 1995 Toyota Tacoma 22RE 4 Cylinder 4x4 5 speed. 75k miles!!! One owner!!!
Everything on this truck is factory original except the radiator and rear bumper (and the awesome heavy duty diamond plated tool boxes in the bed. They must weigh at least 50 lbs each). The radio, suspension, motor, paint and body, everything!!! Even has the sticker on the spare tire original from the factory!!! The under carriage has no scratches or dents. It passed smog with flying colors (the guys at the smog shop were amazed!!!). This truck drives just as smooth and solid as it did when it rolled off the factory line 18 years ago. Its amazing how well it drives. No noises, rattles, hesitations or anything. The doors shut just as solid as new. I would drive this cross-country and beyond without hesitation today. It has been meticulously taken care of and it shows. It is hard to find this drivetrain combination is such original and great shape.

So why am I selling?…… I have been looking for a truck exactly like this for years, and couldn't find any as clean and as well documented. Not many exist like this anymore. Then this one became available from a local San Diego estate sale. It was a one owner truck. The owner was an 85 year old pilot who towed it behind his motorhome. You could tell that he loved this truck. He must have babied it everywhere. I was first to see it and I couldn't say no. I took it to a local mechanic to get a pre-purchase inspection just incase. They said it was in exceptional condition and that they have never seen anything like this before. There are a few scratches and minor dents, but thats it after 18 years. They said its never been painted or had any body panels replaced. They tested all systems including the 4 wheel drive and air conditioner and had nothing but good things to say. All 4x4 systems are in excellent shape and the A/C cools off right away!!! The only thing that they noticed were two small chips in the windshield (see pictures) and that the valve cover leaks a little (not the head, but valve cover) (which is a characteristic of the 22RE and as long as its not leaking when parked, which it doesn't. They recommended to just leave as is). The shop took pictures of the brakes and all oils. Which all look recently replaced.

The original owner kept a lot of maintenance records, which show a new clutch and new brakes within the last 2k miles. Included in the paper work is the original owners manual  for the truck, stereo, and the camper shell. I have the original receipt for the camper shell and the bumper which he purchased a few days after he bought the truck. I even have the original credit application, contract, due bill, DMV paper work and the trade-in information on his previous Toyota pickup he traded in!!! So, knowing all of this and seeing all of this I had to purchase it. But, I am in the middle of purchasing a home. If I get what I think it is worth, I will sell it and move on (Half the fun was finding it and knowing I got it). If not, I will sell my 96 2wd Tacoma with low miles and drive this for 200k miles and not regret it.

If you have any questions, email me and I will get back to you. If you want to talk over the phone send me your number and I will get back to you. If you are local you can come take a look at it and send it to your mechanic. If you want me to store it or help with delivery I will if its reasonable and we talk prior and make arrangements first (as long as funds are already transferred).

As far as payment, I will accept cash, wire transfer, cashiers check, or we can go through escrow with escrow.com only (you pay the fee).

Successor to the Toyota 86 is on the way

Thu, Dec 8 2016

Until now, Toyota and Subaru have been mum on the prospect of a follow up to the Toyota 86 and Subaru BRZ. Although both cars received mild refreshes and even milder power bumps, they're both essentially the same cars that hit the market nearly five years ago. It appears a successor is indeed on the way, as Autocar confirms that Toyota is developing a next-gen 86. Karl Schlicht, executive vice-president at Toyota Motor Europe, said that the 86 will live on past the current generation. "The car serves a big purpose," Schlicht said. "We are not getting out of that business. Sporty cars go through their phases. It's our intention to continue with that car." Toyota seems to be back in the sports car business, as the company has partnered with BMW on a new Supra. Like the current Toyota 86, it seems likely that the successor will be co-developed with Subaru. Schlicht says that to get the low center of gravity and the handling characteristics that come along with it, a horizontally opposed engine is a necessity. He admits that there is no firm confirmation of a commitment from Subaru. While no Schlicht gave no details about the new car, he did nix any possibility of a convertible variant. "We wouldn't do it on the current model," he said. "That doesn't mean dealers wouldn't like one, but there are so many other priorities that I don't think we've got spare capacity for that." 10 automakers sued over keyless ignitions

Thu, Aug 27 2015

Keyless ignition has rapidly proliferated throughout the auto industry to become a fairly normal feature on new cars. It's supposed to offer the convenience of keeping the fob in your pocket and just pressing a button to drive away. However, ten major automakers are now being sued in US District Court over claims that the system is dangerous, Reuters reports. The suit alleges that people are forgetting to shut off the engine, and the lack of an idle timer is the cause for 13 deaths by carbon monoxide poisoning and multiple injuries. The suit currently includes 28 plaintiffs, according to Reuters, but the lawyers are asking for class-action status to potentially add many more. The case goes after a major swath of the industry, including BMW, Daimler, FCA, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Nissan, Toyota, and Volkswagen, plus their related brands like Acura, Infiniti, Mini, and Lexus. In all, over five million vehicles are affected. The assertion here is that people walk away from their vehicle without shutting it off because they believe the engine shuts off automatically. If parked in a garage, carbon monoxide can build up, leading to poisoning. The lawyers claim automakers know this is a problem and also cite 27 complaints to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration about the issue, according to Reuters. The plaintiffs are asking for an automatic shut-off and damages from the companies. These concerns have come up before, though. Toyota previously faced a lawsuit over a carbon monoxide death after a woman accidentally left her Lexus running. Also earlier this year, GM recalled 64,186 examples of the 2011-2013 Chevrolet Volt because owners weren't shutting them off. The problem resulted in two injuries, and the company released a software update to limit the idling time.

Average transaction prices climb to a record $36,270 in January

Sat, Feb 3 2018

The automotive sector made a hash of the numbers last month, a mess of pluses and minuses clogging the transaction-price charts according to Kelley Blue Book. The overall industry rose one percent, even though buyers bought fewer cars and light vehicles in January 2018 vs 2017 using the selling-day adjusted rate. Due to January transaction prices rising to $36,270, a record for January, the value of new vehicles sold climbed more than $1 billion compared to January 2017. KBB's transaction prices don't include customer incentives, which changes the complexion slightly; average incentive spending rose to just over ten percent. The average transaction price in December 2017 was $36,756, so January dropped a bit - nothing unexpected, with the month annually blamed for "January doldrums." More revealing is the fact that the average transaction price in January 2017 was $34,910. This year's plumped-up figure came courtesy of the continued shift to crossovers, SUVs, and light trucks, which shouldn't surprise anyone who's read an automotive blog in the past 20 years. That category comprised nearly 70 percent of new vehicle sales for the month. Some manufacturers profited more than others, though. Fiat Chrysler managed 12.8 percent fewer sales in January compared year-on-year, but the company's vehicles sold for $1,300 more. The Ford brand suffered a 6.3-percent dip in sales, but brand transaction prices increased $2,000, while a Lincoln sold for $8,700 more on average. General Motors sold more cars and sold them for more money; overall GM transaction prices rose four percent, or $1,270, while a GMC traded hands for seven-percent more than in January 2017 and a Cadillac got $2,300 more on average. Of KBB's listed automakers, the Volkswagen Group got the most of out its customers, transaction prices rising at the German automaker by 5.6 percent to $42,243 in January 2018 compared to a year earlier. American Honda followed with a 4.3-percent increase to $28,991, GM in third at 4.1 percent to $40,313. Find your next car at Autoblog using our new and used car listings or the Car Finder tool. Broken out by segment, minivans rocked the table, transaction prices leaping by 7.9 percent to $35,380 compared to January a year earlier. Luxury cars boasted the next-highest rise, at 3.6 percent to $58,533.
