1983 Toyota Land Cruiser - Lift Kit - 35" Tires - No Reserve on 2040-cars
Three Lakes, Wisconsin, United States
1983 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ60. Great, dependable driver. Recently redone interior. Lift kit with new 35" Toyo Mud Terrain tires, snorkel (not hooked up), paint is presentable but shows wear. Some scratches and small rust areas, but overall very clean. Originally titled in South Carolina. Frame is completely rust free outside of minimal surface rust. Body is bondo free to the best of my knowledge and has very minimal surface rust. Original inline 6 with an exempt odometer. Original owner stated he had the engine rebuilt about 15,000 miles prior to my purchase, but no documentation. Engine starts and runs well. Brakes need checking - not sure if it's from the large tires or if they need work. They do stop the vehicle but should/could work better. AC does not work. Everything else is operable to the best of my knowledge. Nice, clean FJ60 with lots of extras offered at no reserve. For sale locally, seller reserves the right to end auction early.
On Jun-17-14 at 05:57:13 PDT, seller added the following information: Common questions I'm getting: As the description and photos show, this FJ60 has very little frame rust. What I would classify as minimal surface rust on some areas of the frame. Zero rust-through on the frame. It's very clean, shown in photos. The body is very clean as well with minimal areas of rust coming through the paint under the door(s). This is one of the cleanest FJ60s I've ever owned. It is garage kept and was only driven in summer months by me. I have only owned it about 18 months. The brakes will stop the vehicle but do not work at 100%. I'd estimate them to be working at about a 25% level. This Cruiser will travel no problem at highway speeds up to 70 MPH. It could be driven home by the buyer, but again, the brakes are not 100% and are probably not the safest option at highway speeds. The tires (Toyo MTs) likely have less than 500 miles on them and are worth about $1,200 by themselves. I am selling it because I have a collection of vintage 4x4s which means too many to maintain and store, so this one didn't survive the cut. I forgot to note in the description - the filler neck on the gas tank will leak if over-filled. It has to be COMPLETELY filled to leak. On Jun-17-14 at 19:42:12 PDT, seller added the following information: If the bids exceed $6,000 I'll pay to have the brakes looked at/repaired prior to shipping or pick-up. |

Toyota passes BMW as most valuable car brand
Tue, 21 May 2013An annual market study of the strongest brands across various industries has seen Toyota leapfrog BMW as the world's most valuable automotive brand. Toyota's 2013 brand value rose to $24.5 billion, up 12 percent versus 2012 numbers according to market research company Millward Brown's BrandZ Top 100 Most Valuable Global Brands list. BMW's value fell slightly; down by 2 percent to a total of $24 billion.
Mercedes-Benz finished in third place in the automotive category, up 11 percent from 2012 for a valuation of $18 billion. Honda ($12.4 billion, down 2 percent) and Nissan ($10.2 billion, up 3 percent) rounded out the top five for the category. Volkswagen was the only other auto brand that finished in the top 100 overall, in 100th place. Audi made the greatest percentage gain over 2012, up 18 percent to $5.5 billion, but finished outside of the top 100.
Technology companies dominated the overall list, with Apple, Google and IBM ranking one through three. Couture brand Prada was 2013's biggest gainer, rising by 63 percent over 2012.
Toyota brings TRD Griffon GT86 to Goodwood [w/video]
Fri, 12 Jul 2013In the midst of the 2013 Goodwood Festival of Speed, there's a particularly special Toyota running up the hill. This special entry is a GT86 (the cousin to our Scion FR-S and Subaru BRZ) that's been poked, prodded, and tweaked by the minds at Toyota Racing Development. The result of TRD's fettling is a nearly race-ready car.
Starting with the body, the hood, doors, trunk lid, and wings are all made of carbon fiber. The lightweight treatment doesn't end there, though. The bumpers, fenders, and diffuser all feature carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic, while the windows are now made of polycarbonate plastic.
Under the hood sits the same 2.0-liter boxer engine found in the standard GT86, but its six-speed manual gearbox features a shorter final drive ratio for improved acceleration. The coilover suspension has been firmed up, and a TRD mechanical limited-slip differential replaces the Torsen unit. The TRD Griffon rides on TWS 18-inch wheels and Yokohama Advan tires. To bring proceedings to a stop, TRD has fitted its own mono-block caliper kit, complete with more robust racing pads.
Unifor may establish local union for Toyota's Canadian plants
Thu, 17 Jul 2014Union tactics apparently translate across borders, as Canada's Unifor may take inspiration from the United Auto Workers' recent move at the Volkswagen factory in Chattanooga, TN, and establish a local for the Toyota factories in Cambridge and Woodstock.
Unifor last attempted to organize the workers at the two factories, which are responsible for production of the Toyota Corolla (above), RAV4 and Lexus RX back in April, but that vote was eventually delayed. According to that report, 3,000 of the two plants' 7,500 employees signed union cards, but that apparently wasn't enough for Unifor to force a vote.
Because of this, the union is looking at the local approach, like what the UAW is attempting with VW.
