This is a nice one owner 2002 Toyota Prius Hybrid. It runs and drives 100%, gets 50+ MPG and is being sold with no reserve.
The 1.5L four cylinder gas/electric hybrid purrs along without a miss, smoke, fluid leak or any other problems. No "check engine" lights, the batteries are charging perfectly and all engine parts are functioning without issue. The automatic transmission is shifting normally without hesitation or slipping. The brakes, suspension and steering work great. No exhaust leaks.
The exterior is a light blue. There are no major dents or dings. The most noticable imperfection is a scratch behind the right rear tire (see pic). The lights and lenses are crack free. No windshield chips or cracks. The tires, on factory alloy wheels, have about 40% tread (see pic). No body rust.
The interior is tan carpet and cloth seats. There are no wear areas on the seats. Both could use a good cleaning to be perfect. All the power options such as windows, locks, cruise control, side mirrors, etc. work as they should. There is a factory sound system with CD and cassette. The heat is hot and the AC is cold. The interior is in good condition but the front arm rest is loose and the glove box door wiggles a little.
This is a great car for the person who is concerned about fuel efficiency but does not have a budget for an expensive hybrid. It has all the same fuel efficient properties as the newer more expensive models. There are no mechanical issues with this car and there is no indication of any impending problems. The new owner will be able to drive this car home, with confidence, no matter where they live.

Toyota asking NHTSA for fuel cell car safety exemption regarding electric shocks
Mon, 30 Jun 2014Toyota is requesting an exemption from federal safety regulations that govern electric cars as it prepares to launch a small-scale hydrogen fuel-cell vehicle fleet.
The Japanese automaker is targeting Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 305, which covers the packaging of high-voltage parts in electric cars. According to Uncle Sam, these systems need to be isolated so that passengers and first responders aren't electrocuted in the event of a crash. That seems pretty smart, but it's become a problem for Toyota's upcoming production fuel cell vehicle, as the mechanism that prevents electric shocks in low-speed crashes will apparently simply keep Toyota's car from even functioning.
Instead of the federally approved system, Bloomberg reports that Toyota plans to insulate the high-voltage wires and cables in the car, along with shielding electrical components like the fuel cells, electric motor and batteries with (presumably non-conductive) metal barriers.
Lexus, Mazda win KBB 5-Year Cost To Own Awards
Wed, 05 Feb 2014We focus a lot on what new cars are like to drive, but it's difficult on a one-week loan to really get a sense of what a car is like to live with. Sure, we try to recreate that sense with our long-term vehicles, but even after a year, it's impossible to know fully learn about a car, particularly in terms of reliability and cost of repairs. For 2014 model year vehicles, Kelley Blue Book has put together a list of the most affordable vehicles over a five-year period.
At the tippy top of the list are Mazda and Lexus, with the Zoom-Zoom automaker winning the award for best non-luxury brand. Lexus, meanwhile, was the most affordable luxury marque over a five-year period. It's interesting to note, though, that not a single Mazda won its segment in this year's awards.
General Motors did quite well, taking eight segments, including both the subcompact and plug-in segments, with the gas-powered Chevrolet Spark and Spark EV. The Chevy Camaro SS and ZL1 took the high-performance car award. Toyota was well represented, with five winners split between the main brand (Corolla, Prius C and Tacoma) and Lexus (LS and RX).
