If you're looking at this listing, you probably all ready know what you're looking at here.  This is a very rare, 1962 FJ40, FST Landcruiser - this was a special model year, there were less than 500 of these made as Toyota was transitioning from the early FJ25's to the FJ40's that they made up until 1981-82.  I purchased this vehicle from a friend (a neighbor), with every intention of restoring this to factory original, which is what should be done with one so rare.  Unfortunately, every time I buy a new piece or do something to it that costs money, someone reminds me that our 15 year old son will need a car in 6 months.  So it's time to go.  I will try to identify and describe everything for you in this listing that you would want to know about the vehicle - both the good and the not so good.  I'll include pics I've taken - but if you want additional pics, just reply to me and I'll send exactly what you want.  I'll also list all of the parts and pieces I've accumulated - they will all go with the rig, and some of them were extremely hard to find.

Parts and Extras: the vehicle has a 1F 155 HP Engine in it currently.  This motor was original to models in the 1965 to 1969 range or so, and this engine runs great.  But I am including a period correct 1F 135 HP engine, bell housing, transmission, transfer case, etc. with the sale (see pics).  I have a period correct windshield frame with the proper venting, and I also have the glass that goes in the frame, in perfect shape.  I do not have the rubber gasket - you can get a new one online for cheap.  I have the period correct spare tire carrier in excellent condition, I have period correct steering wheel in great condition, one additional wheel/rim in great condition (painted), I have two period correct rear jumpseats (primed), period correct fan shroud, I have two door straps with new hardware, two door hinges (primed), new toolbox buckles (see pic of underseat toolbox in good condition), side view mirror (needs new glass), rear view mirror mounting bracket,  and original FD knob and cable (4WD shift cable).  Front seats were just recently redone, although frames were painted Red in anticipation of painting the rig with the off-white sand body color from the early 60's.

The good: I've been running this rig and having a ton of fun with it the last  6 months.  I basically bought it, fixed a few things, put new brakes and wheel cylinders on it (the back), and have driven it all over the place.  It runs good, and is fun to drive.  This rig was built with 16 ga. cold rolled steel - so it did not rust like other models have.  Some sheet metal needs work (see below), but the frame and structural components are in excellent shape.  The transmission is original to the rig (note the center drive shaft), and works well.  Body metal is in great shape with exception of inner fender wells and rear corners - both of which I planned to buy from Pacol online and replace when I restored it.  Front floor boards are solid with just surface rust.  The bed is solid with just surface rust, with one spot on the rear sill that needs some new metal (see pic).  The prev owner installed gluedown carpet over the bed and on the wheel well sides - I removed it, but that's what you see in the pics (glue strips & carpet pieces).  The tailgate is as solid as solid gets, and includes original hardware & support chain, etc (no chain covers).  All of the parts are there between both motors/transfer cases/bellhouseing etc. (I think) to put this back to original 3 on the tree shifting, with the exception of the shifting linkage & hardware.  It currently has floor shifter, which works great, but is obviously not original.  So transmission tunnel metal will need to be replaced (I do not have that part).  The side steps are both in good shape, and included in this sale is the pyramid type matting that's needed to re-do the side steps (parts are sitting on the white mat in pictures).

The not so good: the carburetor on this F155 HP motor was retrofitted by Prev Owner just so it could be driven.  It's not original to anything, but at least it works.  The good news - the F135 motor has the original carburetor (with glass inspection piece).  One of the shock mounts to the front axle needs re-welded.  It was loose when I bought it - and since I was only driving it on the roads, and not off-road, it really didn't bother me.  The inner wheel wells both need replaced (Pacol, $375 per well I think).  Both rear corners need replaced (also available at Pacol), and the rear sill needs some metal replacement (otherwise in good shape).  I do NOT have the original ribs (bows) for the Soft Top - but the specs to build new ribs are available online.  I had planned to have them fabricated, then have a new Soft Top built for it - but I never got around to it.  I DO have the brackets installed that hold the soft top frame (they are hard to find).  The front fenders are in great shape, but one dent is seen in the drivers side fender (see pic).  Rear bumpers are ugly white, and one needs some straightening, but otherwise they're good.  I removed most of the wiring harness and used what I needed to make it street legal for driving (brakes lights etc).  The two lower running lights need new bulbs and covers, but they're not hooked up right now anyway.  So new owner will need to buy a new harness or fix what's there - I had intended to buy a new barness from a guy on MUD.com for $600 or so.

There are probably 100 other things I could tell you about the rig.  If you need more information, or want pictures of anything just let me know and be specific.  This will make a great project for someone with time and money (and an understanding spouse).  Thanks for looking.

Recharge Wrap-up: Toyota Prius, V earn IIHS awards, Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV approved for V2H

Tue, Dec 30 2014

The Toyota Prius and Prius V have earned IIHS 2015 Top Safety Pick+ ratings. The Prius V was singled out for its improved performance in the small overlap crash test. Lexus CT models built after September 2014 were also given the distinguished safety rating. In all, eight vehicles from Toyota and Lexus earned Top Safety Pick+ awards, while four more from Toyota and Scion were named Top Safety Picks. Read more in the press release below. The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV can now provide power to the home in Japan. The vehicle-to-home capability requires the CHAdeMO quick charging socket and either Mitsubishi's own Smart V2H system, or the EVPower Station or Tsubaki eLINK system. The Outlander PHEV gained vehicle-to-home approval alongside all-electric vehicles because its electric motor doesn't run when used in for this purpose. The system allows owners to power their homes during outages and emergencies, and the Outlander PHEV can also directly power appliances with its 1500W AC100V power feeder. Read more at Green Car Congress. The Electric Vehicle Institute has published an updated "Plug-In Around the EV World" poster. The poster depicts the various connector types used by EVs. It shows the standard AC connectors for the US and Europe, DC and combination connectors for fast charging and, of course, Tesla's own charging connector for the Model S. It also shows the standard plug types used around the world, which are color coded by country on a world map. See the Electric Vehicle Institute's poster here, or read more at Green Car Reports. Toyota Decks the Halls with IIHS 2015 'Top Safety Pick' Awards Eight Toyota and Lexus Models Earn Institute's Highest Top Safety Pick+ Four Toyota and Scion Vehicles Named Top Safety Picks December 23, 2014 TORRANCE, Calif., Dec. 23, 2014 - On the 12th day of Christmas, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gave to Toyota, 12 awards awarding. In fact, the automaker won more awards than any other automaker, including the most of the Institute's highest honor. In all, eight Toyota and Lexus vehicles earned a Top Safety Pick+ rating. IIHS in particular recognized the Prius V for its significantly improved performance all-around in the small overlap crash test – naming it a Top Safety Pick+. Autoblog Minute: UAW and FCA avoid strike, Clarkson teases new show

Fri, Oct 9 2015

FCA avoids a worker strike, a former Top Gear host teases us with a picture from Amazon's new car show, and Toyota predicts autonomous cars by 2020. Autoblog senior editor Greg Migliore reports on this edition of Autoblog Minute Weekly Recap. Show full video transcript text [00:00:00] FCA avoids a worker strike, a former Top Gear host teases us with a picture from Amazon's new car show, and Toyota predicts autonomous cars by 2020. I'm senior editor Greg Migliore and this is your Autoblog Minute Weekly Recap. A UAW strike of FCA was avoided thanks to a zero-hour tentative agreement reached this week. Worker concerns that were renegotiated in the new [00:00:30] deal include adjustments to the two-tier wage scale, health care costs, and production outsourcing. Now check-in with Autoblog as we update our reports on this evolving story. Shooting began on Amazon Prime's new automotive show starring the former Top Gear crew. That's Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May. Now Clarkson threw out a tweet from day one of filming on location at Algarve Motor Park in Portugal. The picture features the show's [00:01:00] three stars and crew posing with the holy trinity of hyper cars. That's a McLaren P1, a Ferrari LaFerrari, and a Porsche 918 Spyder. This Prime show is being called Gear Knobs though the name is unofficial. Now if a tweet is any indication of what we can expect, who cares what it's called this is gonna be awesome. (Eds Note: Clarkson tweeted Friday that the show will not be called Gear Knobs.) Toyota predicts drivers could be obsolete on highways as early as 2020, with technology dubbed the Toyota Highway Teammate or THT. Toyota is using a modified [00:01:30] Lexus GS to show what this is capable of. THT is already able to create a driverless freeway car that's capable of changing lanes, making passes and taking curves. Plus, it can keep safe distances from other vehicles. Toyota is currently testing this on Tokyo's Shuto Expressway. Those are the highlights from the week that was. Be sure to check out my full recap this Saturday. And I'll have some added insight on the BMW M4 GTS. For Autoblog, I'm Greg Migliore. [00:02:00] Show Logo Autoblog Minute is a short-form video news series reporting on all things automotive. Each segment offers a quick and clear picture of what's happening in the automotive industry from the perspective of Autoblog's expert editorial staff, auto executives, and industry professionals.

Tesla Model S customers in China will receive a "Universal Mobile Charger" with their vehicle. The charger will allow drivers to charge their Tesla anywhere, without having to search out a Supercharger when out in the wild. It allows Model S drivers a bit more freedom and helps alleviate worries about traveling too far from home. It could also help sway potential customers who suffer from range anxiety. The charger will be free to new and existing customers when it becomes available this summer. Read more at Car News China. US News & World Reports' list of Best Cars for Families includes two hybrids. The 2015 Ford Fusion Hybrid was chosen as the Best Hybrid Car for Families, while the 2015 Toyota Highlander Hybrid was picked as the Best Hybrid SUV for Families. The Fusion hybrid was chosen for its roomy, comfortable cabin, as well as the MyKey system's features for new drivers. The Highlander Hybrid offers eight seats - good for carpooling - as well as good mileage and a quality infotainment system. Read more at US News & World Reports or at Hybrid Cars. Audi plans to give its electric vehicles looks that differentiate them from the rest of the lineup. "In early 2018, we will launch a battery-powered sports activity vehicle in the large premium segment with a range of more than 500 kilometers," says Audi's head of development, Ulrich Hackenberg. "It will have a new, very attractive design, which we are developing especially for the E-Tron range and for battery-electric vehicles." According to analysts, part of the reason the Toyota Prius was so successful was because it was easy to distinguish from other Toyota models with conventional powertrains. James Lawler used mostly scraps to build the tiny house – complete with tin roof, chimney, and stained glass window – for just $150 Australian. It took him about a week to finish. Lawler made use of his creation at the Meredith Music Festival so he didn't have to sleep in a tent. He was, however, fined by police for driving the makeshift motorhome.
