You are bidding on a fully restored 1964 FJ40L.   Everything meticulously restored back to original including rare and often forgotten parts.   I restore cars.   I lovingly restored this land cruiser and utilized all of the correct parts during this restoration.

  • Jack?   Got it.  With hardware under back seat as well.
  • The correct seat covers?   You bet.   They look fantastic.
  • Does your FJ have the covers for the rear tailgate chains?   Mine does, and in the correct and matching material.
  • Door Safety straps, check.
  • Hubcaps and the correct wheels/tires?   Check.
  • Glass bowl early Toyota carb?   You bet!
  • Oil bath air cleaner as well as oil filter canister, often very difficult to find - CHECK.
  • Correct plated hardware used, full set of correct zinc plated nuts and bolts.
  • Dealer installed heater option, fully restored in correct color with correct label.
  • The correctly sourced rubber for the steps, which look amazing - check.
  • Glass bowl fuel filter.
  • Have the correct 3 on the tree drive train.   Transfer case rebuild.   Everything works as it should.
  • I had a complete custom AND PERIOD CORRECT wiring harness made for this car.   All new wiring that is factory correct with original fuse block.    Amazing work by an artisan.   Only non stock item in wiring is added trailer light provision built in.   Again, every had a 50 year old vehicle with new and perfect original wiring?   This one has it.
  • Original Generator and old school starter, works GREAT.
  • Frame media blasted and powdercoated.
  • All new suspension and steering items such as ball joints, shocks and new poly bushings for cab to frame mounting

Please view the photos, you can also view the restoration progress where I was working with the FJ community to get it right.

Full disclosure.   I am honest.    What I describe below is what I consider either a deviation from complete bone stock (intentionally) or a known minor issue.   This is it!

  • I decided to put disc brakes up front.   Wilwood set up with a custom Geo Metro booster and Wilwood proportioning valve installed.   Seemed safe and prudent.
  • When reinstalling the windshield after paint, with new rubber, the installer cracked the windshield.   It is vertical and you have to work hard to see it, not worth fixing.   You cannot see it in photos and I have never had a passenger notice!
  • I never could find the knob for the windshield vent.
  • I bolted an aftermarket 2" hitch receiver to rear bumper, all factory holes.   Also wired for trailer.
  • I replaced the points with a Pertronix electronic ignition, more reliable and hidden.   Still OEM distributor with vacuum advance and octane adjustment!
  • I have the correct windows for the soft top doors, but they are fiddly to stay up.   I think this is as they were originally.
  • I do not have the hand throttle cable connected.   (the one on dash)
  • I added a Toyota radiator overflow bottle.   Looks the part but also makes rig more reliable.
  • Sometimes (rarely) the starter bendix doesn't engage, retry will work.   This is the original starter and there is no way I am putting a new one in there.
  • I added a period valve to shut off coolant to the interior heater.  Looks great and on warm days keep the heater core from warming up.

The pictures here show some of the progress DURING the restoration as well as the final product.

Toyota Hilux successor spotted

Mon, 15 Sep 2014

The midsize truck segment is suddenly seemingly exploding with new vehicles worldwide, even here in North America. Not only will the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon be available very soon, Toyota is already testing a replacement for its aging Tacoma and Honda has promised a Ridgeline replacement within the next 18 months. Also, the recently shown Nissan Navara is said to portend the future of our Frontier. Here's some more fresh evidence from Europe of this pickup boom with the next generation of its venerable Hilux in testing.
Thanks to Top Gear and sometimes the evening news, the Hilux has built a reputation of being able to go just about anywhere. According to out spy shooter, this particular pickup was spotted during hot weather testing in southern Europe. Interestingly, a Volkswagen Amarok was along for the ride as a benchmark. Because the VW tends to offer a bit more comfort than the generally utilitarian Hilux, this could indicate Toyota is considering taking the new truck in a slightly comfier, more refined direction.
Compared to the current model, this camouflaged tester sports a narrower front grille and headlights. The hood scoop is also absent here. The lower air dam also receives a more horizontal look, but the more vertical fog light housings provide some contrast. The crazy camouflage pattern makes things hard to discern at the rear, but the taillights appear to be more slender than they on the current model. Unfortunately, mechanical details about the new truck remain a mystery at the moment, but enjoy these spy shots as a preview of one more upcoming pickup.

Toyota hydrogen vehicle visits CES, on sale in US in 2015

Mon, Jan 6 2014

If there was ever any doubt that Toyota loves hydrogen vehicles, just listen to some of what Bob Carter, senior vice president of automotive operations for Toyota Motor Sales, USA, said today at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas: "Fuel cell electric vehicles will be in our future sooner than many people believe, and in much greater numbers than anyone expected." "Hydrogen works beautifully with oxygen to create water and electricity and nothing more." "This [hydrogen] infrastructure thing is going to happen." "I believe what I'm going to tell you about today is going to change our world." Sounds like love is in the air. In all seriousness, Toyota is incredibly bullish on the future of hydrogen as a part of the automotive landscape, and is now gearing up for the 2015 launch of its hydrogen sedan. The concept version of the car was shown for the first time at the Tokyo Motor Show last fall and is making its North American debut at CES today, alongside the still-under-camo engineering prototype. The reasons for Toyota's hydrogen confidence? The debut vehicle is supposed to be a "reasonably priced" car that has a range of 300 miles and a refueling time of about five minutes. Carter highlighted the engineering work that Toyota has done over the past decades to get the fuel cell system downsized while upping power output to over 100 kW. He also said the vehicle will have carry enough energy to power a house for a week, so company engineers are working on an export power supply device. The H2 Toyota sedan will start sales in California (the only state in the US where there are currently any hydrogen stations) next year. The automaker is working with the University of California Irvine's Advanced Power and Energy Program (APEP) to figure out where to build the next series of public hydrogen fueling stations. Today there are ten, but the model Toyota is using "is based on the assumption that owners want to reach a refueling station within 6-minutes" and shows that 68 stations would be able to serve around 10,000 hydrogen vehicles. 'Toyota Car of the Future' On Sale Next Year; Opens 2014 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) Reasonably priced hydrogen fuel cell electric targets 300-mile range, 3-5 minute fill-up LAS VEGAS (Jan. 06, 2014) – "We aren't trying to re-invent the wheel; just everything necessary to make them turn," said Bob Carter, senior vice president of automotive operations for Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), U.S.A.

Russian videographer nails this real-life 'Need for Speed' recreation

Tue, Jun 25 2019

Aaron Paul and Kid Cudi tried. They really did. They put forth a decent acting effort, played with some incredible replica supercars, and filmed at some remarkable settings. But it's 2019, and 2014's "Need for Speed" sits at a 6.5/10 on IMDB, a 39 on Metacritic, and a 57% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. The studio attempt to bring "Need for Speed" to life was lukewarm, so a Russian videographer took a shot at the idea with this impressive digital short. Unearthed by Reddit user, AbuDab1, the clip is the work of Russia-based videographer @Chekunov_v. Clearly a fan of all things fast and fancy, as seen by his Instagram, Chekunov recreated the start screen, the garage with car and mod selection, and the race sequences from the video game. The video starts with an Acura RSX Type-S (labeled as the Integra Type R) with familiar theme music playing in the background. Accompanied by video game sound effects, the spotlight switches between a Toyota Celica, a Toyota Supra and a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo. The Supra and Evo are locked, so the user settles on the Celica. He goes on to select mods, including a new spoiler, new wheels and a new color, again to the tune of the proper sound effects, menus and camera views. The car exits the garage and rolls onto the road, where the screen now shows a tachometer and an N2O gauge. The Celica is met with a race challenge, and the car lines up with a Mazda RX-8, an Acura RSX Type-S and a Subaru WRX STI. After a terrible launch, the Celica uses some NOS and takes the victory. Unfortunately, the video is a bit 2 fast, 2 short for our taste. It's well done, has some unique video work, and takes us back into one of our favorite video game series. Maybe this guy can direct the studio sequel.
