1991 Toyota Celica Gt Convertible 2-door 2.2l on 2040-cars
Silvis, Illinois, United States
1991 Toyota Celica GT Convertible!! This rare car still only has 97,000 certified actual miles. We purchased this car from the original owner in 2005 and has been a joy to drive. The automatic transmission shifts properly as it should. The brakes and fluids are all good and serviced regularly. The car has always been in a garage. It goes down the road straight and has no shakes. Best of all this car maintains ALL its original paint and body panels. No accidents.!! The motor and transmission are all number matching!!
You could buy the car now and enjoy next Spring as is, or turn into a show car with very little effort. Items that need to be addressed: The knob on the dash that turns on the Air Conditioning unit is cracked but the switch works fine. (These are available for $3). The plastic window on the convertible top has a couple cracks (but no holes) and these are also still available! This is a common issue with convertibles. The hold piston on the trunk lid is bad and needs to replaced. The Air Conditioning works but needs to be recharged. The pump and compressor are perfect. (We were planning on converting from R-11 to Puron but never did. (We like the top down!!!)The trunk opens and closes as it should, it just wont stay up as it should. These are still available. The trunk area has one "outer" dent the size of a dime from the corner of the trunk lid. The car has NO RUST issues what-so-ever. The top is power and works perfectly.
The tires and fluids are all good and serviced regularly. This car has always stayed in a garage and is owned and driven by fussy , non smoking adults. Buyer will pay all shipping but I will assist on my end anyway I can. Car must be picked up within seven days of the end of the auction. Car is for sale locally so I reserve the right to end the auction early. This is an auction to purchase the car. If you are the winning bidder it does not give you right to then inspect the car and decide if you want it. Inspections welcome until auct2on ends. Happy Bidding! |

Scion pondering move upmarket?
Mon, 01 Apr 2013Scion is simultaneously celebrating its ten-year anniversary with the 10 Series models and trying to figure out what to do with itself over the next ten years. Once a go-to consideration for young, first-time buyers who wanted something cool and different, in 2013 it has a model everyone is still talking about in the FR-S, a model few are still talking about in the iQ, and three models in between in the tC, xB and xD that make everyone wonder, "What happened?"
Automotive News spoke to Toyota's North American CEO, Jim Lentz - he was the VP in charge of Scion when it launched - about the options, and Lentz said one of them could be a move upmarket to challenge the established luxury brands that are moving downmarket. "There's going to be a big need in the $25,000 range for a fun-to-drive, nice-looking, value-oriented product," he said, and the FR-S, which starts at $25,255, could provide the platform for Scion to climb up a notch or two in price and perception. An idea like this could conceivably work in tandem with a proposal to move entry-level Scion products over to the Toyota brand - but remember, this is all just ideas on a whiteboard at the moment.
As opposed to an "entry-luxury fighter," the brand could swing back to the other option that was considered when it was formed, directly challenging the Korean makes that have usurped its cachet with first-time buyers. Lentz said Scion could go either way, and the tone of the piece seems to indicate that the final direction is still a ways away from being resolved.
PSA: Toyota wants to save your life, needs an hour of your time
Thu, Nov 9 2017Toyota wrote Autoblog to ask if we could spread the word about the Takata airbag inflator recall. Defective inflators remain installed in tens of millions of cars made by 19 carmakers, with manufacture dates that go back to the year 2000. Each inflator compounds the risk of serious injury or death in an airbag-activating crash. With a new ad campaign called "in about an hour," Toyota wants to make sure that unaware owners, or overly busy owners, know they can get their Toyota, Lexus, and Scion vehicles repaired free of charge in about the time it takes to do a load of laundry. The campaign focuses on cities in three so-called Zone A states where hot, humid climates worsen the threat of the ruptured inflators: Los Angeles, Dallas, and Miami. However, every owner everywhere who cares about his life, or his child's life, should at least check to see if his car is affected. All it takes is a quick VIN entry at the dedicated recall site at Toyota.com/Recall. The results will let you know if your car is affected and, if so, locate a local dealer for the free fix. The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration said the Takata affair has become "the largest and most complex safety recall in U.S. history." The numbers so far suggest the recall covers more than 42 million vehicles and more than 60 million airbags. Autoweek keeps an updated list of Takata information, including every make and model on the recall list. Consumer Reports published a list of frequently asked questions covering issues directly related and tangential to the recall. The 19 automakers maintain pages dedicated to the issue; Fiat Chrysler lists every relevant model and how it prioritizes repairs by Zone, Honda says it offers a free rental car while owner cars are repaired, Daimler vans says its fix only takes about an hour. And of course NHTSA serves all owners with its own VIN lookup site. We encourage you to check your vehicle — the life you save could be your own. Related Video:
Hurricane Sandy cost automakers 15,000 vehicles, may have ruined up to 200k
Wed, 07 Nov 2012Hurricane Sandy was the largest Atlantic storm in US history, and its total economic impact is just now coming into view. According to Automotive News, Toyota, Chrysler, Nissan and Honda are set to scrap around 15,000 new vehicles ruined by the storm. Nissan alone accounts for about 40 percent of those, with 6,000 Nissan and Infiniti models deeded "un-saleable" due to damage. The company saw 56 dealerships shuttered due to the storm, but 51 of those have since reopened.
Toyota, meanwhile, had some 4,000 vehicles at its Newark port facility, and of those, 3,000 may be scrapped. An additional 825 were dealer inventory when they were ruined. Honda and Acura dealers are reportedly sending 3,440 vehicles to the salvage yard. By comparison, Chrysler weathered the storm fairly well with 825 units destroyed, while Hyundai suffered only 400 lost units and Kia scrapped around 200.
As you may recall, Fisker also suffered some losses, and Automotive News reports the manufacturer saw 320 Karma models damaged beyond repair. Ford and General Motors have yet to come up with estimates, and no automaker has commented on the full cost of replacing the vehicles.
