We are selling 2 - 1991 Toyota MR2s together. One is Red and the other is Aquamarine Pearl. They are both basically the same car, just different exterior colors.
The Aquamarine Pearl MR2 has not run in about 11 years. My wife purchased this one in June of 1991 as a dealer demo with 1200 miles and it needs a new electrical luggage wiring harness and a lot of TLC to get this car running again. The engine was replaced March 1999. My wife has always wanted to get this one back on the road again, but 3 children later...we are passing it on for someone else to love, or at least utilize the hard to find parts. The Red MR2, I bought for my wife's 40th birthday - June 2010. The 1st owner was an elderly couple who had purchased the car new for their "extra" vehicle. About 4 1/2 years ago, someone "turned into them" in a parking lot. The passenger door needed to be replaced and the insurance company told them that they were totaling the vehicle, because the brand new door was too expensive to replace. The owner didn't know that they had other options, because once we found out it was a salvage title, my wife called the original owners. They were actually devastated that they could have kept the car and replaced the door with a used one. We purchased the car from the dealer who bought and replaced the door. I have been driving this car back and forth to work over the past couple of years. It is in great running condition and gets excellent gas mileage. For now (and probably another 10 years or so) this season of our lives doesn't include these cars, so hopefully there is someone out there who can love them as much as we do:) |

Toyota's Mirai fuel cell car gets its own special showroom
Wed, Apr 15 2015If the car's unique, the showroom better be as well. That's the approach Toyota is taking with the Mirai, its first production hydrogen fuel-cell electric vehicle. In fact, the model is getting its own special showroom starting this Friday. The Japanese automaker is opening the showroom in Tokyo. The facility takes up two floors totaling about 1,800 square feet and, from the pictures, it looks to have a very Zen-like quality. Toyota will be displaying one Mirai vehicle and will have another vehicle available for public test drives available every Friday. Toyota started selling the Mirai in Japan late last year and has announced plans to debut the car in the US – starting in California – this fall at a base price of $57,500, or a lease option of $499 a month for 36 months ($3,649 is due at signing). Earlier this year, Toyota said it was going to bump production to 2,000 vehicles next year (and 3,000 in 2017) from 700 units this year. With such a ramp-up in store, Toyota will spend about $170 million increasing production capacity of the fuel-cell vehicle. That total probably doesn't take into account the stylish new Tokyo showroom. Toyota responds to video of Highlander ramming house [w/video]
Thu, 18 Apr 2013There are, as they say, two sides to every story, so after we posted a video on Monday showing what an owner claimed to be a case of unintended acceleration causing her Toyota Highlander to crash into a house twice, Toyota reached out to us revealing some additional information about the incident.
Following this crash, which took place back in November, Toyota had this Highlander inspected and pulled data from its Event Data Recorder (EDR), or Black Box as we've come to call it. Not only was this the first time we've seen a claim of unintended acceleration like this caught on video, but now, also a first, we have actual data showing what the vehicle itself recorded during this frightening ordeal.
Brian Lyons, Toyota Communications Manager for Safety and Quality, first gave us some information about the Highlander in question, including the fact that it was a 2012 model. The 2012 Highlander came from the factory with a brake override system, meaning it was not part of the company's initiative in 2010 to add the system to all 2011 models. Also, after looking at the data from the EDR, he said - as many of you pointed out in the comments for the previous post - that the "brake pedal was never touched." In the video, you can see that the crossover's brake lights never come on, and the EDR's data backs this up.
100-year-old Yellowstone ranger station now powered by Camry Hybrid batteries [w/video]
Thu, May 14 2015With a new project, Toyota is bringing power to the prairie and finding a way to reuse nickel-metal hydride batteries at the same time. The automaker recently completed assisting Yellowstone National Park's installation of a solar power station at the Lamar Buffalo Ranch to electrify the ranger station and education center there for the first time. Toyota's major part in the system is an array of 208 batteries that are repurposed from old Camry Hybrid sedans, and they can store 85 kilowatt-hours of energy at a time. That's as much as one 85-kWh battery pack from one top-of-the-line Tesla Model S. Toyota figures that the whole setup should generate enough annual electricity for six average US homes, which is plenty for the ranch. For a constant source of power, the site plans to install a micro-hydro turbine in a nearby stream in 2016. Prior to creating the wall of batteries to store all of this energy, Toyota disassembled and tested each one. It also installed a new management system on them to maximize their lifespan.
