1982 Fj40 / Bj40 Land Cruiser. Rare Diesel on 2040-cars
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States
Extremely rare diesel Land Cruiser. Titled, registered, and inspected in Pennsylvania so you should have no trouble with it. Originally a Canadian car.
Engine runs great, slight smoke on start up when it has been sitting for a while. Shifts through all 4 gears smoothly. Transfer case functions properly and 4wd is unstoppable with the locking hubs. Slightly oversized tires, cruises at an indicated 55mph on the highway no problem. Floorboards and some cargo area were repaired / replaced before it was inspected in PA last summer. OK job done: structurally great, aesthetically not as much. New rear sill was put in also -- same thing structurally great but could have been done with more finesse. Plenty of surface rust but most of it minor. Rear quarter panels are panel-bonded aluminum to cover some holes / cut fenders. Winch works but I've never actually used it beyond a quick test. I would imagine that the cable would need to be replaced if you were serious about it but I have no idea. Interior is in excellent shape, no cracks in the dash or seats. Both jump seats included. My intention was to drive it as-is for a few years and then spring for a new Aluminum tub down the road. Plans have changed so off she goes. Not working / other notes: * Oil Pressure Gauge (faulty sender I believe) * Fresh air vent (I'm hesitant to force the knob on the dash) * Odometer * Rear, driver side ambulance door is missing handle. * Truck was resprayed at some point in the past. Tan seems to be the original color but they were lazy and sprayed over some bolts. That's all that I know of, but if you're looking at this you're not expecting a showroom condition truck. As is she's great to cruise around in and turn heads. Call or text (412) 212-6892 with Questions |

2015 Toyota Yaris to start at $14,845* and look like this
Thu, 24 Jul 2014Toyota released a new Yaris in Europe and its Vitz clone in Japan a few months ago, so we knew it would only be a matter of time before it would launch the new hatchback here in North America. And that time has come.
The new, more distinctive 2015 Yaris features far more aggressive exterior styling, a look set apart by that large lower air dam and X-motif front end. It rides on a retuned suspension hooked up to an altogether more rigid chassis, and Toyota promises it will ride more quietly and comfortably than the model it replaces. Inside the new model has additional soft-touch materials in a more comfortable cabin equipped with everything from a 6.1-inch touchscreen display to nine airbags.
The 2015 Yaris comes in both three- and five-door bodystyles, and three trim levels that seek to eliminate the need for options packages. In fact the only option to speak of is a dealer-installed nav system. Power comes from a modest 1.5-liter four with variable valve timing, dual overhead cams and sixteen valves, sending 106 horsepower and 103 pound-feet of torque through either a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic.
IIHS updates overlap test: 2 SUVs get good marks, 9 fare poorly
Tue, Dec 13 2022Vehicles in crashes keep occupants safe by deforming around the cabin in a way that maintains cabin integrity. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's moderate overlap test, introduced in 1995, has been a huge contributor to improved safety for front-row passengers in a crash. IIHS President David Harkey said, "Thanks to automakers’ improvements, drivers in most vehicles are nearly 50% less likely to be killed in a frontal crash today than they were 25 years ago." In the 'unintentional side effects' column, crash safety has gotten worse for passengers in the back seats. When carmakers reengineered the front crash structure to protect the driver, more crash forces got distributed throughout the rear. IIHS research claims rear passengers have a 46% greater risk of fatal injury than front-row passengers, but back-seaters haven't benefited from the same upgrades in safety as the front row. The IIHS updated its moderate overlap test to address the issue, putting 15 vehicles through the new regime. Two earned good ratings — the 2023 Ford Escape and the 2021-2023 Volvo XC40 — one was acceptable, three were marginal and nine were rated poor. Every one of the crossovers sampled got good marks for all passengers in the original test. That test sees 40% of vehicle's width on the driver's side impacting an aluminum honeycomb barrier at 40 miles per hour. The updated test puts a crash dummy representing small woman or 12-year-old child in the seat behind the driver, the dummy's sensors and grease paint measuring the effectiveness of the restraints and the forces a human body would need to endure. To achieve a good rating, the "measurements must not exceed limits indicating excessive risk of injury to the head, neck, chest, abdomen or thigh." An institute engineer said, "In real-world crashes, chest injuries are the most common serious rear-seat injuries for adults." The sensors and video evidence showed back seat dummies in the Escape and XC40 endured minimal risk of injuries from excessive crash forces, from submarining under the seat belt, or from unwanted interaction with the side curtain airbag.  The Toyota RAV4 scored acceptable. The second-row dummy also endured minimal risk of injury to the chest and lower extremities. However, the lap belt slipped upward in a way that could increase abdominal injuries, and after the dummy's head dipped during crash impact, the head came back up between the rear curtain airbag and rear window.
Toyota fills in details about its future design direction and global platform
Fri, 25 Oct 2013
"In the future, out of 100 customers, we want to excite ten of them instead of not offending all 100."
Almost all of the details about the Toyota New Group Architecture (TNGA) strategy have come out since the initiative was first reported on in March of this year, but Autoblog did learn a few new things about it on a recent trip to Japan. Probably the second-most important detail is that each new segment platform will be based around a common hip point to create an "optimal driving position architecture."
