Imported from Arizona in the late 1990s and had been serviced at Kingsway Lexus Toyota by the previous owner. Never been raced and always owned by mature owners to my knowledge. No knowledge of work on engine and transmission other than routine service work. Timing belt done about 30,000-40,000 miles ago, and struts on all four corners replaced just before sale to me in September last year, although my mechanic told me that the rear passenger side shock might be leaking a bit. Installed a brand new power steering rack, driver side seatbelt and high amp battery in April 2014.

I have driven it maybe 1,000 kilometers since I had it. The car has zero drivability issues to my knowledge. It also has remote start but doesn’t work although the key-less entry works fine. In tracing the inoperative driver side door courtesy light we found that it has no ground, and that may also explain why the power mirrors don’t work. Has some white rust stabilizer applied to a small patch of surface rust on the lower corner of the driver's door and a year later it looks like the rust has been stabilized. A couple of small dings on roof. A leather patch on the driver's seat bottom and split in the passenger side seat bottom. A/C needs recharge. The driver side fog light has a crack in the lens, and needs a reverse light switch. Tires are 195/55 R15 all seasons with 50% left on the fronts and 75% on the rears for a rough estimate.

I have owned several classics and even though I wouldn’t claim it to be mint I don’t have any hesitation in saying that this is by far one of the best well looked after cars particularly at this mileage. I have described the condition of the vehicle to the best of my ability, but please use it as a guide and arrange to have it inspected or ask questions if you need any clarification.

Does Scion's LA concept presage a US Auris?

Tue, 28 Oct 2014

When the doors open at the LA Auto Show in a few weeks, Scion will be on hand to showcase its new iM Concept. But considering what little Toyota's youthful brand has revealed about the concept so far, it's led to rampant speculation. And the prevailing wisdom seems to point towards a production iM arriving as a Scion-badged version of the Toyota Auris.
For those unfamiliar, the Auris is to European (and other) markets essentially what the Matrix is (was?) to ours: a hatchback version of the Corolla. The model line was first introduced in 2006, looking in its first iteration like an overgrown version of the contemporary second-gen Yaris, and was replaced with the current model in 2012. It's available as a five-door hatch or wagon, with a range of gasoline, diesel and hybrid powertrains available.
If the rumors - spurred by the similarity of the iM concept's nose depicted in the teasers - prove accurate, and public reception to the idea ends up spurring Toyota to put it into action, it wouldn't be the first overseas Toyota brought over as a Scion. The Scion iQ was sold as the Toyota iQ overseas years before it arrived here.

2013 Toyota RAV4 earns 'poor' rating in IIHS small overlap crash test [w/video]

Thu, 11 Jul 2013

When the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety tested a batch of SUVs in its small overlap frontal crash test earlier this year, it held off on putting the Toyota RAV4 in the blender because the new, 2013 model was due to arrive shortly after the test. The new crossover might be better than it was before, but it could still only manage a rating of "Poor" in the test that has been a bugbear for a number of manufacturers.
Among other issues, the IIHS noted that the steering column moved seven inches to the right causing the crash test dummy to practically miss the airbag, the dummy's left foot was trapped in deformed sheetmetal and the dummy's head hit the instrument panel.
The 2013 RAV4 earned the Top Safety Pick rating by scoring well in the Institute's four other tests. A good score in this particular test would have earned it the Top Safety Pick+ rating that is so far only claimed by the 2014 Subaru Forester and 2013 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport in the SUV category. There's a press release below with more details and a video of the test.

Volkswagen could outsell GM in China for the first time in nine years

Fri, 27 Dec 2013

As of the end of November, Volkswagen had sold 70,000 more cars than General Motors in China in 2013, making it appear inevitable that VW will outsell GM there. The feat would return the German brand to the top of chart in China for the first time in nine years, but even the second-place getter won't be complaining too loudly: both automakers sold more than three million vehicles in a market pegged to hit 16 million sales this year.
Volkswagen said it could have sold more cars if it had had more production capacity in China. The arrival of a new-to-China Audi A4, a China-built A3 sedan, the VW Bora and Skoda Octavia, as well as an $18.2-billion-euro investment in the country to construct new factories, means VW should see its numbers grow in 2014. GM's lineup is expanding next year, too, adding four Chevrolet nameplates and two vehicles to its Baojun brand as it tries to get to five million in sales by 2015.
Among other automakers, Ford benefited from good product and woes for Japanese automakers over a territorial dispute with China, outselling Toyota by almost 32,000 units through the end of November. The Ford Focus is China's best-selling vehicle so far this year.
