After some long thinking I've decided to put my MR2 Turbo up for sale.  I just don't drive her enough with all my kids so I need something bigger.  This is the 4th MR2 that I've owned and by far the best. 152,xxx miles on the odometer.  White exterior on black/grey leather interior.   I'm the 3rd owner and have had the car for about 4 years.  She is "lightly modded" with a Twos R Us manual boost controller (see photo) and a K&N air filter intake.  Other than that, the engine is stock and completely dependable.  With the boost at stock levels the car is fast, with it turned up to 12 it really flies and pulls strong.

I've recently done a complete tune up (new cap/rotor/plugs/fuel filter), changed transmission oil (Redline MT-90), flushed and replaced coolant (Toyota Red), and done an oil/filter change.  The car doesn't need any work to be a daily driver or weekend funster.

Other upgrades include: New 2-tone leather seating surfaces (black with grey inserts) and shift boot.  New MR2 floor mats from Twos R Us.  EMS digital boost gauge integrated into dash (where stock gauge was located) JVC touch screen DVD system with full iPod/iPhone connectivity and Bluetooth for music, phone and navigation along with back-up camera.  The 600 watt Jenson amp and Bazooka Tube subwoofer makes the stereo sound great for those drives with the T-tops off.    B&M short shifter.  The AC has had the conversion to R134a and works great. New battery.   The car is complete and everything works.  I even still have the original sunshades and storage bags for the T-tops.

The exterior looks great with only a few barely visible dings.(tried to show some in photos)  No dents or scratches. Upgraded '94+ tail lights.  Aftermarket Momo wheels over 205/50ZR16 Goodyear Eagle F1 Z rated tires that are fairly new.   I would give the exterior a 9/10 and the interior 9.5/10.  The car looks amazing for being 22 years old.

The only quirk about the interior is that I had the leather seats made by an online vendor that manufactures in China.  I sent them a graphic (see photo).  When they enlarged it instead of it reading "Midship Runabout" (as in MR2) they embroidered Mids Hip Runa Bout.  I think it was a language barrier thing.  I doesn't really bother me but it might bug some bidders.  In any event the seats are really high quality leather with double stitching (see photo).

The car does have a salvage title.  Apparently the original owner had an accident where the front bumper needed to be replaced.  There is no visible damage and the car drives straight and handles like it is on rails.

E-mail me with questions or for specific photos. Local buyers are welcome to set up an appointment to take a look or test drive.

Sunday Drive: Big debuts from the Big Apple dominated the headlines

Sun, Apr 1 2018

New York Auto Show week has come and gone, and, not surprisingly, the week's biggest bits of news came from the halls of the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in NYC. Our favorite debut from New York was the Lincoln Aviator, a sharp-dresses crossover that looks lovely inside and out, and sits on underpinnings at least partly derived from the Ford Mustang. While the Aviator may have caught our attention, it wasn't the most popular vehicle debut from New York, at least when judging by the number of page views here on Autoblog. That distinction goes to the 2019 Toyota RAV4, and we're hardly surprised. The RAV4 is the most popular compact crossover in America (in fact it's the most popular vehicle that isn't a pickup truck), and the 2019 version looks like a radical departure from the model that came before. We can't wait to drive the thing. Midsize sedans may not be the darling of the family car set, that honor taken over by the aforementioned crossover, but they still sell in large enough numbers that a brand-new model catches our attention. Such is the case with the 2019 Nissan Altima. We broke down the specs of the Altima and compared Nissan's bread-and-butter sedan with its biggest rivals. And finally, we got some official figures for the 2019 Ford Mustang Bullitt. It'll cost a cool $12,000 over the cost of a Mustang GT, and will benefit from a 480-horsepower, 420-pound-foot version of Ford's excellent 5.0-liter V8 engine. As always, stay tuned this week for all the latest automotive news that's fit to print. 2018 New York Auto Show Mega Photo Gallery | Start spreading the news 2019 Toyota RAV4 actually looks pretty cool 2019 Nissan Altima vs Honda Accord vs Toyota Camry: How they compare 2019 Mustang Bullitt orders open as Ford reveals price and horsepower Image Credit: Drew Angerer/Getty New York Auto Show Ford Lincoln Nissan Toyota Coupe Crossover SUV Sedan 2018 new york auto show

Toyota fires bullets into hydrogen fuel tanks, shoots down EV supporters

Thu, Jan 16 2014

Many gearheads will remember that the 1970s-era Dodge Dart's claim to fame was that its motor was so durable (though not necessarily powerful) that one could shoot bullets into the engine block. Decades later, Toyota has taken a page out of that testing process. "Personally, I don't care what Elon [Musk] says about fuel cells." With some industry members and analysts questioning both the viability and durability of hydrogen fuel-cell electric vehicles, Toyota executive Bob Carter, speaking at the Automotive News World Congress this week, says the Japanese automaker went all Clint Eastwood on the fuel tanks of a fuel-cell prototype. Carter says that bullets from a small-caliber gun bounced off the carbon-fiber tanks, and that .50-caliber bullets barely made dents. The shoot-out motif kept going when Carter name-checked executives from Tesla, Nissan and Volkswagen in saying that he didn't care if other automakers question the future of fuel-cell vehicles. As you can see in the prepared text of Carter's speech below, he said, "Personally, I don't care what Elon [Musk], Carlos [Ghosn] or Jonathan [Browning] say about fuel cells. If they want to 'plug in and tune out' other technologies, that's fine." After debuting it in Tokyo late last year, Toyota showed off its FCV fuel-cell concept vehicle at the Detroit Auto Show this week as it get ready to start sales "around 2015." The car has a 300-mile range and should be priced somewhere between $50,000 and $100,000. Autoblog drove Toyota's fuel-cell prototypes last year, and you can read our impressions here. 2014 Automotive News World Congress- Bob Carter January 14, 2014 As prepared for: Automotive News World Congress Tuesday, January 14, 2014 Bob Carter, Senior Vice President, Automotive Operations, Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc. _________________ Thanks, Keith and good afternoon everyone. You know, I've been in the car business for more than 30 years, but I'm more excited about it now than EVER before Why? Because for the first time in Toyota's history, we did something here we've NEVER done before. We shocked people by unveiling two great looking, fun-to-drive cars that blow a hole in the theory that Toyota only builds "appliances". Just yesterday, we unveiled Toyota's newest concept, the FT-1 sports car. I'm already getting people asking me when they can get their hands on one. The FT-1 represents the latest in our heritage of sports cars like the 2000GT, Celica, Supra and most recently, the FR-S.

Toyota GT86 engineers explored shooting brake and sedan variants, are they still in the cards?

Wed, 13 Mar 2013

According to the Toyota UK blog, engineers for the automaker were so excited developing the GT86 coupe that they investigated producing a whole family of models based on the rear-wheel drive sports car. And at least one engineer - product chief Tetsuya Tada - still hopes it can happen, even if not everyone at Toyota is onboard. Tada: "Actually we tried to do this secretly but the executives found us out. They said: 'What are you doing? Will you please focus on the coupe.'"
Those mooted variants included both a four-door sedan and a shooting brake. Why? Aside from the pure excellence of a lightweight, brilliantly handling hatchback, Toyota was keenly aware of the fact that it may need to spread the cost of development out across several models. Tada says that's part of the reason why it was so easy to create the convertible. The company knew from the outset that a softtop version was in the cards, and built the machine's structure to accommodate having the roof sliced off.
Tada also made mention of the already-announced collaboration between Toyota and BMW. The engineer said that the GT86 was particularly helpful because it demonstrated just how successful a product conceived and designed by two different companies can be. While he didn't say exactly what Toyota and BMW are up to, it's clear the two are looking into a number of possibilities. It's an interesting read with a lot of
