Finish my project: A conversion Spitfire/GT6: 1965 Spitfire body into a Triumph GT6 chassis. It's equipped with a 2.0L six-cylinder engine, twin Solex 150CD carburators, four-speed manual transmission and the desirable Rotoflex rear suspension. The engine starts easily, runs strong and does not burn oil. The transmission shifts smoothly. The body is clean and the chassis straight. Some new parts include an upgraded Pertronix electronic ignition, new coil and spark plug wires, new tires and 13" Panasport-type wheels. I also have new lowering springs, interior carpet set, seat upholstery and foam.

The car will still need a few items to complete. Seat frames are available but not yet installed. A new top would be needed if all-weather projection is desired. I was planning to build the car with a custom low windshield, so the top was not a priority. Carb, fuel or ignition tuning will be needed to optimize power through the rev range. It makes great power in first gear, but bogs in higher gears. The paint is driver quality but decent. The front valence panel will need to be painted and installed.

Overall, this little Spit offers a great, classic sports car experience and the sound from the 2.0L straight six is fantastic. I wish I could keep, but another car project forces the sale.

Jaguar F Type V6 S vs Triumph Street Triple R in open-air track attack

Sun, 21 Sep 2014

Typically, these track battle videos pair up car against car or, in more disparate circumstances, car versus crossover, as we saw the other day. While the outcome of that battle was quite predictable, what'll happen when an equally fetching (and fast) four-wheeler is put up against one of the icons of the two-wheeled world? Evo just had to find out.
Matching up a Jaguar F-Type V6 S Convertible against a Triumph Street Triple R is at least more of an even fight than the last battle between the Porsche Cayman GTS and Macan Turbo. The Triumph has a 675-cc engine to work with, and is very light. Meanwhile, the Jag has a thumping 380-horsepower, 3.0-liter, supercharged V6 to haul about it's considerably heftier heft. Who will come out on top?
You'll need to watch the full video to find out.
