recent service include, new alt, p/s, a/c fan belts were replaced. lube and oil filter. brake fluid, clutch fluid, coolant flushed and filled with new. since Calif smog std. gotten more strict this year, currently the car is "NOT PASS CALIF SMOG" unless modify original carb to reduce CO level. so at this time i would prefer to sell to the buyer from outside of California. This vehicle was originally sold new in San Diego, CA. The vehicle was produced toward the end of production run. (1979 1/2). I was told from the last owner he was the 2nd owner. (which makes me 3rd, if his statement was correct). I am selling because the vehicle is not used. It sat in the garage for last three years, sat on the street for two years before that. "RUSTING" is the major project with this car. the work done before (years ago with last owner) was not done correctly, therefore the rust is finally coming through. Mechanically, the engine and trans runs and hums like original FJ55 supposed to. So they are in very good condition. (NO WARRANTY is implied here). The vehicle has little over 114 thousand original miles. No manifold leaks, great clean exhaust system. I take this vehicle to get serviced at my mechanic. He was a former Toyota technician when he was in Japan so he is familiar with older vintage Landcruisers. I have owned different Landcruisers in last 20 years, I learned quickly, not any mechanic know how to fix these vintage vehicles. Interior is in very good shape for it's age. It has rare wall to wall grey carpet, the dash is not original, it was redone by last owner. Ceiling liner is near perfect except for sun visors. One of the seat belt is not working. Rear gate lock from outside does not work. looks like some broken piece was left in the cylinder. No radio but different after market radio was installed in inside of glove compartment (it was cut into), so now after removing the radio with amp unit (was not working when I bought) I have a big hole at bottom of the glove compartment. so any wires you see on the pic is related from radio with amp removal. Moisture got in from rusted roof when it was parked outside in the rain and gauges no longer respond except for speedmeter. The vehicle has very rare factory options. (power steering, A/C (compressor was replaced one time), roof rack, tinted front windshield, wall to wall carpet, etc.). I am looking for (I would prefer to pass this car to) somebody truly into old Landcruisers, somebody knows how to rebuild the vehicle. it needs covered garage, good home. I wa told an used chopped roof assembly is about $700-$1000. so cut and weld work is needed then followed with prime and paint. Now I see surface cracks on tires since aging from sitting. Currently the registration is up to date. I have the pink. Clean Title. If you are close, drive this home with your own risk. Or I will be happy to help coordinate with your shipping company to load it up per your clear instruction.

Toyota, Mazda drop Takata as Mitsubishi, Subaru weigh options
Sat, Nov 7 2015It's not a very good time to be Takata right now. Fresh on the heels of longtime partner Honda ditching them, Toyota and Mazda have both come out and said they will not use the company's airbag inflators if they continue to rely on ammonium nitrate. Bloomberg reports that Subaru and Mitsubishi are also contemplating a divorce. "The inflator using ammonium nitrate produced by Takata will not be adopted by Toyota," President Akio Toyoda said during a briefing today. "What's most important above anything else is the safety and peace of mind of customers." Mazda echoed that position, simply saying it "will not use Takata airbag inflators which contain ammonium nitrate in our new cars." When you lose three huge OEM accounts in as many days, it's certainly going to have a deleterious effect on your fortunes. In Takata's case, that's meant a staggering 39-percent drop in their share price over the last three days. Yesterday alone, the company saw a 6.2-percent fall, Bloomberg reports. As the business publication reports, though, Takata isn't going down without a fight. The company is "considering some plans to survive," including a fundraising plan that will see it potentially offer up additional shares for sale. Still, at least one analyst doesn't see whatever company survives staying involved in the airbag inflator business. "I really don't see how they're going to be able to survive as an inflator manufacturer," Valient Market Research founder Scott Upham told Bloomberg. "When your major clients publicly come out and say that they're not going to use your products anymore, it makes this very difficult to sustain your business." Toyota renews Supra trademark, we renew frothing at the mouth
Tue, 18 Feb 2014Enthusiasts have been begging for a new Supra practically since Toyota stopped selling its fourth generation in the US way back in 1998. We've been hearing rumors about a successor for years, but the Toyota FT-1 Concept from the 2014 Detroit Auto Show is the first tangible sign from the automaker that a new generation may be on the table. To temp us even more, the Japanese company reportedly filed with the US Patent and Trademark Office last week to renew its 2010 trademark for the name "Supra."
Granted, these kinds of trademark updates aren't uncommon, as automakers don't want to lose their rights to nameplates (even if they have no immediate plans to use them). However, Toyota briefly abandoned its rights to the Supra name entirely. According to The Motor Report, the original trademark was continually renewed until 2006, but the Japanese automaker let it lapse in the US until applying for it again in 2010.
The FT-1 Concept in Detroit was created at Toyota's Calty Design Research center in California and carries cues from the 2000GT, Celica and Supra in an ultra-curvy body. Officials did not disclose anything about its powertrain. Toyota is also co-developing a future sports car platform with BMW that will underpin models from both companies, but few other details are konwn, and it isn't yet clear that the joint venture has anything to do with a future Supra. Hope springs eternal.
Toyota reaffirms commitment to body-on-frame SUVs
Mon, 29 Jul 2013Toyota sold 121,055 Highlander CUVs in 2012, according to Automotive News. By comparison, it sold 78,457 examples of four different body-on-frame, truck-based SUVs (4Runner, FJ Cruiser, Sequoia and Land Cruiser). One could argue then, that the traditional SUVs aren't pulling their weight from a sales perspective. Yet that isn't stopping Toyota from reaffirming its commitment to a segment that has seen its former champions - Ford, General Motors and Chrysler - abandon it with alarming speed. Ford and GM still offer body-on frame utilities, but only in the very largest offerings, catering to seven or even eight passengers. Everything outside of the Expedition or Tahoe rides now on a unibody.
Toyota's decision to stick with the technology is good news if you're in the market for smaller SUVs that are still capable of heading well off the beaten path. Outside of the Jeep Wrangler, Grand Cherokee (a unibody) and perhaps Nissan Xterra, there's not much in terms of capable SUVs between $20,000 and $50,000. As the Toyota brand's US head, Bill Fay, says, "Clearly, the trend has shifted, but there is still an owner base that is interested in these vehicles."
We don't doubt Fay on that, but it may also be somewhat telling that Toyota's SUV lineup is aging, and we haven't seen or heard much about replacement models in the pipeline. Admittedly, the 4Runner (pictured) has been facelifted for 2014, but it's mostly cosmetic in nature. Despite Toyota's posturing, we still expect its body-on-frame lineup to thin in the coming years as sales dwindle and escalating fuel-economy standards make business cases even tougher. Here's hoping that Toyota manages to keep at least one rough-and-tumble SUV in its lineup in the coming years.
