1993 Toyota Land Cruiser - Right Year, Right Color, Right Condition with DIFF LOCKS. After a long exhaustive search we found this cruiser in LA in January - finally one that hadn't been beat up and was regularly maintained over its life. After getting home, I proceeded to go through it and fix all of the little things, then off to the mechanic to do everything that could be done to make this cruiser ready for the next 100K miles. Then after having it for 6 months, a low mile 100 Series has come along and the wife likes the ride of the 100 more than the 80 series so here is a cruiser that is in the right shape and has been brought up to date with everything mechanically one could want done for sale and looking for a new home. The cruiser came with nearly new tires and front brakes when I got it 3K miles ago. Then, I had the following done: Full A/C conversion and extra parts, full tune up, plug wires, cap, etc., new shocks all around, changed all fluids, fixed leaking valve cover gasket - THIS CRUISER DOES NOT LEAK A DROP, replaced various rubber compopnents, new throttle cable, cleaned up shifter linkage, re-wrapped wiring harness with heat wrap, new hood struts, battery terminal upgrade, new driver's seatbelt, cleaned up the wonky window tracking....seriously, just about everything that could possibly be done - this thing is set up for a long time to come. I even put an expensive set of Coco mats in her thinking we would have it a ong long time...Everything works as intended with the exception of the stock radio CD player - one is stuck in it, and the D light in the dash doesn't light up (do they ever?). It drives tight without any noises and is a pleasure to drive. Cosmetically - I am a car guy so am probably way more picky than most people would be, but one of the things that impressed me about this rig was that the body and stock paint is straight as an arrow - really no door dings to speak of so reads very nicely. The bumpers have corner scratching like they all seem to get and there is a scratch on the upper rear hatch like someone backed into a branch or something. There is no rust with the exception of a little bubbling at the bottom of the rear hatch window like you usually see - no rust anywhere else. The interior is leather - the front seats have been covered with new Specter OffRoad covers as the leather is pretty bad - the seat is firm and the foam is not coming apart, but is someone wants all leather - the front seats should be redone and the rear seat re-dyed - it is supple and soft, but the LA heat has definitely left its mark as well as in a few cracks on the dash. This is a really nice LC that will not disappoint - it is being listed locally as well as it is getting sold - am not going to keep it long so don't hesitate if you are interested. I am not interested in any trades so please don't ask and please only serious buyers inquire. There may be other cruisers out there for a little less, but you can look a long time before finding one that is a good candidate to start with in the first place, and the combination of condition and all of the mechanics gone through on this rig are tough to replicate. No slick photos or over detailing on this one - just a good honest LC looking for a good home...Thanks for your interest and please submit any questions you might have and I will get right back to you.

Child cobalt miners: Automakers pledge ethical minerals sourcing for EVs
Wed, Nov 29 2017BERLIN - Leading carmakers including Volkswagen and Toyota pledged on Wednesday to uphold ethical and socially responsible standards in their purchases of minerals for an expected boom in electric vehicle production. Demand for minerals such as cobalt, graphite and lithium is forecast to soar in the coming years as governments crack down on vehicle pollution and carmakers step up their investments in electric models. To cover its plans for more than 80 new models by 2025, Volkswagen alone is looking for partners in China, Europe and North America to provide battery cells and related technology worth more than 50 billion euros ($59 billion). Talks with major cobalt producers, including Glencore, at VW's Wolfsburg headquarters last week ended without a deal. More than half of the world's cobalt comes from the Democratic Republic of Congo, a country racked by political instability and legal opacity, and where child labor is used in mines. On Wednesday, a group of 10 leading passenger-car and truck manufacturers announced an initiative to jointly identify and address ethical, environmental, human and labor rights issues in raw materials sourcing. The partnership dubbed "Drive Sustainability" consists of VW, Toyota Motor Europe, Ford, Daimler, BMW, Honda, Jaguar Land Rover, Volvo Cars and truckmakers Scania and Volvo. The alliance "will assess the risks posed by the top raw materials (such as mica, cobalt, rubber and leather) in the automotive sector," said Stefan Crets of the CSR Europe business network. 2013 Pikes Peak Hill Climb, Practice Day 3
Thu, 27 Jun 2013The third practice day of the 91st Pikes Peak International Hill Climb is done. While the other classes got running time on the middle and top sections of the course, qualifying times were set on the bottom section of the course for the Open, Open Wheel, Electric, Exhibition and Vintage classes.
Everyone managed to keep it on the black stuff today, Greg Tracy setting the fastest time ahead of Hiroshi Masuoka, both men driving the Mitsubishi MiEV Evolution II four-wheel-drive prototype. Not even half a second behind Masuoka came Nobuhiro "Monster" Tajima in his Monster Sport E-Runner, who has taken about 18 seconds off his time since the first practice day. Rod Millen was the fourth fastest on the day in his Toyota TMG EV POO2.
Topping the Open Wheel class was Clint Vahsholtz, followed by Donner Billingsley, Andy Figueroa and Rodney O'Maley. The only driver in that class not to be given a time today was Dan Novembre. Kenshiro Gushi took the Exhibition class today as his Lexus IS F CCS-R made it up the mountain in 4:27.248, followed by Sage Marie in the Honda CR-Z at 5:19.591. Simon Pagenaud and his Honda Odyssey weren't classified.

Thu, Nov 18 2021The L.A. Auto Show took place this week for the first time since the onset of the pandemic. It was a show packed with news and reveals, which hasn't really been the case with other shows we've seen this year, and Autoblog was on the floor covering every minute of it. Well, Riswick and Stocksdale were, anyway. The rest of us were sitting at home in our sweatpants, but hey, we'll take credit anyway. Let's get to it. Hyundai Seven Concept This is the Hyundai Seven Concept, and it’s meant to act as a preview for an incoming electric SUV for the Ioniq brand. It leans more toward the concept side of the spectrum than a production car, but expect the final SUV to take design cues from the Seven Concept. Kia Concept EV9 The Hyundai Seven counterpart isn't the only big, bold electric SUV at L.A. this year. Kia has its own take, and it's a modernized version of the traditional boxy utility vehicle called the Concept EV9. It also previews one of the next production electric cars for the brand, which should look right at home next to things like the Telluride. 2023 Kia Sportage HEV As promised, the 2023 Kia Sportage HEV has been revealed. The hybrid powertrain makes the compact SUV the most powerful version available, and it goes on sale next year. The engine is a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder paired with a 44-kW electric motor. Total output is 226 horsepower. The company didn't give a torque number, but it should basically be the same as the Sorento HEV that has the same basic powertrain: 258 pound-feet. Those numbers are a healthy step up from the 187 horsepower of the base 2.5-liter engine. 2022 Range Rover If you noticed how extra smooth and suave the new Range Rover looked during its recent reveal, Autoblog's James Riswick got a design tour that revealed some of the technological secrets to its success. "Less is more" is harder to achieve than it looks. Fisker Ocean Fisker has brought the new Ocean EV to the L.A. Auto Show, with a public preview at Manhattan Beach and a presence at the show itself. You can watch the public show reveal above, and see more shots from the show floor below. Fisker says the Ocean will start at $37,499 before incentives. That entry model would be the Sport trim with a single, 275-horsepower motor driving the front wheels and 250 miles of estimated range.
