tire mounted on a smooth rim painted same color as the rest and a jack/lug wrench and spare lug bolts that are up front. The front bonet is no longer on springs but actuated by gas shocks the open it. The guy who restored the car also added KYB shocks front and rear. I also installed new German split rear axle boots at the correct 10 and 2 position however the right one has a small leak buy the inboard clamp. I probably did not get the clamp tight enough and have not had the time to jack it up and fix it. The engine also leaks a little oil after running around in the car and parking it and it cools down. It leaves a puddle about the size of a 50 cent piece and appears to be coming from the case and there is a picture of what it leaves in my photobucket link. I also just replaced the valve cover gaskets and adjusted the valves approx 400 miles ago. The fuel filter has also been relocated down beside the transmission. The engine has all the proper tin and the oil pressure light and temp light work as they should and it has a thermostat installed and the heat exchangers are in good shape and in working order. The P/O that I bought the car from added the Rometsch Ivory Steering Wheel and the Volkswagen hood script emblem. When I bought it from him I drove it from Clarksville Indiana to Clarksburg WV without any problems. The P/O I bought the car from is not the one who restored the car but he purchased it off the guy who did and from the recipts that he gave me from this guy it appears that it started in 2003 and I placed all of these in order by date up to the point of the last thing that I put on the car and they are in a three ring binder that also goes with the car. The body shell, hood, and deck lid appear to be original to the car but the floor pans, front and rear fenders as well as the doors are new as well as the running boards and the front and rear bumpers and the brackets. The spare tire well was also replaced when restored and the engine compatment spring is off and the rear bonnet lid needs to be held up with a prop rod. The heater channels were upgraded to 1968 or newer and you will see this in the pictures in the photo bucket link and the levers work properly to switch it from the floor to the dash and there was a third vent added to the center of the windshield and plumbed for heat as well and works great. The interior was also replaced in black and the only issue with it is the headliner needs re-glued in a couple spots. There are heavy rubber mats under the carpet and VW heavy duty floor mats on top as well. The gass pedal was also replaced with a roller one and it is very niceto use. The hard and rubber brake lines appear to have all been replace and there are no issues with the brakes and they function as they should with the exception of the emergency brake that an old time VW guy told me when he seen how high the handle comes up said the e-brake cables are streched from somone pulling it up to hard/fast and should be replaced. They still work and hold the car on an incline but if pulled up to fast and hard it causes the mechanism in the handle to pop out of its track and they have to be loosened at the handle in order to flip it back into place. I was planing to do this as they are fairly cheap and easy to replace but have never gotten around to it as they still work. The paint/bodywork is OK but not show quality or as smooth as it should be as there are imperfections and a couple of runs and whoever did the body prep work did not take as much time as they should have and there is a lot of orange peel and imperfections in the paint and it probably could be color sanded and a lot of this removed but I bought it to drive not to take to sunday car shows but still it polishes up nice and turns a lot of heads and attracts a lot of attention. I call it a 10 foot paint job as from 10 feet away it looks great but up close it would not win any awards at the Oakland roadster Show. If it were any nicer then I would not have wanted to use it for a daily driver and take it out of the garage however I have a company car and do not drive it everyday but do use it when I need to go places as long as the weather is nice. I am pretty OCD about that. It is a very nice driver as it will cruise at 70 MPH on the freeway and has plenty of power to keep up and dart in and out of traffic. All of the electrical wiring has been replaced and there are no gremlins and everything works as it should with the exception of the door switches as mentioned earlier. The fuse panels were upgraded to the blade type and I have a KDC-X494 Kenwood Single Disc w/usb port and aux jack stereo that is new and goes with the sale but has not been installed. There is also a Alpine stereo that came with the car and is pre- wired in the dash but I never installed it and do not know if it works and it also goes with the car.  There is wiring to the rear behind the seat for speakers but none came with the car and I have not installed any. The P/O put the radio block off plate in the dash but since it had already been cut to fit a newer style radio it had a gap at the bottom that was wider than he liked and he had a engraved plate made and (dont ask me why) he glued it to the dash. I removed it but it pulled off some of the paint that I tryed to touch up and then I glued a magnet to the back of the engraved plate and placed it back on the dash so it now just comes off effortlessly. I had planed to install the stereo and it would probably cover up the the touched up paint on the dash where the engraved plate is and the engraved plate could be ditched.  All of the steering components are like new or in great shape and the steering is tight and there is no wandering going down the road and the gas tank was also cleaned out and lined and a new reserve petcock installed by the guy who restored the car and it works as it should. For those of you that dont know the reserve petcock handle is under the dash and works like one on a motorcycle where you have a gallon of gas in reserve all the time and if the motor starts sputtering you flip the lever and you have a gallon of gas (approx 28 miles to get to a gas station) to fill up till your completely empty. I was leary of this at first but the more I read about it and the fact that most older VW's gas guages were iffy at best most preferred the petcock over the gas guage anyway and I have never been stranded because of it since the new speedo. All you have to do is keep track of the milage and when you last filled up and there are no issues.  All of the rubber seals and window seals and scrapers were also replaced( There are no water leaks in this car) by the guy who restoerd the car and the vehicle is air tight so much so that you have to crack the window in order for the heat to flow correctly and really give the doors a good push to shut them with the windows rolled up. I have been averaging 27-28 miles per gallon and while the case leaks a little the engine is strong and does not burn any oil and starts up every time with no problems. Everything has also been switched over to 12 volt and the rear tail lights are not correct for the year (I know they should be snowflakes) but have the separate stop and turn lamps 62-63 for better visibility and the turn signals work as they should but are not self canceling the front headlights are halogen and have metal Rossi Porsche head light rings and the parking lamps in them function as well and are wired up (dont ask me why I did not do it) to the dash dimmer switch but you can turn them off if you like you just will not have the speedo lit up at night if you chose to do so. There are no seat belts in the car as 58's did not come with them and since in my state if a car was not equipped with them from the factory then you are not required to have them due to its year. I was going to install some but decided not to if I ever wanted to sell it and the next person did not want them. The side and rear windows have tint on them from the previous owner and this can be removed if need be but I left it as its not very dark and help keep the car cool on sunny days. There is a dent and scuff in the hubcap on the right front wheel and there are two spare hub caps that go with the car put the chrome is starting to peel on both. There is also a indoor/outdoor car cover that goes with the car that I have never used. The shifter knob is an ivory one from the American Shifter Company but I also have the correct one as well.  Call with any questions 304-629-8361 I'm sure I have forgotten something so ask as I am not a VW expert and this was the first one I have ever owned. My motovation for selling is not because it is problematic in any way I just want to fund another project. Also feel free to contact me if you would like to inspect the car in person before bidding and even take it for a ride as it is licensed and insured. I will also let the buyer of the vehicle use my license plate to drive it home should you chose to do so and mail it back to me as long as I can verify that you have secured insurance on the vehicle prior to taking possesion of it.

Terms of Sale: I will only accept cash paid in person or a wire transfer to my Credit Union from a Bank or Credit Union that can be verified within 7 days of the end of the auction before the car and title are turned over and will not deal through Pay Pal. I am a Law Enforcement Officer by trade and you should not be worried about being scammed and I also will not put up with anyone trying the same on me so please call for an appointment and come inspect the vehicle before bidding if you have any questions. It will be the responsibility of the winner to arrange for the transportation of the vehicle to their destination and to pick up the vehicle 7 days after the auction . Vehicle is being sold as is and there is no warranty or guarantees that come with the vehicle. The Vehicle is also for sale locally and I reserve the right to end the auction at any time should it be sold before the end of the auction. Thanks for looking and good luck bidding.

UAW Falls 87 Votes Short Of Major Victory In South

Sat, Feb 15 2014

Just 87 votes at the Volkswagen plant in Tennessee separated the United Auto Workers union from what would have been its first successful organization of workers at a foreign automaker in the South. Instead of celebrating a potential watershed moment for labor politics in the region, UAW supporters were left crestfallen by the 712-626 vote against union representation in the election that ended Friday night. The result stunned many labor experts who expected a UAW win because Volkswagen tacitly endorsed the union and even allowed organizers into the Chattanooga factory to make sales pitches. The loss is a major setback for the UAW's effort to make inroads in the growing South, where foreign automakers have 14 assembly plants, eight built in the past decade, said Kristin Dziczek, director of the labor and industry group at the Center for Automotive Research, an industry think tank in Michigan. "If this was going to work anywhere, this is where it was going to work," she said of the Volkswagen vote. Organizing a Southern plant is so crucial to the union that UAW President Bob King told workers in a speech that the union has no long-term future without it. The loss means the union remains largely quarantined with the Detroit Three in the Midwest and Northeast. Many viewed VW as the union's best chance to gain a crucial foothold in the South because other automakers have not been as welcoming as Volkswagen. Labor interests make up half of the supervisory board at VW in Germany, and they questioned why the Chattanooga plant is the company's only major factory worldwide without formal worker representation. VW wanted a German-style "works council" in Chattanooga to give employees a say over working conditions. The company says U.S. law won't allow it without an independent union. In Chattanooga, the union faced stern opposition from Republican politicians who warned that a UAW victory would chase away other automakers who might come to the region. Sen. Bob Corker of Tennessee was the most vocal opponent, saying that he was told that VW would soon announce plans to build a new SUV in Chattanooga if workers rejected the union. That was later denied by a VW executive, who said the union vote had no bearing on expansion decisions. Other state politicians threatened to cut off state incentives for the plant to expand if the union was approved.

Bosch fuel pumps spark recall of 2015 Golf, GTI and Audi A3

Tue, Apr 28 2015

A few weeks ago, BMW and Nissan both issued recalls for some of their vehicles to replace Bosch-supplied fuel pumps. The pumps had nickel plating that could flake off and cause a failure. Volkswagen Group is the latest automaker to be affected by the problem and has a campaign for the 2015 Audi A3, VW Golf and GTI. In total, 6,204 units of these models are in need of repair. The problem with the VW Group vehicles is identical to the previous recalls. It's possible for the pump's nickel plating to come off and cause increased friction. Eventually, this can result in the component's failure. According to documents from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (as a PDF, here), there are no reports of accidents or injuries from this issue in the VW Group models. Bosch spokesperson Linda Beckmeyer tells Autoblog that these vehicles don't all necessary share an identical fuel pump, but the parts all use the same plating process. The problem also prompted repairs of the 2014 Ford Escape several months ago, she indicated. When asked if the issue could prompt more campaigns, Beckmeyer said that she "can't speak to that" because automakers decide on the recalls. Owners should receive notice of the problem soon, but according to the NHTSA documentation, there currently aren't enough pumps to fix all of these vehicles. "Bosch is working closely with automakers regarding replacement parts," Beckmeyer said. When available, dealers will replace the components free of charge for affected customers. SUMMARY: Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain model year 2015 Volkswagen Golf, GTI, and Audi A3 vehicles. Improper nickel plating of components within the fuel pump may result in the fuel pump failing. CONSEQUENCE: If the fuel pump fails, the vehicle will not start, or if the engine is running, it will stop and the vehicle will stall, increasing the risk of a crash. REMEDY: Volkswagen will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the vehicles and replace any affected fuel pumps, free of charge.

Recharge Wrap-up: Volkswagen Sustainability Council meets, Zee.Aero flying car spotted?

Wed, Oct 26 2016

The Volkswagen Sustainability Council held its inaugural meeting in Berlin. Made up of nine international experts, the council will advise VW and take action on its own as it sees fit. In the meeting, the council decided that in 2017 it will focus on tackling CO2 emissions, planning for post-2025 regulations, and assisting the automaker's "transformation from car manufacturer to mobility services provider," as VW Chairman Matthias Muller puts it. Volkswagen has approved 20 million euros (about $21.75 million) in funding for Sustainability Council projects for its first two years. "We are fully aware of the large transformation that lays ahead Volkswagen Group," says George Kell, Sustainability Council Chair and Founding Director of UN Global Compact. "We were invited to be part of this journey and are very much looking forward on being actively involved in the development of this journey." Read more at Green Car Congress, or from Volkswagen. Honda plans to ramp up its share of hybrids sold in the US. In response to increasingly strict emissions standards, the company wants electrified vehicles (including hybrid, plug-in hybrid, battery electric, and fuel cell vehicles) to make up two-thirds of Honda and Acura sales in US by 2030. Some analysts are skeptical, though. Christopher Richter of CLSA Asia-Pacific Markets says that dealers are telling Honda they don't want hybrids. "Unless there's a change in what dealers want, I don't think they are going to get there that fast," Richter says. Read more at Automotive News. Witnesses report spotting what could possibly be the Zee.Aero electric aircraft at Hollister Airport in California. Zee.Aero, a startup funded by Google cofounder Larry Page, has a hangar at that airport, where a photo was taken of the aircraft in question. The craft is said to be capable of vertical takeoff and landing and can fit in a one-car garage, earning it the "flying car" moniker. Eyewitness Saul Gomez described the aircraft as "quiet" and "hovering 20, 25 feet off the ground." Read more at Electrek, and watch the interview at Mercury News.
