THESE LIFTBACKS ARE VERY HARD TO FIND THIS CLEAN AND IN THIS OPERABLE FACTORY CONDITION . AS STATED I STILL DRIVE IT DAILY AND THE MILES WILL CONTINUE TO GO UP. THE PAINT JOB IS FADED AS YOU CAN SEE IN CERTAIN AREAS, BUT WITH A LITTLE TLC / SOME NEW PAINT WILL MAKE THIS CAR VERY NICE . UNDER HOOD ENGINE BAY PAINT STILL SHINES JUST DUSTY DIRTY. ALSO I WANTED TO SAY THIS CAR IS NOT ORIGINALLY FROM NEBRASKA , JUST BY LOOKING AT THE ALMOST RUST FREE BODY. I HAVE A WASHINGTON CLEAR TITLE IN HAND READY TO TRANSFER TO NEW OWNER. IN MY OPINON ITS A VERY SOLID CAR / CHASSIS / BODY & FLOORS . MABE 1-3% RUST IF ANY, EVERYONE PLEASE CONSIDER & KEEP IN MIND MOST BATTERY BOXES/TRAYS OR EVEN FRAME AREA RADIATOR SUPPORT GETS RUSTED REAL BAD FROM BATTERY ACID AND BATTERY TRAY CANNOT BE REMOVED DUE TO BOLTS ATE UP BY ACID. NOT THIS TOYOTA AS SEEN IN PIC BATTERY TRAY REMOVED WITH EASE TO SHOW A RUST FREE SOLID FRAME UNDERNEATH BATTERY SECTION AREA OF CAR, MEANING BOLTS WILL REMOVE WITH EASE THROUGH OUT ENTIRE CAR FOR EASY MAINTENANCE THROUGH OUT THE YEARS OF OWNERSHIP. Toyota offered $146.5 million to build Lexus ES in Kentucky
Thu, 18 Apr 2013Toyota posted a media advisory yesterday saying that Akio Toyoda, president of Toyota, and Jim Lentz, CEO of Toyota North America, would be making a production announcement tomorrow in New York City, and Automotive News reports that the automaker will be announcing a plan to domestically produce the Lexus ES. According to the report, numerous plants are competing to build the ES in North America, and the State of Kentucky has offered the automaker up to $146.5 million to build the luxury sedan at the Georgetown, KY assembly plant.
If Georgetown gets the ES, which has been built in Japan since its debut in 1989, it would be built alongside the Toyota Camry, which is somewhat ironic since in our review of the 2013 Lexus ES350, we wrote that this ES finally says "goodbye to its Camry roots." In order to get the whole amount offered, the article states that Toyota would have to invest $531.2 million and hire 570 full-time workers at the plant, which doesn't sound all that unreasonable since the plant would require an additional 50,000 units of annual production, not to mention the fact that the Georgetown facility is already at its capacity for building the Camry.
NHTSA investigating 561k Toyota Prius hybrids for possible steering shaft defect
Mon, 25 Feb 2013The Detroit News is reporting that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration will investigate some 561,000 Toyota Prius models for potentially defective steering shafts. The affected hybrid models are from the 2004-2009 model years. The story indicates that NHTSA is weighing whether or not to grant a defect petition, which claims that Toyota incorrectly assembled the hatchback's steering linkage.
As of this writing, there is no recall. However, a recall based on the Prius steering shaft would be the third related to steering issues for the model since 2006. Seven years ago, Toyota recalled 170K Prius models for potential cracking of the intermediate shafts, and in November of 2012, the automaker recalled 670K units to replace the steering shaft extension assembly.
We'll be monitoring NHTSA's signals to see if this investigation turns into a full-fledged recall. For now, stay tuned.
Subprime financing on the rise in new car sales, leasing too
Fri, 07 Dec 2012We all remember the financial crisis that began several years back. At its core was a splurge of subprime lending for housing loans. The housing bubble burst, triggering a collapse of the mortgage-backed securities market. Apparently, those types of loans still exist in the automotive industry, and the market share for these types of "nonprime, subprime, and deep subprime," loans has grown 13.6 percent compared to the third quarter a year ago.
According to an Automotive News report, high-risk lending expanded to 24.8 percent of total loans in Q3, up from 21.9 percent for this time last year. As this level increased, average credit scores of borrowers dropped to 755, down from 763 a year ago. In that time, the average financing amount increased $90 per vehicle, to $25,963.
At 818, Volvo maintains the highest per-owner credit score, while Mitsubishi has the lowest, at 694. The highest rate of borrowers was at Toyota, with 14 percent of the market, followed by Ford with 13.1 percent and Chevrolet at 11.1.
