TacomaHQ is proud to offer a super clean, very low mileage, and hard to find 1999 Toyota Rav4 L 4x4.  This truck has only had One Owner since brand new in 1999.  It was just traded into a local Toyota dealership on a new Rav4 and we were able to purchase it directly from them.  It has a clean Autocheck vehicle history report, and it was never smoked in.

The exterior is in beautiful condition.  The "Natural White" paint shines absolutely beautiful.  There are only a couple extremely small dings here or there.  There aren't any other dents or scratches to mention.  There isn't any rust at all on the body.  The undercarriage is in nice shape as well, with no leaks.

The interior is in excellent shape as well.  The carpets, seats, dashboard, glass, and headliner are all clean.  There aren't any smoke smells, burns, or marks anywhere inside.  There is also an unused cigarette lighter.  All of the electronics are functioning properly.

This Rav4 has some nice features and options!

- 2.0L 4-Cylinder Engine

- Automatic Transmission

- All-Wheel-Drive

- Ice Cold Air Conditioning

- Power Windows, Locks, and Mirrors

- Power Sunroof

- Tilt Steering

- Alloy Wheels

- Dual Airbags

- Rear Wiper/Washer/Defrost

This Rav4 runs and drives excellent.  Everything works as it should.  The 4-Cylinder engine starts instantly and runs perfect.  The transmission shifts very smooth.  The truck goes straight down the road with no shakes, rattles, or pulls.  The brakes stop great with no pulsations as well.  The 4 Matching BF Goodrich long trail T/A tires are wearing evenly and have around 65-70% tread depth remaining.

I have 2 Keys, 1 Remote, the full owners manual set w/case, the full size spare tire, jack, tools, and a clean/clear title.

Toyota R&D shows off free piston engine linear generator for future EVs

Thu, May 1 2014

We often hear how an electric vehicle powertrain architecture allows vehicle designers much more freedom than a traditional ICE powertrain does. With differently shaped battery modules and small electric motors, there are lots of way to put the pieces together. With today's plug-in hybrid technology, engineers still need to put a decent-sized ICE somewhere, but new technology from Toyota could free up the gas-electric vehicle designers of the future. Presented at the recent SAE World Congress in Detroit, the idea from Toyota Central R&D Labs Inc. and involves what is called a Free Piston Engine Linear Generator (FPEG). Think of it as a sort of one-cylinder, two-stroke mini-engine that can work either as a generator (thank to magnets and a linear coil) or to directly drive a vehicle. The current prototype is a 10-kW unit that Toyota say would provide enough power to get a B- or C-segment electric vehicle up to highway speeds (75 miles per hour) when paired up to offer 20 kW. Pairing the FPEGs is also important to minimize vibrations. One system tested by Toyota had a 42 percent thermal efficiency, but the engineers are working to improve the overall efficiency even further. You can watch an animated video of the piston in action here (click on "Outline") and see the SAE papers here and here. More technical details are available at Green Car Congress. West Coast labor dispute hampers Japanese automakers' US plants

Wed, Feb 18 2015

The ongoing labor dispute between the International Longshore and Warehouse Union and port owners along the West Coast is starting to affect more Japanese automakers building vehicles in the US. The issue already forced Honda and Subaru to take the expensive option of airlifting some parts into the US weeks ago, and according to USA Today, Toyota and Nissan have begun doing so, as well. The choice hasn't been cheap, though, and Subaru's chief financial officer estimated that the decision cost around $60 million more per month than sending components by cargo ship. The effects continue to radiate, according to USA Today, and shortages of some models are possible. Honda is slowing production at its factories in Ohio, Indiana and Canada because the automaker doesn't have enough transmissions and electronics for some vehicles. Toyota already cut back on overtime at some factories. Nissan has only seen a small effect from the issue, though, because of its local suppliers. Dock workers and port owners have been negotiating on a new contract since last year, and the union has organized work slowdowns in response. According to USA Today, the automakers could move shipments to Canada or Mexico, but it would take longer for parts to arrive. Ex-Toyota Bill Reinert still in favor of hybrids, against EVs

Mon, Oct 6 2014

Former Toyota executive Bill Reinert is so unsold on electric vehicles as a viable advanced-powertrain option for future transportation that he has praised – gasp – Ford, for its downsized internal combustion engines. Reinert was a key player in developing Toyota's original Prius hybrid and, in an interview published in Yale University's Environment 360 blog, said a hybrid that gets 60 miles per gallon is superior to an electric vehicle. "And that is why you will be seeing more fuel cells in the future." – Bill Reinert Reinert went on to praise the advances that automakers have made in improving fuel economy of fossil fuel vehicles, specifically namechecking Ford and its three-cylinder Ecoboost engine. He also has good things to say about both hydrogen fuel-cell electric technology as well as natural gas vehicles, but admits that limited fueling infrastructure will keep those types of vehicles in the margins for the near future. He also says that hydrogen vehicles aren't that great yet but that, "When most [manufacturers] investigate the two technologies [H2 and EVs], they see that FVCs offer more room for performance improvement and cost reduction potential. And that is why you will be seeing more fuel cells in the future." As far as pure electric, Reinert says lithium-ion batteries have "tremendous shortcomings" and talks about battery degradation, substandard performance in hot weather and, of course, limited single-charge driving range. He also says that people need to factor in the environmental impact of producing electricity for the grid to fully gauge how environmentally beneficial EVs can be. We'd like to take him and Tesla Motors Chief Elon Musk to what we think would be a spirited lunch. You can read the whole interview with Reinert here.
