Here we have an original Cygnus White (code 031) 1980 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 with 84,200 miles. Original Engine, Transmission, Body, Top, Doors and Interior. There has been regular maintenance and the owner has done what is needed along the way to keep the Land Cruiser looking and running good.

Details & Condition

This gal has survived over three decades while remaining essentially stock. She has a precious few of the nicks and scratches that come with 35 years of age but she still turns heads and is in overall excellent condition. This is a good running Cruiser with a lot of get up and go compared to many I have driven. You will NOT find diamond plate, fender flares, 8-track tape decks, jerry cans, roof racks, a V8 or other modifications. The original inline six fires right up and the steering, clutch and 4-Wheel Drive transmission are all in good working order as they should be for a vehicle with 84,200 miles. The turn signals, lights, wipers, taillights, backup lights, license plate lights, side markers and all gauges work perfectly. The vehicle was repainted in the original color and sports Toyota chrome wheels from an FJ60. Inside you will find the original mats and seats that have been recovered in the correct gray vinyl. The FJ40 suspension is comprised of rugged solid axles and leaf springs that provide an additional 2.5" of lift. The truck's original 4-speed manual transmission serves up legendary off-road prowess. Front disc and rear drum brake combination provide quick and responsive braking. At the back of the truck's frame you will find bumperettes flanking a 2” ball for towing your toys of choice.

Inside this classic you will find the original seats covered in correct gray vinyl. The interior door panels, mats, dashpad are in beautiful condition. The original headliner is still in place. Between the seats you will find the locking Tuffy center console with gray vinyl armrest. Inside the Tuffy is a Sony AM/FM/CD driving waterproof marine style Sony speakers and a Bazooka Bass tube in back.

Also included for summer topless fun is an Aluminum Aqualu tailgate with locking storage and two matching rear marine grade Sony speakers. The underside of this Cruiser could use a good bath, it looks pretty typical and there is surface rust, mud and dirt underneath. The windshield is cracked from a rock hit in the very lower corner on the drivers side. I decided to let it be as it's way down in the corner.

A little Land Cruiser History - 1980 was a great year for the Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40. By 1980 you had the ambulance doors in the rear that replaced the old lift/tailgate, larger square front Turn Signals with side markers. Squared off front bezel surrounding the headlights. Wipers were moved to bottom of windshield. 3:70 gearing provided better on-road performance without sacrificing off road performance. Front disk brakes, Tubular spare tire mount, Pop-out rear windows gave passengers in back some fresh air. (End of History lesson)

Summary

This truck is not a garage queen. It’s your basic utilitarian FJ40 that looks great and is ready to be enjoyed. Park it at the cabin or take it over a mountain pass to your favorite trout stream. Other than described, this is a well sorted unmolested, factory-original FJ40 that you can drive everyday and will attract a small following of admiring fans.

This FJ40 includes the original Owners manual, Owners Guide, Toolkit, Jack, Jack rods. This truck is on consignment with Land Cruiser Nation. Safety Agency Studying Toyota Acceleration Problem

Mon, Sep 29 2014

A U.S. safety agency is looking into a consumer's petition alleging that older Toyota Corollas can accelerate unexpectedly at low speeds and cause crashes. The inquiry by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration covers about 1.69 million of the Corolla compact cars from the 2006 to 2010 model years. The agency will decide whether to open a formal investigation into the problem. An unidentified consumer said in a letter to the agency that he experienced multiple low-speed surges in a 2010 Corolla, and the brakes failed to stop the car in time to prevent a crash. The consumer said the problem caused one collision with a parked vehicle on June 8. "In addition to evidence from our crash incident, we are providing evidence that many other Corolla owners are experiencing similarly unsafe scenarios that are leading to crashes," said a portion of the consumer's letter posted Monday on NHTSA's website. The consumer provided 163 reports from other drivers who experienced a surge at low speed or no speed. But NHTSA said it eliminated duplicates, those outside the scope of the 2006-2010 model years and those from foreign countries to get 141. No injuries were reported. The agency said it would evaluate all of the complaints from the consumer in order to decide whether to grant or deny the petition and open a formal investigation. The consumer filed the petition on Sept. 11, according to the documents. Messages were left Monday morning seeking comment from Toyota. In 2009 and 2010, Toyota issued a series of recalls totaling more than 10 million vehicles for various problems including faulty brakes, sticky gas pedals and ill-fitting floor mats. Toyota is under pressure to announce recalls quickly after a U.S. government investigation found it hid information about past defects. Last month, the company agreed to pay $1.2 billion to settle that investigation. It also paid fines totaling $66 million to the U.S. government for delays in reporting unintended acceleration problems. The company has said it made "fundamental changes to become a more responsive and customer-focused organization, and we are committed to continued improvements." Toyota's Texas move could boost state's economy by $7.2B in 10 years

Thu, 15 May 2014

They say everything is bigger in Texas, and apparently that includes the Toyota's effect on the economy. The giant Japanese automaker's new headquarters in Plano, TX, will add an estimated $7.2 billion to the state over the next 10 years, according to a new study commissioned by the city and cited by Bloomberg.
The benefits appear to be an absolute steal compared to the direct incentives that Plano and the state are giving Toyota. The report finds that by the time the automaker's campus is complete in 2018, it could have 3,650 full-time workers there at an average salary of $104,000. The city has prepared $6.75 million in grants, plus property tax discounts, according to Bloomberg. In addition to that, the state is offering the business $40 million in incentives from its Texas Enterprise Fund. This is still a fraction of what Toyota is estimated to bring in.
Toyota announced in April that it would move its US operations to Plano after being headquartered in California since 1957. The move affects thousands of employees from the sales and engineering divisions. The first workers will arrive there this fall, but Toyota will eventually have a whole campus in Plano by late 2017. The move is expected to save it huge amounts in taxation and offer employees a lower cost of living. Toyota North America CEO Jim Lentz also says that the Texas location puts the headquarters closer to more of the business' factories in the south. Texas certainly appears to be showing it some southern hospitality.

Japanese automakers ramping production for renewed American sales

Wed, 21 Nov 2012

The 2011 earthquake and tsunami that struck Japan took quite the toll on the automotive industry in that nation. Not content to lean on that tragedy as excuse for slagging sales, the Japanese automakers are planning on a major production expansion in North America. The aim is to reclaim the market share lost from the Tsunami-based dip, and overcome a dollar/yen exchange rate that makes exporting to America unprofitable.
Following the Tsunami, Japanese automakers ramped up production in their North American facilities to compensate, but according to Automotive News, Nissan, Honda and others have all reported plans for still-further increased production in the year ahead. As part of this ramp-up, Mazda will open a facility in Salamnca, Mexico before March of 2014. Part of that increase in output is 50,000 units of a Toyota-badged compact car, which Mazda will produce.
Other Mexican production facilities opening include a Honda plant, which will open in Spring 2014 in Celaya, and a Nissan plant, set to open later this year in Aguascalientes. Nissan also said that it will need another plant in North America within the next five years. According to Nissan Boss Carlos Ghosn, the company aims to raise its stake in the US market from 8 percent to 10, and adding production will help achieve that goal. Even Mitsubishi is aiming to boost production at its Normal, Illinois plant. Production of the Outlander Sport is currently at 50,000, which Mitsubishi wants to raise to 70,000.
