PLEASE SEE THE NEW "SHIPPING" SECTION BELOW FOR ADDITIONS TO THE LISTING FROM THE PREVIOUS VERSION. I WILL BE UNREACHABLE BY PHONE OR EMAIL SATURDAY THE 26TH AND 27TH SO PLEASE ASK ALL YOUR QUESTIONS BY THE 25TH SO YOU CAN BID ACCORDINGLY.

OVERVIEW: You are bidding on an incredible 1971 Toyota Land Cruiser...I’m selling this for a friend who has one too many projects on his plate, if you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask I’m happy to pass them along. Here's his description:

I've owned this for less than a year, paid over the starting bid here and drove it literally less than a couple hundred miles. I bought this as an almost complete project rig but between the new house and the three kids I haven't made any progress on it and it's more painful to watch her sitting in the driveway than to imagine her happy on a trail somewhere with another owner. It's in great driving condition as is, ready for the trail or the highway!!! I've owned other vintage vehicles in the past but this has been by far and away my favorite, and I hate to see her go. I had never owned a Land Cruiser prior to this that could go over 75 mph comfortably on the highway but could also crawl so technically on the most difficult of trails. It has some rust on the rear of the body but as you can tell by the pictures but the driver and passenger floors are solid. She turns heads everywhere she goes - and catches the eye's of both the serious off roader and the collector alike.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION: Newly rebuilt Small Block Chevy 350 with only 2000 MILES ON IT!!!! Edelbrock Performer Intake Manifold. Edelbrock 650 CFM 4 barrel carb. New MSD cap/rotor/wires. HEI distributor. Headers (old school - outside frame rail). K&N Air Filter. SM420 Transmission WITH Stock Vacuum Actuated Transfer Case. Transmission is incredibly strong, geared perfectly for crawling and still allows me to pass anyone I like on the highway.

STEERING & SUSPENSION: Power Steering - Saginaw steering box, GM Reservoir with new AGR Power Steering Pump, Welded Tabs/Bolts for Hydraulic Assist on Front Axle. 78' Axles Front/Rear (Front discs). New Rear Axle and Double Cardan rebuild. New Clutch Slave Cylinder. New Rear Drum Brake Pads. Spring over axle (SOA) conversion with the OEM Toyota springs and Rancho 9000's shocks all the way around!

ELECTRICAL: New Auto Tech oil pressure and temperature gauges. OEM fuel and voltage/battery gauges work great. New headlights. The electrical system is solid but included is a new in box painless chassis wiring harness!!!!

TIRES & SAFETY:  Less than 500 miles on four 37 x 12.50 R 15 Interco IROKS RADIAL tires mounted on 12 x 15 WELD Roadhawks. Included is a newly installed METAL TECH FULL CAGE/CRADLE. Sitting in this rig feels like you're in an impenetrable fortress, I've never seen another cage as solid as this...simply incredible!!!

EXTRAS INCLUDED WITH THE AUCTION:
Original bench seats front/rear (completely redone!) were removed for the cage install but are included in the listing
2 Newer/Used Super Swamper SSRs for spares with one 8 x 15 aluminum spare wheel
New in box Painless chassis wiring harness
Bikini top
Door weatherstripping
Side view mirrors
Seat belts
OEM Toyota Lock with key
Newly installed window seals

THE BAD:
Needs smaller pulley for accelerated EGR pump (more volume)
Needs bigger pulley to fully utilize power steering system
Needs shackle bushings
Needs possible master brake cylinder rebuild (starting to need a double-pump)
Parking brake will not engage (the handle is in tact in the cab but it either needs to be tightened or the linkage needs to be corrected)
Spring over axle conversion needs a little attention (mentioned to me by the previous owner but I haven't noticed any issues, additional shackles are included)
Rusted out lower rear corner panels BUT included are brand new polished diamond plate corner panels!
Rusted out tub below the tail gate (covered with black tape currently)
Rust on rear seal
No door keys
Speedometer is not connected
Windshield wipers aren't currently installed but motor and wiper blades are included with the auction
Gas filler tube is in need of redirecting, since the addition of the METAL TECH CAGE
One wheel stud broken on each of the rear wheels

(please keep in mind that the truck is +40 years old and their may be other odds and ends that need adjustment...if you want to see something in more detail please ask for additional pictures, I want to make sure you know exactly what you're buying)

SHIPPING: I drove the truck this weekend and you can drive it anywhere in town without any issues (assuming it's not raining hard - no wipers remember, see above) BUT this should not be driven cross-country without the brake system being looked at, the wipers installed, and the gas filler hose being redirected and therefore I require that the winning bidder have the vehicle shipped if it's immediately going out of state. Please don't email me after the auction ends expecting to drive it across country tomorrow...the motor is strong as an ox but those other things need to be looked at before it gets driven hard. Vehicle must be picked up within ten days of the end of the auction. Shipping must be arranged by the buyer at a pickup location of my choice (a.k.a. near my house and not 90 miles away). If you are arranging shipping make sure the carrier will allow the spare tires, bench seats, and spare parts to be stored inside the truck (some carriers do not) otherwise you will be responsible for the crate charge and freight to get the additional items to you.

PAYMENT: Please email me with questions BEFORE you start bidding. The winning bidder must pay a $500 deposit within 24 hours of the close of the auction and pay the balance when you pickup the vehicle with cash or a cashiers check. I am listing the truck locally as well and reserve the right to end the auction early at any time regardless of wether there are currently bids or not. Bid with confidence, I have had a 100% positive feedback rating for the last decade since I started using eBay!!!!

This Irishman really likes the Toyota GT86

Sun, 10 Feb 2013

Okay, okay - by this point in time just liking the Toyota GT86 (Scion FR-S, Subaru BRZ, what have you) doesn't make you special. Even if you're a sort of funny sounding, funny looking Irishman, who probably isn't the most seasoned car reviewer ever, digging the GT86 is not news.
However, if, when you choose to publish your ten-minute-long review, you include exclamatory phrases about your own pubic hair, Ozzy Osborne's drug habit and "gentleman vegetable stuff," well sir, then you'll have our attention.
Don't give up on this video, available down below, after the first couple of minutes, we implore you. The silver-tongued Irishman doesn't really get warmed up until four minutes in, or so. Believe us, it's worth the wait.

Car and Driver shows off awesome 1960s ads

Fri, Sep 11 2015

Someone must have recently rediscovered the keys to the archives at Car and Driver, and the access has been put to good use. Following last month's fantastic look at automotive ads from the '50s, there's now a new gallery running from March 1960 through December 1969. This collection provides a great overview of a decade full of iconic cars. If you're a fan of Carroll Shelby, particularly his Mustangs, then there's a lot to love among this group. One ad from July 1965 aimed to sell the GT350, but with an ocean of text and a tiny picture, it probably could've used a once-over by Don Draper's team. By December '65, the copywriters ironed out the problems with a spot proclaiming boldly "Shelby GT350 is 'Son of Cobra.'" The company offered some great accessories, too. For those into European motoring, there's a humorous attempt to sell the Alfa Romeo Giulia as both a racecar and family hauler. Toyota also boasts about the winning record for the 2000GT. Among the best text comes from BMW for lines like: "What's BMW got? The most advanced high-performance engine in any production car, for a cruising speed of 100 mph." Of course, Volkswagen's famous "Lemon" ad for the Beetle also gets its due here. Separately, each of these ads is fascinating, but taken together they tell the story of a great decade of motoring. Go give them all a read at Car and Driver. All of the Bond cars of 'No Time To Die' (caution for spoilers)

Thu, Sep 30 2021

Note: The following overview of the cars in No Time To Die contains spoilers. Read at your own risk, or come back after seeing the film to make sure you caught everything.   No Time To Die picks up right around where Spectre leaves us. James Bond (Daniel Craig) and Madeleine Swann (Lea Seydoux) are driving along in Bond’s restored and iconic DB5 in Matera, Italy. Things donÂ’t stay all that cheery for long in picturesque Matera, though. As is tradition in Bond films, the first car chase hits us with an explosion of action in what's a super-long opening scene. Fourth-gen Maserati Quattroporte: The baddies in the beginning are driving a Maserati and chasing after Bond in the DB5. Specifically, theyÂ’re in a fourth-gen Quattroporte, which feels right for a chase scene in Italy. Its squared-off looks are mean enough, and its Italian growl is a good background soundtrack to the DB5Â’s inline-six. In addition to the Quattroporte, the chase scene in Matera is home to a couple of the best stunts of the entire movie, including the arch jump done with a Triumph motorcycle seen in trailers — Matera is extremely hilly. Eventually, Bond and Swann find themselves in the DB5 again together, which is where the famous gatling gun scene from the trailer commences, but not before the bulletproof windows and body of the DB5 are thoroughly tested. RIP to the first-gen Range Rover Classics and Jaguar XFs that joined the Maserati in pursuit of Bond (here's a list of other Bond cars over the years). As the DB5 escape scene concludes, we catch a glimpse of what appears to be a Ferrari from the 1970s. However, the view was far enough away that weÂ’ll need a second look to be sure of the exact model. Land Rover Series III: Next time we see Bond, heÂ’s fishing in Jamaica and driving around a blue Land Rover Series III. ItÂ’s yet another of the many Land Rover products featured throughout the film, and unlike most of BondÂ’s Aston Martins, this one doesnÂ’t seem to have any unique features. The other intriguing vehicle out of Jamaica? An old Chevrolet Bel-Air expertly and effectively piloted by Bond newcomer, Ana de Armas. Next up, we get a few shots of the new and still-not-for-sale Aston Martin Valhalla mid-engine supercar (also seen in trailers). BondÂ’s old boss M is in the scene which appears to have been shot in some secret wind tunnel of sorts. Much to our dismay, nobody ends up driving the Valhalla in the film. Could it be a teaser for what the next 007Â’s car is?
