Great Toyota Truck 4-banger w/ manual transmission for sale. This truck was a desert truck brought to the coast about one year ago, so rust free body. It is lots of fun around town and will go highway speeds with great gas mileage. The truck body is straight and sound, dent free, and the engine was replaced (or rebuilt) and has many new parts. Bought from previous owner who needed an automatic for his wife, now I need to upgrade for a larger vehicle. Runs, drives, and looks great considering its age.

NO RESERVE!
(see similar from $2250-$4750)

Year: 1988
Model: short-bed pick-up; 4 cylinder
Transmission: manual, 2wd
Engine: the incredible 22r!
Tires: oversized with lots of tread

GOOD: replaced original bench seat with two racing bucket seats in great condition (bench seat also included); two new speakers and brand new stereo head unit with USB and AUX; clutch is smooth and never gives any problems; gears all work great; starts and runs every time (occasionally needs two or three early morning turns of the key after sitting); new tailgate net (metal gate and hardware included- gate came off later model but works); new rear taillights; brand new windshield wipers; NO leaks or oil burn; recent black bed liner; recent body spray gray (not perfect but looks good); recent interior black liner spray; new rubber mats. All around good reliable vehicle! These are undoubtedly the most reliable trucks ever built and will last forever (look online at reviews or just look around the streets and you'll see they are still everywhere because they run forever). Passed smog no problem 3 months ago- if sold to CA resident will come with new smog certificate.

NOT AS GOOD: just light wear and tear considering a 25 year old truck. Odometer is incorrect, a previous owner replaced engine and/or engine rebuild- he reported around 145,000 miles on engine since then. This model has air-conditioner which turns on but needs repair. Not a power steering model, but good alignment. Random increases in temperature- only happens some days- I believe it needs either a new thermostat or coolant bleed as it has a new radiator (common issue) but I'm not a mechanic and don't know for sure.

All around great condition old truck that runs great. Would love to keep as a second toy but have a motorcycle and just purchased new vehicle for commute to work. This toy must go.

Also listed locally.

Please email any questions. Sold "as is". Take to a local mechanic if you want professional review BEFORE buying only.
(Auto check rates low based on high mileage on body, even though lower mileage engine, and I don't know about the 'minor incident' as this truck has no evidence of any accident.)

2017 Scion FR-S getting slight power bump?

Tue, May 12 2015

A common refrain when discussing the Scion FR-S and its sibling the Subaru BRZ is that they are capable vehicles but are in need of more power. The latest rumors suggest that some more muscle might finally be on the way for the coupe's refresh. Don't expect something like the STI Performance Concept with a 300-horsepower, turbocharged flat-four, though – the gains in the real world are likely to be significantly more modest. According to Toyota insiders speaking with Motoring in Australia, the local Toyota GT86 (our FR-S) is due for a styling and powertrain refresh for the next model year. The 2.0-liter boxer four-cylinder engine isn't expected to get a drastic power increase, but it's not being completely neglected. A new intake manifold and friction reductions reportedly allow for five percent more grunt. If accurate, and if the changes also come here, that would take output of the US version to 210 hp and 159 pound-feet of torque. The adjustments could improve fuel economy by seven percent, as well. Handling is already a forte for the FR-S and BRZ, and things could get even better with this refresh. Motoring claims that dampers from Sachs might become standard equipment, along with a reinforced subframe. The close relationship with the BRZ reportedly rules out any dramatic changes to the styling for this update. However, the coupe is still likely to wear a new hood with vents in it, reshaped headlights, and a revised fascia with a larger lower grille. At the rear, expect a rear diffuser and exhaust pipes at the corners. While minor compared to all of these rumored updates, Scion recently gave the FR-S a few tweaks in the US for the 2016 model year (pictured above). In addition to some new colors and interior trim, it now comes standard with a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system and rearview camera.

Toyota unveils two new small displacement engines

Thu, 10 Apr 2014

Toyota introduced a pair of brand-new engines in Japan today, that it says will eventually spawn 14 different variants by 2015. Where these two engines stand out in today's world, is that neither mill boasts direct injection, and both are naturally aspirated.
The larger of the two is a 1.3-liter, while the smaller engine, a 1.0-liter, was developed in collaboration with Daihatsu. What makes these two unique is that they both use the Atkinson cycle. Now, we aren't going to bore you by explaining just what this is - there's Google for that. Suffice it to say, Atkinson engines are highly efficient, but that efficiency comes by sacrificing power. That's why they're so popular in hybrids, which can offset the power losses.
This focus on fuel efficiency extends throughout the new engines, which also benefit from tweaks like a cooled exhaust gas recirculation system and a trick intake port, while the 1.3 employs Toyota's iE variant of variable valve timing. Both engines can be fitted with stop-start tech. According to Toyota, when fitted with stop-start the 1.3 should provide around a 15-percent bump while the 1.0-liter will increase economy around 30 percent, when they arrive on the road.

Recharge Wrap-up: Model X pinch sensor update, Karma plans first store

Fri, Aug 26 2016

Tesla has improved Model X pinch sensor function in its latest over-the-air update. As we've seen, the pinch sensors already stop the falcon wing doors from completely shutting when they sense an obstruction. Now, though, the doors retract slightly after the sensors are triggered. While the pre-update doors didn't appear to do as much damage to human fingers as they do to various foodstuffs, it definitely looked uncomfortable, especially when one's hand is stuck in the partially closed door. Now, any pinch that does occur should be brief. See the updated sensors at work in the video above, and read more from Teslarati. Karma Automotive will move to Kawasaki's former headquarters in Irvine, California where it will also open its first store. The revival of the now defunct Fisker will sell its Revero plug-in hybrid through both dealerships and company-owned stores like the one planned for its new two-building campus. The property owner, Bixby, had planned to renovate the site, but now says Karma will make its own improvements. Bixby said it was seeking, "a progressive-minded tenant that would value the unique configuration," and appears to have found just that in Karma. Read more at Electrek, or from the OC Register. San Francisco is asking residents for help in expanding its subways. Using an online tool called Subway Vision, users can draw their own subway lines and stations that they'd like to see built and submit them to planners. Listening to the public is a useful tool for the city because, as Grahm Satterwhite, San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency's principal planner, admits, "Transportation planners may be too close to a problem to see the solution." This approach allows the subway expansions to "reflect the vision of not just a few transportation planners, but of all San Franciscans," he says. Read more from FastCo.Exist. Toyota is continuing its commitment to Yellowstone National Park with a sustainable Youth Campus for environmental education. The automaker donated $1 million to Yellowstone for the facility, which is seeking Living Building Challenge certification. It will have onsite wastewater treatment for its locally sourced water usage, and will generate all of its electricity needs from photovoltaic panels, with excess to put back into the grid. The campus will have classrooms and residences for students and staff for its youth programs.
