Rust Free, Immaculate & Original Fj60 Series 62 - Last Model Year on 2040-cars
Kansas City, Missouri, United States
Rugged, simple, reliable and fun. Add to that room to spare and you may have
the ultimate sport utility vehicle. As a
flagship model, the Land Cruiser always served to demonstrate Toyota’s
engineering and design talents. I think
they really nailed it with the FJ60-62 series.
Outdoor enthusiasts certainly admire this vehicle. It’s a timeless design, kind of like a Swiss
Army knife.
This vehicle has led a privileged life. Always garaged, always maintained at the Toyota dealership. As anyone who is a fan of the FJ series knows, they are prone to rust. That makes the originality and meticulous care of this one all the more cherished. Maintenance overall has been top shelf. The previous owner took care of some problem areas around the wheel wells and they have held up nicely. The color of this FJ62 is called Beige Metallic. This certainly was consistent with the Safari intentions of the original series. Appropriately, it is almost exactly the same color as dirt that dries after spending some time on a county access road. Pretty clever and suits the vehicle well! The inside is the tan and brown color combination. Overall, it is in excellent driver condition. The carpet, dash, rear panels all demonstrate the care this prized possession has received. Along with a warm cozy place to rest at night, the legendary inline 6 2F motor has sipped only the finest vintages. Lucas additives were used occasionally and the previous owner is not at all a fan of ethanol. Fortunately, we have some pure gas options in the area and he always sought them out. It’s been given the care necessary to demonstrate its tractor-like tenacity and durability. I have no doubt it will serve up many more miles of fun and adventure. All the photos
in this listing and quite a few more can be found at the following link – https://www.flickr.com/photos/105315473@N02/ This is the last model year for the highly regarded FJ60 series. Last model years like the Grand Wagoneer and the Mercedes SL series typically command the highest collector values. I guess only time will tell with this one, but it certainly stands as testament to Toyota’s much deserved legacy. The FJ62 is geared to be more accommodating at highway speeds and has a few other refinements that forecast the direction this flagship model would eventually go in the efforts to stay ahead of the pack. Fortunately, it did if from the same handsome sheet metal lines and with the same purposeful ruggedness. What other vehicle was designed to hit a rock at 60 mph without incident? Exactly, not many and probably none does it better. There are a few issues the new owner may want to take care of. The driver’s seat has a tear on the side in the vinyl section. The cloth insert in the same area is starting to separate. Both are because the foam is a showing its age. Aftermarket seat covers are readily available. The vinyl section could be easily replaced by an upholstery shop. So, you may just want to preserve the originals. The mud guard on the passenger front tire is gone. So too is the rocker panel trim piece. They were lost when backing out of a snow bank – a badge of honor earned the right way! These parts can be easily sourced at dealerships or online. The new owner will also want to put on a new set of tires, at least before next winter. These issues have been factored into the reserve price. Out of respect to all bidders and the auction process, I will not reveal the reserve price. It is set at a very reasonable price, well below the level at which she is likely to earn bids. Please bid the amount you are comfortable spending on the vehicle. I’ve tried to describe and capture through photos the vehicle in great detail. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to call. My cell is (816) 786-7534. Load up your friends, family, some camping gear fishing poles or bikes and take this thing for another adventure. It is eager to accommodate! Thanks for looking and good luck bidding. |

This Irishman really likes the Toyota GT86
Sun, 10 Feb 2013Okay, okay - by this point in time just liking the Toyota GT86 (Scion FR-S, Subaru BRZ, what have you) doesn't make you special. Even if you're a sort of funny sounding, funny looking Irishman, who probably isn't the most seasoned car reviewer ever, digging the GT86 is not news.
However, if, when you choose to publish your ten-minute-long review, you include exclamatory phrases about your own pubic hair, Ozzy Osborne's drug habit and "gentleman vegetable stuff," well sir, then you'll have our attention.
Don't give up on this video, available down below, after the first couple of minutes, we implore you. The silver-tongued Irishman doesn't really get warmed up until four minutes in, or so. Believe us, it's worth the wait.
Toyota Recalls 1.9 Million Prius Hybrids
Wed, Feb 12 2014TOKYO (AP) - Toyota is recalling 1.9 million hybrid Prius cars globally for a software glitch that could cause the vehicle to stall. Toyota Motor Corp. said Wednesday that 997,000 Prius cars in Japan, some 713,000 in North America, another 130,000 in Europe and the rest in other regions are being recalled for a problem in the software to control the hybrid system. No accidents or injuries have been reported related to the problem. The software could cause transistors to become damaged, causing warnings lights to go off, driving power to be reduced or the car to stop. The recalled vehicles were manufactured between March 2009 and February 2014. The Japanese automaker suffered massive recalls starting in 2009, affecting more than 14 million vehicles for problems including floor mats, gas pedals and brakes. Affected vehicles include: 2010-2014 Prius vehicles, 2012 Toyota RAV4, 2012-2013 Toyota Tacoma and 2012-2013 Lexus RX 350 vehicles sold in the United States. BMW-Toyota joint sports car project is on like Donkey Kong
Mon, 30 Dec 2013It's official - there will be a jointly developed sports car from BMW and Toyota. While the two auto giants signed a Memorandum of Understanding that pledged to pursue "joint development of architecture and components for a future sports vehicle" back in June of 2012, in the interim, it has remained unclear how those plans had been progressing. BMW has finally officially confirmed that the German and Japanese manufacturers will be codeveloping a pair of sports cars in addition to pursuing other disciplines including fuel cell systems and lightweight technologies.
"We have agreed on a joint architecture for a sports car. What is important is that there will be two different vehicles that are authentic to the two brands," BMW Development Chief Herbert Diess told Germany's Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Reuters is reporting. This is a very, very big step for both brands, but now the speculation can officially begin as to what the products of this agreement will look like.
There's ample reason to believe that the BMW-Toyota tie up will result in a Supra successor based on comments made by the chief engineer of the GT86/FR-S program, Tatsuya Tada, back in August. Follow that with a rumor from earlier this month that Toyota could debut a Supra concept car at the upcoming Detroit Auto Show later this month, and we could be seeing the fruits of this partnership sooner rather than later.
