Trail proven!  Including Rubicon, Moab, Urshim/Dusey.   Never been laid over or rolled.  Have owned this beauty for 14 years and it has taken us anywhere we have wanted to go.  There are too many upgrades to list, the latest of which is a V8/automatic conversion.  Small block 350 (newly rebuilt, only 134 miles on this engine), Holley Truck Avenger carb, shorty chrome headers,  350 trans with shift kit with new torque converter and trans cooler, B&M shifter.  Power steering with PSC pump with (AGR), Rock Ram with (AGR) steering box.  Four wheel disk brakes, front and rear spring-overs, 4.88 gears with air lockers front and rear.  Bilstein 5125 front and rear shocks.  Longfield axles in front (have old ones as spares).  Dual batteries, Red Top Optima.  Battery isolator with in-dash switch.  K&N air filter with chrome top and bottom.  MSD offroad ignition controls.  High output alternator.  York  air compressor with Kilby air manifold to hook up ARB’s front and rear.  Additional lines and air tank mounted in back for running power tools.  12000 lb Badlands winch (brand new).  Push Bar.  Custom hitch rack.  Additional trans temp, water temp, oil pressure gauges.  Full family roll cage.  Half top, 2 sets of doors.  Floor is sound insulated and has wall to wall marine carpeting.

Extra parts and goodies include Fairey overdrive unit, back seat heater which worked perfectly but was just removed for added room, additional 22 gallon gas tank which mount under body removed when springovers were done and has not been put back on yet as exhaust needs to be rerouted.  Extra incomplete transfer case used for parts, original front axles.   Two sets of tires:  33 Mickey Thompson Baja Claws on chrome spoke rims, set of 4.  BF Goodrich all terrain on white spoke rims, set of 4.

Back injury forces sale.  All reasonable offers will be considered.

Disclosure note:  The vehicle is registered as a 1969 because that is the year of the original vehicle and Frame.   I listed it as a 1978 because that is the year of the body that is now on the frame and for all intents, purposes and looks it is a '78.  The vehicle has been continuously registered and insured for the last 14 years.  Clear title and up to date registration.

J.D. Power study sees new car dependability problems increase for first time since 1998

Wed, 12 Feb 2014

For the first time since 1998, J.D. Power and Associates says its data shows that the average number of problems per 100 cars has increased. The finding is the result of the firm's much-touted annual Vehicle Dependability Study, which charts incidents of problems in new vehicle purchases over three years from 41,000 respondents.
Looking at first-owner cars from the 2011 model year, the study found an average of 133 problems per 100 cars (PP100, for short), up 6 percent from 126 PP100 in last year's study, which covered 2010 model-year vehicles. Disturbingly, the bulk of the increase is being attributed to engine and transmission problems, with a 6 PP100 boost.
Interestingly, JDP notes that "the decline in quality is particularly acute for vehicles with four-cylinder engines, where problem levels increase by nearly 10 PP100." Its findings also noticed that large diesel engines also tended to be more problematic than most five- and six-cylinder engines.

Toyota Aygo, Citro?n C1 to join Peugeot 108 in Geneva

Thu, 20 Feb 2014

Just the other day, Peugeot took the wraps off the new 108. But its new city car, like the 107 it replaces, doesn't stand on its own. The 107 was a sister vehicle to not only the Citroën C1 but also the Toyota Aygo. So it should come as little surprise that, while Peugeot was the first to release photos and details on its version, Citroën and Toyota will also be on hand with their own versions when the veils lift on all three at the Geneva Motor Show.
We're expecting the new trio of budget-oriented hatchbacks to bear the fruits of individual efforts to distinguish themselves one from another more than their predecessors, which essentially looked the same save for different badges. But from the teaser image above, we'd venture that the Toyota version will be a further departure from the 108 than the C1 will be.
One way or another we'll have to wait and see, but for now you can view Toyota's teaser clip below, along with the press releases confirming the debut of both in Geneva next month.

Toyota highlights JDM Mark X with special Yellow Label edition

Fri, 05 Sep 2014

Never heard of the Toyota Mark X? That's because the Japanese automaker only sells it in its home market (and in China as the Reiz). It's a rear-drive (or all-wheel-drive) sports sedan about the size of a Lexus IS, whose existence is probably why Toyota will never bring the Mark X to North America. The current model has been on the market since 2009, but Toyota is rolling out a series of updates - including the new Yellow Label model pictured here.
Available on the 250G, 250G Four and 250G S trim levels, the Yellow Label gets a special shade of Awaken Yellow paint (though it can be had in black, white or silver as well), with an interior decked out in either yellow or black. It also gets piano lacquer trim, yellow stitching, pink gold accents, special tread plates and other interior equipment upgrades, as well as a unique set of alloys. All of which makes the Toyota Mark X Yellow Label perfect for recreating scenes from Kill Bill without the need to squeeze into yellow leathers. (In fact we wouldn't be surprised to see Toyota doing just that for a promo clip.)
Power comes from a 2.5-liter V6 (and not the larger 3.5 available on the 350S model) channeled through a six-speed automatic to either the rear wheels or all four. Pricing ranges between 2.8 and 3.1 million yen (~$26-30k), representing a premium of about 106k yen ($1k) over non-yellow models. Toyota operates four distinct dealer networks in Japan, and the Mark X is sold through Toyopet stores.
