The listing description has changed, please read carefully....I have owned this beetle for 43 years (since high school).  It is time to let it go.  It is nice, but not mint, and not a beater.  It runs well, drives well.  It has a factory fresh (5,000 miles) 1500 single port engine and a 1964 full synchromesh 4 speed transmission.  There are drips from the transmission, but it shifts well and correct (no popping out of gear).  It has one repaint in the mid 70's so it has patina, but not original patina.  Interior has recovered front seats and the rest is original, including all original interior paint.  It has new West Coast Metric rubber mats.  Front seats were restored about 35 years ago. Pictures tell the story.  It was rear-ended before I got it in 1971 and has a later (incorrect) rear apron and a repair to the drivers side wheel well with a sheet metal overlay.  I can take pictures of this, but it will be a few days. There is an old sheet metal repair under the battery.  There is virtually no other rust on the car. Front apron is damage free.  It has aftermarket bumpers front and rear.  All fenders are correct, hood (bonnet) is early 60's but basically correct, rear deck lid is original and correct.  The tires are near new B.F. Goodrich radials from Coker Tire about 17 years ago but have not had any UV exposure so should be fine. The sliding factory sunroof is in great shape and the top mechanism slides and locks as it should.  The soft top material was replaced in the mid 70's and is still nearly perfect: no tears and minor even fading.    I will answer all questions to the best of my ability. I am a major VW nut and letting this go is very tough.  It gets a lot of attention.

HERE ARE THE IMPORTANT CHANGES:

1) The ski racks on the rear grills ARE INCLUDED.

2) The roof rack in the pictures IS INCLUDED.

3) ALSO INCLUDED IS A REBUILDABLE 36HP ENGINE AND SPLIT CASE TRANSAXLE.

It has a Bendix AM - FM push button radio that works well.

NOTE: The Porsche Cabriolet in the pictures is NOT INCLUDED! Duh!

Vintage Washington State Plates are NOT INCLUDED. I will add more pictures in a couple days.

These are all I have right now.  If you want to contact a local appraiser I will make the car available at my home for their inspection OR after a non-refundable deposit of $500 is made I will transport to an inspector of your choice within 100 miles of my home in Cle Elum, WA State.
NOTE: I reserve the right to end this auction at any time for any reason at my discretion.  I always add blue Marine Stabil to the gas every fill-up and battery is always on Battery Tender. This insures that it is always ready to go.

The hottest modern sports cars rendered as rally racers

Thu, Jan 14 2016

The modern-day World Rally Championship a monumental amount of fun to watch – I should know, as I recently was lucky enough to head to the UK to watch WRC Wales Rally GB – but even the most monstrous of the current WRC cars are based on fairly pedestrian European hatchbacks. Back in the heyday of rally, the Group B era in the 1980s, much hotter cars were the basis of even more incredible competition machines, for the most part. Take the exotic Ford RS200, or the Lancia Delta S4 with its twin-charged engine. And the hatchback-based Group B cars were bonkers, too. So what would some of our favorite modern cars look like if Group B had never ended? A British site named CarWow hired an artist to reimagine everything from the Rolls-Royce Wraith to the Porsche 911 as a retro-inspired rally car, and they were kind enough to let us share the results in the gallery above. The gallery features an Alfa Romeo Giulia in Martini livery, an Audi TT in classic Ur-Quattro colors, a Fiat 500 Abarth sporting massive flares and a hood blister full of auxiliary lights, a new Ford Mustang in RS200 livery, a Lancia Delta in Alitalia colors, a Porsche 911 in Rothmans livery, a Renault-Alpine in classic blue, a Rolls-Royce Wraith tribute to the Jules cologne Corniche Coupe, and a relatively modern-looking VW Touran. So far, the favorite around the office is the incredible Mercedes-Benz S-Class that is an homage to the wonderful 300 SEL 6.8 AMG "Red Pig" that essentially put AMG on the map. Check out the gallery above and see which one you like the best. Related Video:

VW Chattanooga plant very close to UAW representation

Tue, 11 Nov 2014

After months of fighting from both sides, it looks like the Volkswagen factory in Chattanooga, TN, might unionize under the United Auto Workers after all. According to a letter acquired by The Associated Press, VW and the UAW reportedly struck a deal last spring where the union agreed to stop its challenge of the organization vote with the National Labor Relations Board to help clear the way for the CrossBlue to be produced in Tennessee. In exchange, the automaker would recognize the UAW at the plant. Leaders of the Local 42 at the facility reportedly signed the letter.
It seems that such an agreement would clear the way for the factory to unionize after months of dispute. According to The Detroit News, under Tennessee law, workers aren't required to join the organization. Although, that might not be a problem. As of a few months ago, Local 42 already claimed to have signed around 700 of the plant's roughly 1,500 workers.
Controversy has constantly swirled around the possible unionization at the Chattanooga plant. The UAW held its official decision in February and lost 712 to 626. However, there were allegations of intense political pressure to make sure the ballot failed. A later report also found that VW was offered $300 million in incentives well before the vote to make sure things progressed to the "satisfaction of the State of Tennessee," but the deal was later retracted. In July, the UAW opened Local 42 on the campus in hopes of signing up a majority of the workforce by volunteering to be a part of it.

Jaguar Land Rover seeks to block U.S. imports of Porsche, Audi, Lamborghini, VW SUVs

Fri, Nov 20 2020

You wouldn’t know it was about Jags and Lambos, to judge by its rather dry name: In the Matter of Certain Vehicle Control Systems. But thatÂ’s the complaint Jaguar Land Rover Automotive Plc filed on Thursday to block U.S. imports of Porsche, Lamborghini, Audi and Volkswagen sport utility vehicles it says are using its patented Terrain Response technology without permission. Jaguar Land Rover, a British carmaker owned by IndiaÂ’s Tata Motors Ltd., said in its filing with the U.S. International Trade Commission that the technology helps negotiate a “broad range of surfaces” and is a key feature in JaguarÂ’s F-Pace and Land Rover Discovery vehicles. “JLR seeks to protect itself and its United States operations from companies that have injected infringing products into the U.S. market that incorporate, without any license from JLR, technology developed by JLR and protected by its patent,” JaguarÂ’s lawyer, Matthew Moore, said in the filing. Representatives of Volkswagen didnÂ’t immediately respond to emails seeking comment on the complaint. Jaguar wants to block imports of PorscheÂ’s Cayenne; LamborghiniÂ’s Urus; AudiÂ’s Q8, Q7, Q5, A6 Allroad and e-tron vehicles; and VWÂ’s Tiguan vehicles. It said there are plenty of other luxury midsize SUV and compact crossover vehicles to meet consumer demand if the SUVs are banned from the U.S. Still, the premium Porsche and Audi lines provide much of the profit VW is using to fund its investments in technology for electric vehicles, autonomous vehicles and further innovations. In addition to the four brands, Volkswagen Group owns other upscale nameplates, including Bentley and Bugatti. The International Trade Commission is an independent, quasi-judicial agency that investigates complaints of unfair trade practices, like patent infringement. It canÂ’t award damages but does have the power to block products from entering the U.S. Owners of patents and trade secrets like it because it can work faster than the federal district courts -- the typical investigation is completed in 15 to 18 months. But Jaguar also filed patent lawsuits against the companies in federal courts in Delaware and New Jersey, seeking cash compensation for the use of the technology. Those cases are likely to be put on hold once the trade commission launches its investigation. The case is In the Matter of Certain Vehicle Control Systems, 337-3508, U.S. International Trade Commission (Washington).
