2003 Toyota Corolla S Sedan 4-door 1.8l on 2040-cars
Aurora, Illinois, United States
On
behalf of my friend I am auctioning his 2003 Toyota Corolla S which runs but
cannot be driven due to a broken left front spring. The car has 166,068 miles. He
is the 2nd owner. It is silver with black cloth interior. Some of
the equipment on this Corolla includes: automatic transmission; power
locks/windows/mirrors; keyless entry; cruise control; and AM/FM CD player. The
car has a clean and clear Illinois title. Please read below for a detailed
description of this Corolla.
MECHANICAL The car
starts right away and runs strong with smooth shifts. There are no leaks or unusual
noises but the engine compartment is dirty. My friend has kept up with all
regular maintenance and just put new tires on in November, 2013. The suspension,
however, needs work. The left front spring broke and it appears it will also need
front struts and inner/outer tie rods. There is also a loud popping noise when
turning the steering wheel. No formal inspections have been done so this is
just an assumption of what is needed with the suspension.
EXTERIOR As
would be expected from an 11 year old car the exterior is showing signs of age.
There are dings, scratches, faded paint, and rust throughout. There is no major
body damage. As far as my friend knows the only accident the car was involved
in was a low speed parking lot fender bender that required paint work to the
left front fender.
INTERIOR The
interior just needs a good cleaning as we are coming out of a long winter here
in the Chicago area. There are no signs of unusual wear to the interior of the
car or unusual odors. Also it’s important to note that my friend is not a
smoker and has no pets.
TERMS
OF SALE
The car
is under a reserve auction and the final reserve amount will not be disclosed.
The car is listed for sale locally so I reserve the right to end the auction early.
The car can be inspected in Aurora, IL on week nights with advance notice but
because of the broken left front spring I cannot let you take the car on a test
drive for liability reasons. You are not bidding on a cream puff – this is an
11 year old car that has been driven daily and needs suspension work so please
keep that in mind when bidding. That
being said this car is being sold as is and where is. There are no guarantees,
warranties, or refunds. If you buy this car you must pay a $1000 deposit within
48 hours and the full balance within a week. You must also arrange transportation
– again the car is not safe to drive. If you are paying by cashier’s check the
vehicle will not be released until funds are confirmed. Please only bid if you
are serious about buying this car. I will answer any questions you have so
please feel free to ask them before bidding! |

Toyota, Lexus will offer low-cost automated braking system
Mon, Mar 30 2015First, a technology gets better, then it gets a lot better, then it gets less expensive, then it gets a lot less expensive. Advanced driver safety and convenience systems are about to make that last step thanks to Toyota. Centered around a pre-collision braking system, there will be three suites of driver aids known as Toyota Safety Sense C (TSS C) for compact cars, Toyota Safety Sense P (TSS P) for midsized and premium cars, and Lexus Safety System+ (LSS+) for the luxury brand. TSS C pairs a camera with laser radar to provide a pre-collision system that prompts the driver to brake if it detects an impending accident, and can supply additional braking force and automatically brake between seven and fifty miles per hour. There are also Lane Departure Alert and Automatic High Beam. TSS P pairs a camera with more precise millimeter-wave radar. Starting with the three functions in TSS C, it adds pedestrian pre-collision capability and adaptive cruise control. This one will be available first, coming on the new RAV4 Hybrid and Avalon. TSS - either C or P - will expand to three more vehicles by the end of the year. The wallop is in the price: TSS C will be a $300 option, TSS P will cost $500. Compare the Ford Fusion SE, for instance - it's Driver Assistance Package comes with Lane Departure Warning, Automatic High Beams, it has Lane Keep Assist, Blind Spot and Cross Traffic Detection that neither TSS has, but doesn't have any autonomous braking feature. It costs $1,200, but requires you to add the Technology and Luxury Packages for a total price of $3,165. If you want Autonomous Cruise Control, that's another $995, for $4,160 in total. Instead of $300 or $500 on the Toyota. Lexus' LSS+ will come first on the new RX then spread to four more models by the end of this year, and cost between $500 and $635 to add as an option. It also uses a camera and millimeter-wave radar for its vehicle and pedestrian pre-collision system, lane departure warning and lane keep assist, automatic high beam, and auto cruise control. The similar package on a BMW X5, with no pedestrian component, is $1,200. Toyota says both safety suites will eventually be on "nearly all" of it products and all trim levels by the end of 2017.
Will Toyota lose up to 70% of its workforce in TX relocation?
Mon, 17 Nov 2014Toyota's decision to move its US headquarters from its longtime home in Torrance, CA, to Plano, TX, was one of the biggest stories in the automotive industry this spring. With several months since the announcement, more details about the plan have leaked out. It seems that pulling up stakes could mean an even larger shakeup in the Toyota workforce than first thought.
According to Automotive News, Toyota intends to hang onto around 50 percent of its workforce in the move to the Lone Star State. However, even that figure might be optimistic. According to an unnamed insider speaking to AN, there is a fear the actual number could be closer to 30 percent. For comparison, Nissan retained about 42 percent of its workers in its move from California to Tennessee.
The actual percentage making the move is a mystery because Toyota is still rewriting its job descriptions under a single set of guidelines. The changes affect benefits, bonuses and the reporting structure, according to Automotive News, and employees' reactions could play a big role in who decides to go. According to an unnamed worker speaking to AN, the wait is hurting morale. Some people are even applying at the nearby Honda headquarters.
Toyota to kill Scion brand [w/video]
Wed, Feb 3 2016Toyota Motor Co. said Wednesday it will kill its youth-oriented Scion brand, ending a 13-year experiment that attracted new customers but ultimately drained resources from the parent company. The FR-S sports car, iA sedan, and iM five-door hatchback will be re-badged as Toyotas starting in August for the 2017 model year, and the tC coupe will end production then. The C-HR displayed at the Los Angeles Auto Show will become a Toyota vehicle when it launches. Scion's 22 dedicated team members will be given opportunities to join Toyota. Toyota says it made the decision in response to customers' needs, noting it finds younger buyers want practicality in addition to the individualistic styling and features that Scion offered. Meanwhile, Toyota's own vehicles have gotten sportier, which the company says appeals to younger buyers. Scion claimed some successes, pointing to its average customer age of 36 years old, with 70 percent of its buyers new to Toyota. Scion sold more than a million vehicles since it launched. Its best year was 2006, when it sold 173,034 vehicles. Sales declined steadily in 2007-08 and then crashed in 2009 during the recession to 57,961 units, before bottoming out in 2010 with only 45,678 sales. "This isn't a step backward for Scion; it's a leap forward for Toyota. Scion has allowed us to fast track ideas that would have been challenging to test through the Toyota network," said Jim Lentz, founding vice president of Scion and now CEO, Toyota Motor North America. "I was there when we established Scion and our goal was to make Toyota and our dealers stronger by learning how to better attract and engage young customers. I'm very proud because that's exactly what we have accomplished." While Scion never recovered from its drastic sales decline, it served as a test bed for marketing and dealer tactics that helped its parent company. Scion tried out no-haggle pricing, a streamlined option plan (some cars had only two choices: color and transmission) and a pre-paid maintenance plan. "We appreciate our 1,004 Scion dealers and the support they've given the brand," said Bob Carter, Toyota senior vice president of automotive operations. "We believe our dealers have gained valuable insights and have received a strong return on their investment.
